This is how "based on a true story" means absolutely nothing outside of "I heard a story that was true, and that gave me an idea for a movie that doesn't have anything to do with the true story".
The true story was a group of men were traveling in another country. They came across a dog, one of them gave it something to eat, and the dog started following them.
They came to a river and got into their kayaks, and the dog still tried following them by swimming.
So one of them decided to keep the dog.
He had to put the dog in quarantine when they came back home, filled out all the legally required paperwork, and took the dog home when he could. Simple cut and dry true story turned into a fictional fantasy for hollywood.
Well they have to entertain the audience. Like you said it is a Hollywood movie. That story you said, although sweet, sounds like it would be boring if I had to watch it for nearly two hours. Not defending this movie or anything (cuz the movie sounds kinda boring too) just, engaging with you I guess. Hope you have a good day my dude

It makes a cool and interesting 2 minute news story about a group of friends who go on adventure type vacations, and this time came across a dog that started following them.
But "based on a true story" is a hook that many people get stuck on for what would otherwise be a movie that they'll admit is a ridiculous story line.
Inspired by something heard or read. That's most scripts.
@@davidjames579 There's a reason why you usually hear "based on a true story" instead of "inspired by a true story".
The differences in connotations are obvious.
@@gregorylagrange the literal interpretation of based would be starting point. I think that's how we need to take them. True event, fiction built on the foundation.

They cheesiness of the trailer for this movie damn near clogged my arteries 😂
I'd rather watch something cheesy than yet another superhero comedy. I love my superheroes serious and somehow ground in reality like The batman, joker, Logan, first superman, the nolan trilogy. But not yet another aquaman or guardians of the galaxy, so silly and stupid.

Saw it at my local movieplex, get it out of the way
It's about as straightforward as you'd expect
Dog lovers will rejoice although it takes a long while for the actual dog to show up with our main leads
The human players aren't very deep either
I was truly getting teary eyed near the end though and the cinematography is lovely looking at the jungle terrain
There's lots of stuff in here about redemption and humility
Maybe would've worked better as a tv flick but as it is the film is a decent underdog story to say the least

My dog bonding movie is Benji, where he's homeless and he help stop some criminals, he also befriended a little white female dog, the part I cried was when the white dog got kicked by one of the criminals, I screamed cried.

Korey, when you say, this is all done again and again in movies...do you mean tv and streaming? Because not everyone watches the same TV specially if we are abroad, even with VPN is really difficult. Not everyone watches as much TV as american and you as a critic you should watch less TV and more movies and read more books. With some exceptions like when you reviewed shogun or tyler perry's movies which are mostly on netflix but TV isn't an event, so many series with good ratings and good quality get lost in the myriad of services. I binge one or two tv series and I have my eyes on Double toasted rec shogun and one piece but other than that I only have one streaming service Netflix and I cancelled it on January wont' renew until the spring break.
So you want a longtime TH-camr with an established, successful format to throw it all away because you have a prejudiced view of Americans as “watching too much TV,” and because you think he should “read more books.” Has it occurred to you that Korey specifically watches a lot of TV BECAUSE he is an online critic and NOT because he’s an American? Has it occurred to you how much of this audience Korey would lose if he switched formats to book reviews?

It's a fact that they consume too much TV, in other countries people actualy *gasps* go out to the movie theater!! and yes everyone should read more books, but critics specially because that's the reason they deservely had lost views and clicks, they were jerks to Great gastby, Maze Runner, Miss Peregrine, and other book to movie adaptations and they lost the faith of book readers and when the LGBTQ critics wanted people to go and watch Love simon they couldn't because they have spread the word that most book to movie adaptations were bad. But in those years they gave mediocre marvel movies like Rangnarok and Guardians of the galaxy which are filled with plotholes high ratings.And you don't seem to read, so you may be the one who needs to read books. I never said korey should switch to book reviews.
