I used to say Charles is one of the best bass players I've ever seen, but after watching several of his videos over the past couple of years I've come to realize I was wrong. He isn't one of the best I've seen. He's literally the best bass player I've ever seen. I mean, I've seen some pretty talented players do some truly amazing things never thought possible on a bass guitar, but Charles has elevated even that to a whole other level. You could put Charles Berthoud on stage with nothing more than his bass guitar and a drummer to accompany him, and he could literally carry a two hour concert with no other instruments, and still have people walking out shaking their heads in astonishment. And no, while I'm certainly old enough, I'm not his father. But whomever is, wow, that man sure must be proud.
Agree with @pumpkinhead he is insanely good on this instrument. Great heart of Dave504 who found out about him and gave him all the support he could. The guy deserved it for sure. He is not only a great bass player (Victor Wooten level), he is an outstanding arrangers and producer.
@@pumpkinheadghoul Charles is a monster bassplayer indeed, and certainly one of the very best (!) at the moment. And indeed it is not only his technical skill on the bass, but his complete musicianship that make him so great. There are (and have been) others though who are also monsters if in a very different manner. The foremost that I am thinking of is the one and only Jaco Pastorius (for me still the nr.1. of all times). Although Charles Berthoud comes quite close...
Yes, he has a great authentic personality. A thing that most popular TH-camrs don't have at all. I really would like to see one of his practice sessions.
I love how he started of saying, yea so he's like, some TH-cam musician, I guess! While that's true. To my knowledge, and opinion, Charles is an incredibly well studied musician. Who is quite possibly one of the best bass players in the world. This video was fun to watch.
Thank you for checking Charles out. I KNEW you would dig it. I follow you because you react the same way I do to a good bit of my own favorite new things. I have played bass and guitar since 81 but lost my fretting index finger about 14-15 years ago. I still can go pretty well on my bass, and it made it new and challenging again. I'll soon be making content hopefully. Keep up the fun work brother!
Barbie Girl is one of the few pop songs that I like at all. And I love it. If you're going to go pop go all the way. The metal head at work got mad when I put it on in between Disturbed and Slipknot.
I knew a metalhead in high school who loved aqua. Personally I absolutely love aqua..... And tech death.... And toy box....and some old school powerviolence..... And UK hardcore. @@jeremypreston5009 Aqua is extreme pop. I don't like most pop because it's boring. It has to be extreme pop. Japanese metal mixes extreme pop with metal and it's awesome. @@protojager I really like Yoasobi now. Their new song Idol is awesome. It's got like 130 million views in 6 weeks. It's the OP for Oshi no Ko anime which is also awesome.
Charles says it is pronounced as Bear-two. Yeah, this very rendition made me buy the bass and off I go, a granny w/o any musical background... Such is the power of Bass🚀
For what it's worth having at last passable piano skills is quite common in formally educated musicians (and Berthoud went to Berklee): it's used for analysis (chords, music theory), it's super useful for composition, and in a school setting being able to accompany is a good way to get mates.
To answer the question posed by the title of this video: Quite possibly, yes. And he's certainly my favorite! 🤘😄 Also, you should definitely check out more of his stuff. In particular, he has an awesome video where he plays bass using a violin bow, and it sounds GODLY.
Watching this video, it almost seems as though you don't know what you just Witnessed. There are no other bassists like him. But he doesn't act like it. The amount of Education, and skill enhancement that he has with this instrument and many others is mind-blowing. He is quite literally a bass God. And I say check out every other video by him.
He is without a doubt one of the best bass players you have seen on you tube no doubt and I found this girl.... Mohini Dey she is like Charles in a lots of ways playing wise so the bass community is in great hands!!!
I'll not say a single negative word about your future wedding song (if you're not married)...lol. I watch Charles' channel from time to time and he's really ridiculous man. Another one is Dave504...or Davie504. Another slap-happy crazy talented bassist. They both make the same style of video though I do get more Borat from Davie. Anywho, enjoyed the reaction.
I am indeed already married! My now wife walked down the aisle to a Bring Me The Horizon song and we exited the ceremony to the sounds of A Day To Remember. True story.
In my opinion, he's in the top 10 known bassists. That being said, he falls into categories like Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Malmsteen, etc., or other incredibly talented TH-cam guitarists - I can be and am amazed at their talent, but it's so rich, I can't listen to a lot of it. Where Charles needs to be tested is in a band setting and where their collective content goes when tested on the ears of the masses. No doubt anything he does will be greatly appreciated by a few, as he and his phenomenal talent already is, but it's a niche talent. He needs to gather the greatest of TH-cam musical talent, collab, make songs, put together an album and let it rip.
here's the thing - Glenn actually loves bass and bassists, that's why he's mad when he comes across lazy idiots who give the instrument a bad name, and they're sadly common because bass has this reputation of "guitar but easy"
He has a very light and humorous presentation, but he is an absolute monster on bass. Easily one of the best players I’ve ever seen.

Of my 10+ years of watching on TH-cam, Charles is the best musician on the platform.

Berthoud is more of a musician than a bass player as was illustrated with him playing the piano. He, of course, shreds on guitar as well.
For what it's worth having at last passable piano skills is quite common in formally educated musicians (and Berthoud went to Berklee): it's used for analysis (chords, music theory), it's super useful for composition, and in a school setting being able to accompany is a good way to get mates.

Charles (Bear Too) is simply the epitome of Bass-dom!!!

Charles!! Nobody can do it better! Plus he's hilarious!
Is Charles the best bass player on TH-cam? Yes. Yes, indeed. The man exudes pure talent.
Very entertaining.
Think of his last name as these 2 words: "bear" and "too"
You don't appear to realize that Charles Berthoud is Bass God!
short answer: yes. long one: yes he is
Bear two...that is how you pronounce his name. I am so glad that you enjoyed this...

Nice rhythms dancing with the melodies and chords
When I heard charles cover, that was the only time I actually enjoyed that song
Freaking Great !!!!!
What model is that blue guitar behind you? My bro used to play one.
It’s a Mexico-made Fender Stratocaster. It was my first electric guitar 🙂 The other one is a PRS Custom 22 and it is goooorgeous.
I love how everyone kept mispronouncing his name the first time. It's like a thing now🤣
Peut être même un des meilleurs bassistes au monde
He's a friggin orchestra.
He's the best bass player on planet earth. He conquered youtube years ago.

It’s pronounced like Bear-two

Hot take: Is Charles better than Jaco??? Quite different styles but maybe?
There are no superlatives!

I prefer Charles more than Davie, Charles has more substance and plays amazingly, instead of davie’s subpar (in my opinion) slap playing.
It's pronounced "bare-two"
This dude does not slap hard enough, davie504 does not approve.
