    In the RAE in the late 70's early 80's we had a fleet of Devons - flew on them many times, wing oil tank filler seals always leaked over the wings !

    Got many hours driving the old Dove, an ergonomic disaster but handled well, although heavy on the ailerons, due that huge span!👍

    I flew the Dehavilland Dove and Heron. Pneumatic brakes were a little weird.

    As an NCO I got to serve in the Irish Army Air Corps (1974-1977). Doves #194 and #201 were used frequently until the 1st Kingair #232 was added. On one flight practicing engine-outs, I was appalled by the loss of forward movement and thought the running engine was going to take us directly to the scene of the accident 😛

    Flew an RAF painted Devon last year, loved it! Such a nice little plane, only problem was it wasn't long enough :D They should do holidays to France or something using these vintage planes, people would love it.

    I used to fly on Prinnair's Dove & Heron's as a passenger out of San Juan to St.Thomas for my once a month liquor run's in the 70's.

    I got to land a Dove (under supervision) at Gove in Australia's Northern Territory in the mid 1970's. As I recall, it handled very well, a delight to fly.

      @@MaxwellCavill No mate, it wasn’t PK-LEA. It was VH-DHH. I knew the SAATAS fleet well. Was your Dad Dick Cavill? John.

      @MaxwellCavill ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnorr7386 Hey John, Dick Cavill was my Grandfather. PK-LEA was based with SAATAS East Indonesia, but thought it might have done some runs in the NT. I fly out of Darwin now for Hardy Aviation on metroliners. Sort of following his footsteps. But thats really cool you knew the SAATAS fleet. It was well before my time since they closed shop in the 70's.

    Que increible que un avión tan antiguo continue en vuelo. De pequeño vivi en una base militar pues mi padre pertenecia a la Fuerza Aerea y estos aviones ya estan desmantelados por la decada del 60. Observo que en el instrumental tiene incorporado elementos digitales modernos.

    nice flight but were the pilots sit and control the airplane isn't called the flight deck. it's called the cockpit. Flight decks is what you call the top of an aircraft carrier. Other than, nice video. Would be cool to see one here in the US.

    • @charlescanton4740
      @charlescanton4740 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be inclusive we must call it the flight deck because cock&puss pit just doesn't fly.

    How come this has Rolls-Royce engines? Doves normally had DH Gipsy Queens. I know there were some later, US, turbo-prop conversions but what's the story behind this Dove?

    Why do the engines have a Rolls Royce emblem on the side. I thought the Dove used De Havilland Gypsy Queen engines.

      @@johnjephcote7636 I don't know why the aircraft has the Rolls-Royce logos on the cowls, but those are Gipsy Queens driving three-bladed props. The Heron had tow-bladed props.

    It deserves a pair of P & W turbine engines.
