I swear man Nanako on the Midnight Channel made me freak out. The entire dungeon I was in a sense of panic. I blitzed through it faster than any dungeon in Persona because I couldn't stand the idea of her being at risk.
There being such upbeat music for a lot of the sad scenes for Nanako reminds me of a phrase that's always stuck with me" "If you don't choose to laugh over your trauma,, then you're forced to cry."
It's been a good 10 years since I first played P4 so a lot of it already faded from my mind, but the way you recounted Nanako's social links made my jaw drop in a way I can't describe. Brilliant video, as always, keep at it
If they Remake Persona 4 I can obly hope they don't recast Nanako. Karen Strassman just nailed it. Got teary eyed just remembering her Voicelines in those Scenes.
Major spoilers for P4 Honestly, outside of P4 biases, I feel like the real reason why Nanako’s death is the saddest moment in Persona for me (no matter how brief it was) wasn’t JUST the fact Nanako was a child. People say Shinjiro and Makoto Yuki’s death hits harder because they stick. Don’t get me wrong, those are some sad moments and they hit me hard too. But P4 doesn’t focus on the themes of death the way P3 does. That and, at least Shinjiro and Makoto died on their own terms. Nanako is not granted that choice and dies in a very realistic manner. Not only that, it leads up to the bad endings perfectly. Killing Namatame ultimately kills Nanako for real and sever your ties to reach for the truth, and while Nanako lives in the other bad ending, seeing the girl’s reaction to the boys and Naoto being driven to kill Namatame shatters my heart. And all of this is without getting into the anime and seeing how badly Yu takes everything.
