She is so funny and honestly I’m shocked why everyone is so surprised like have people not watched her on snl? 😂 when she first came out and started singing in no one mourns the wicked I genuinely got choked up
I also like to think of the emotion of the line "I can't want it anymore." Is more than just her dreams being crushed, but her realizing her own worth and desires far surpass her "dreams," and she is taking on this weight that she knows she has too because that's who she is. She is becoming her true self and accepting herself rather than chasing a dream that she can never happily have.
Agree. Standing up for her morals and beliefs has become her new dream and vision and the dream of working for the wizard is just incompatible to who she is. I think in life often we have ideas of what things are going to be like and then we are faced with the complicated and flawed reality of situations. I think it’s a good message for people to think critically about their dreams and who they are
My perspective of Ariana’s portrayal of almost realization during no one mourns the wicked. Is to me it at least on screen looked like she was realizing she is also wicked and has been abandoned “goodness knows, the wicked die alone.”
Yes I can definitely see that! Not only does she feel abandoned but she feels she’ll die alone when elphaba is no longer there by her side. I think it’s a great song to help show her moral panic and realisation that she needs to change for the better

Also, at this point, Glinda thinks that the two she loved the most -- Elphie & Fiyero -- are gone forever (in the 1995 grimdark novel for adults , it's even worse, since Elphaba & Fiyero are canonically dead in it [genuinely melted for real & bludgeoned to death by the Gale Force milita, respectively]).

They didn’t really show that in the musical, so idk. I guess it’s way more clear in the book that Glinda does eventually actually bring good change to Oz after she arrests morrible and the wizard flees
@jonrepeat that rubs me the wrong way, to strategically sit by why your friend is targeted and everyone is against her and help uphold the lie that's she's wicked. Glinda is a horrible friend and it's astounding so many people defend her when she helped turn all of Oz against her, maybe y'all want friends like that so no thanks for me.
