That piston is completely fine. I've had pistons with circles on them from completely smacking valves run fine in a modified diesel for 300k km, absolutely zero issues. Those pistons are actually in another engine now, running more boost with a bigger turbo.
It probably would be in a diesel but on a petrol engine that roughness will cause some bad knocks. It should be fine if you just sand it flat like adam suggested but.

Piston should be fine, put it at TDC cover the others and buff it to take sharp edges off, blow it off & run it. Don't go crazy just a bit of scotchbrite & elbow grease, don't hit the deck. Can always check the piston to valve clearance if you wanna be sure next time.

Never rush. Rushing just creates new problems. When engine building always triple check every single thing. To many people working on one thing. Also working late into the night or working all day long makes it easy for mistakes to be made, even small mistakes or stupid mistakes are bound to happen when working late or when tired. I learned the absolute hardest way possible when reinstalling my freshly built trans into my truck. Did all the work in one day finishing around midnight and had it running/driving. After 65 miles I had to pull the trans back out because I broke an important part while working on it late after going at it all day. Tiredness and sloped driveway caused me a lot of extra work and another $500 😔
Rocker arm stoppers are also no good because instead of throwing the shims when they should, they keep them in-place and direct that damage to the valve in turn usually causes a piston to be not so happy anymore.. Ive thrown rocker arms from rev limiter, lucky enough the head has many cavities the shims like to sit in! just my .02
All that matters is that you learned from the mishap. Don't look at it as a mistake just a learning experience. I have trashed a couple Motors by trying to rush and take shortcuts.
If you are going to reuse the piston (which I probably would if the damage is as minimal as Adam makes it sound) I would remove the piston from the engine and polish out the damage and then clean piston, lube it back up and reinstall it. Additionally unless you have a lathe and proper polishing bow I would seriously consider sending the camshaft out to a machine shop to have scratches polished out. Not to rub salt in the wound I am a firm believer that before starting an engine that any internal work was done to I cannot stress enough the importance of removing the spark plugs and rotate the engine over by hand at least one time for every cylinder. Secondly if you hear a strange sound when starting a newly rebuilt engine and you hear a strange sound stop and determine the cause of the sound before cranking the engine again. All that said opinions are like a certain excretory body orifice and everybody has one. Have a nice day and a better tomorrow.
