Did you ever hear the tragedy of the Evolution of the Roman Legions: Part 1? I thought not. It’s not a story the Invicta would tell you. Evolution of the Roman Legions: Part 1 was the 1st part in a legendary series. He had such a knowledge of the Roman Kingdom that he could even keep part 2 from being uploaded. The legend states that there are some that are still waiting, hoping for part 2.
I have been waiting, lonely and sad, if invicta completes this task to the standard he upholds i believe this would be the most epic shit that has ever hit the fan
My goal for this series is to follow the entire history of the Roman legions from the founding of the city to the fall of the empire in roughly 200 year increments. Let me begin by saying that this is an ambitious project. As far as I am aware, this has never been done in video format. The few videos which have attempted it are riddled with errors and do not do justice to the subject matter. It is my intention to go into great depth with this series. As such, it will be important for me to research and digest the material before sharing it with you all. The format will be similar for every episode with content being broken down into: Background / The Army / The Leadership/ The Soldier / Logistics / Warfare / Conclusion. In this way, it will be easier to trace changes in each of these categories over time. You will notice that in this episode we were not able to flesh out many of these due to a lack of evidence. Over time the sources become more reliable and these videos will get longer and longer. The first episode for instance has an 8 page script and went on for 20 minutes. The script for the second episode is already at 16 pages so I imagine it will run nearly 40 minutes long. This is all even before we get to the polybian or imperial legions for which we have much more information... What this means is that this project may rapidly become overwhelming. Despite this I plan to forge ahead and hope that I can count on your support in doing so.
+THFE Productions I'll always support your works! Already shared this video on XD The longer the documentary, the longer the enjoyment. I have nothing against that :D
+Ayachuco1998 thanks for sharing! I will eventually get to that period of Roman history and am even considering doing a separate series just on army tactics
I really love the amount of detail you've put into this. I've always wanted someone to make a detailed documentary about the evolution of the Roman army. It's amazing work.

I mean, who else would think to explain how fast food was done in ancient Rome? And I understand that you got a whole lot going on and that these things take time to make. But man, it's been so long. I don't even know how I'll feel if a Part 2 comes out, only that if it does, I'll be able to die a happy man. Just give us a sign.
please please please make sure that you continue this series! it is fantastic! far more informative and interesting than most documentaries from actual TV channels.
Ha, I should have read the comments before I spent the last 20 minutes looking for part II!!! You have a masterpiece on your hands here....get to work!!!!
Sir, let me just say that I truly admire your passion in this field of study. This is beautiful work. Such a magnificent masterpiece could only be borne out of true love for history and the never-ending quest for knowledge. That you've spent countless hours of research, and much effort in organizing, creating and editing this video, bespeaks of your dedication. I have nothing but deep and profound respect for you.
Every now and then, you come across a video that makes you realize that TH-cam can be something really constructive. That it can be used for teaching and learning and not just twerking. This production is a great example of what a great TH-cam is: self-produced video at its finest. I wish I could give this more than a mere "thumbs up". Hail THFE Productions!

+SkillaWillits Pretty sure that its already been set that it was 300 Spartans but like 4000 other Greeks. Holding a pass against hundreds of thousands of Persians.

still hopping u will continue this series your documentaries are legendary and this series can give people a clear and accurate perception on the roman armies evolution from warriors to professional soldiers.
This was a great, general overview of early Roman military and political organization. My only serious criticism: You need to annunciate. You frequently slurred your pronunciation of some words, which made it a little harder to understand you. Though other than that, I thought it was wonderful. I loved the production values and that it felt well composed in showcasing what you were going for. It was on point, and I hope to see another video soon.
+MongolianFoodHoarder thanks for the feedback! I try and redo my narration if I trip up in a big way but I guess it couldnt hurt to redo things even for small mistakes like those you pointed out

+Ignacio Arrieta So there really wasn't much of an 'evolution'. There was a bit of an awkward period where you had both. But once they saw how cheap it was to just mass produce peasants with muskets noone went back.
+Victor Lobo Well basically there was a massive regression in Western European technology and warfare. With the Franks, Visigoths, Ostrogoths, and vandals running rampart over the old Western Empire. For about 800 years Europeans fought like barbarians. Charging at each other with very few tactics or strategy to speak of. You could say the feudal knight was the embodiment of this kind of warfare. Sometimes you saw something of a professional army (like longbowmen) but that was the exception to the rule. I would suggest looking up Dan Carlin's 'Thor's Angels' podcast if you wanted to learn more.
man, if you did this seven years ago, I would've used this series for my general assessment project in highschool (which had as study: the political evolution of rome)
