I have been so sick of ego maniac TH-camrs all about the money and views. Then there is you and it just makes me smile watching your genuine joy and humility in fishing. Your a breathe of fresh air young man and make TH-cam a better place! Blessings and prosperity to you! Craig in Chicago
Watching you land good fish always sparks joy! Beautiful spotted patterns on the fish at 6:40. And thank you for the famous butter-avocado recipe in your other videos, tried it at home and it was sooo good! 😋
Day 2? Man i love your trout fishing videos. i'm about the same level you are at fly fishing. it's very inspiring for me to see your videos... makes me take my rod and travel to the mountains. i hope you post more often these kind of videos
Just watched this and it brought back my first tie and catch fly fishing. In ‘88 (I was 14) Dad took me to Canada, Wells Grey Prov Park/Myrtle Lake. Watched the insect hatch for a day while fishing spinners and found the brown caddis was the closest to the hatch. That evening I tied three of them while in camp, next to the lake. My Dad, his best friend and I used them the next morning and so many fish hit the flies they fell apart! Probably had a lot to do with my lack of skill tying flies but there is nothing like watching the hatch, imitating nature and catching them. Once you experience that, you are hooked for life! Let’s go!!!
New subscriber...I came across your channel and enjoyed your videos..I don't fish but love watching you catch them and cook.. although I don't eat seafood I still enjoy your videos..
These fish are very beautiful, it is very different from the ones I fish here in *Brazil.* This place is too good to fish Congratulations. Hugs and good fishing.👍🎣🐟🐠
“I don’t know exactly what to throw.” Brother, head a little bit up stream, turn over a couple of rocks and match what you find attached to the rocks. If that don’t work study the bugs that are floating down the river or flying in the air around you. BTW Elk Hair Caddis and midges are my go to and most productive flies ever. Also take a look at some Czech nymphing videos. Most productive and easiest way to fly fish any stream in my opinion. Love your videos Brother, thank you. Peace.
I live in Colorado, and my friends and I go shore and canoe fishing often. I've adopted your recipe of butter, salt and pepper sprinkled on the fish, and avocado on the side (sometimes with steamed rice). Sooooo good!!!!
It has been a while since I've felt that sense of achievement and satisfaction catching such an amazing fish on hand tied and hand rigged setup. You took me right there on the riverbank with you. Thank you. Great video. Your artificial deceived a wiley old trout. Great watercraft reading the swim. We call the bonker the 'priest', used to administer the last rights. You can get one with a spoon to inspect the contents of the stomach also. Great tool for using with trout.
Wow ! That was a epic catch of that cut throat trout ! Good thing that you met your new friend Andy at the PO who guided you to this small stream ! That sling shot casting was awesome too ! Your a amazing and exciting fisherman ! Thanks again Matt !
if it makes you feel better at all, i’m a fellow “fumbler,” Matts. you respond WAY better than i do when i drop food. it usually goes flying when i drop it
That dead wood is birch, it wouldn't generate much heat in a stove but for a campfire it's quite adequate. By the way it looks and considering local climate conditions I'd say it's been dead for no more than 2 or 3 years. It burns well and clean (with little smoke) and the remaining ash will fertilize local saplings, so you've made a good choice.
Inspirational as heck man! I was never raised around nature & only camped at national parks such as Sequoia National Park, but these types of videos have got me out and exploring forest trails, learning to fish, and be one with nature!! I spent the whole weekend in the Sierras looking for a good place to fish and after years of trying I finally caught one this weekend!!! Thank you got the inspiration my man
I love you videos and I wish I could fish that much but I just turned 16 and I might get my drivers license this year so win i do I’m going to try to go fishing a lot more thanks for making these videos they help a lot thanks
Some friendly advice: when swinging an axe if you have one hand at the top of the axe and slide that hand down as you swing it will make for a much more powerful swing
So happy you're back! I haven't watched it yet but I was starting to worry lol. I kept checking in to see the new one. Hope all is well, love your channel. Taught me a lot and inspired me to start my own. Props to you sir.
That’s gotta be one of my favorite video of you fighting that fish. Love the mosquito display on your face to ward off other mosquitoes and the dirt covered fish. Yum. Keep up the great vids 👍
Matts....... as a self proclaimed avid outdoorsman (but shitty fisherman) I advise you to skip the axe and get a SILKY SAW..... like a 240mm... WAY lighter.....WAY safer....WAY faster to cut wood..... Cheers bro!!!
Axes are good if you want something that doubles for a self defense tool and for splitting wood, but for downing trees and dividing them up you wanna go with a saw.
What beautiful mountains. Reminds me of Colorado. Used to go fishing at Bear Lake in the Rockies and could catch the most delicious rainbow trout ive ever had. Your videos make me think of the good ol days
In a small stream like that, here in northern california, this time of year, don't bother running an indicator. Put a dry fly (stimulator/hopper/catskill style dry) on instead. Lots of fish are happily feeding on the surface
When I started I took every fly I could find with me. Now I have Adams in 14-16, Caddis in 14-18, and green mosquitoes in 16-22. I never went to Mammoth before late spring but in the San Gabriels dries 365 days a year.
you have your black bears here n there, but more big cats than bears. i have had cougars walk up to me a hand full of times while fishing out here, or see one as ur driving to spots. but bears not so much.
I actually did. I guess it was a little too slippery after the oil? My clumsy ass had the opportunity to do a few catch drop and cooks, but being out there makes it taste amazing no matter how much dirt.
I know you've heard this before, but you are like the Bob Ross of fishing. I look forward to growing old with you and still watching your videos! Seriously you provide the calm in my life that I need and love, and I only hope to provide, people like me, the same one day. Love you bro!
I got to admit that i have never been as happy watching someone catch fish than when i watch ur vids. I geniunely feel as excited when u catch fish as if i am catching those bad boys myself (which i dont, cause im lazy af). Have been loving ur channel for years never commented. Cheers mate!

Eddie Takei he had an avocado in the thumbnail. I’m sure he munched on it off camera!
*laughs in ketosis
There was an avocado in shot when he was cutting the onions, I'm sure he chowed down on it.
You can see the avocado when he cuts the onion
You are a boss. That is a gorgeous healthy fish. Your channel always gets me hyped to go fishing.
