    Thank you for posting this. It is all very well seeing the pictures on the news but your video puts a personal touch to the flooding. I hate to think what would have happened if we had got that much rain here in Christchurch

    Here, in Rotorua its been pelting throughout the day, today Sunday, no let up. There are some low lying areas and some with streams running through, have not heard any flood news from there. Down the road in Te Puke a log train de-railed today. Forecast is wet tonight and still more rains till Wednesday. Be safe folks.

    Hope your damage wasn't too bad. I live near the clutha river in Alexandra down south so flooding is our worst nightmare because when it happens in central Otago it happens fast. Our thoughts are with you and good on your husband and you for helping neighbors too

    When I lived in Roskill, I used to walk/jog in Kieth Hay Park beside Richardson road. There are 2 canals beside the park one is so small and blocked with leaves and stuff that in non storm rains it gets flooded easily, both canal leads to that huge canal beside the motorway.. I dont know if the water from Richardson road go through that small canal if so it explains the flood around that area. Also they are building that huge water basin somewhere that connects to that canal I wonder how it performed..Hopefully you all safe.

    Wow! Over and above the sheer volume of rain that fell, is the drainage system the issue? This reminds me of Nairobi (Kenya) when it rains heavily. Flooding due to poor drainage system. Water will find it's way forward (down) and if it has nowhere to go (including being blocked by housing), it'll form a pool if it can't go around it. I lived at the bottom of a hill and rain water ran down into my garden (and house). I built a moat around my house to redirect the water.

    Good video and commentary, hope the damage wasn't too bad in your house. Get some sandbags so you can make a dam in front of your garage door, so the water doesn't get in.

    This is what happens when you privatise the council and build 5 houses per property .

    Same thing happened friday in my country. My house completely surrounded by water.
    Very bad drainage system. Govt only focussing and boasting about tram installation in our country. Building new roads. More shopping mall. More housing estates, but drains and drainage systems, worst

      Infill housing to blame. Twice as much surface area is now impermeable, doubling the stress on drains

    No matter where you are in the world 🌎 unexpected whether patterns seem to show up more often in places and it’s supposed to be summer here can only mean,yes climate change until you can explain why in a city in summer usually hot 🥵 and sunny they get not just rain but so much in a short time so let’s have a conversation and keep it real why climate change is not a factor in this issue and many other unusual whether patterns around the world 🌎

      It's normal to rain every January iin Summer in NZ. It's usually the campers in Coromandel that get flooded out. Last Summer without rain was an exception.

    you guys don't know what sandbags are? helping the water to flow more freely is not something you want to do just leaving your garage door open to accumulate the water faster????

    • @logancallander8790
      @logancallander8790 ปีที่แล้ว

      It showed that it was actually coming into the garage from the inside so sandbags would of made it worse

    • @bidoof8361
      @bidoof8361 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@logancallander8790 so the water was coming from inside the house that makes no sense unless there was a broken pipe.
