    One of the most enjoyable and earnest videos on the Ring Road I’ve seen! I am glad to hear the wildflowers will still be in bloom in late June - my cousin and I will be driving the Ring Road in early July. How much did you pay for parking, on average?

    • @BlokhinFilms
      @BlokhinFilms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We paid very seldom for parking, maybe once. I honestly can't remember how much. But it could have changed since 2018. I know that Iceland began more actively charging tourists for visiting landmarks, especially the ones that are popular and get crowded. There could be no charge for visiting a particular place, but you get charged for parking and restroom. Oh restrooms...I hope they built more restrooms along the route.

    I am very jealous because I didn't have chance to do the entire Ring Road :( But I have always wanted to go back and this video gives me that extra motivation!
    The only spots that I would like to recommend that weren't shown in this video would be Thingvellir national park, Gulfoss and Geysir which are not that far from Reykjavik.
    Also, kudos to you for the great video quality!

    • @BlokhinFilms
      @BlokhinFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you Andrew! Yes the entire ring road is worth it and all of the places are worth visiting! We actually have another video that includes Thingvellir and Gullfoss here: th-cam.com/video/NqGt2C56reE/w-d-xo.html
      We didn't include those here because it was part of the golden circle route we did separately in autumn as this video was in summer.
      Another amazing place to visit in Iceland is the west fjords. We would like to do that next time. Amazing looking cliffs there!
      Thank you for commenting.

    • @BlokhinFilms
      @BlokhinFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! We spent the nights in Airbnbs in guesthouses mostly. It was expensive at 100-150 US dollars for only a room, but not that bad. Some houses were exceptional. Of course people with higher budgets can stay in hotels or rent a van. We didn't choose to spend the nights in specific areas, only along the route when we found a good Airbnb.

    Hello and thank you for sharing your journey! We are planing on going clockwise on the Ring Rd. from Kef airport in July. We arrive early Friday and depart from Kef the following Wednesday early evening. That is a total of 5 days and 18 hours in Iceland. We are primarily interested in enjoying the surroundings on our way to Akurye, Myvatn, Studgal Canyon, Hofn, Vik, and Reykjavik before departing. Our goal is to arrive and overnight in Vik Monday and make our way to Reykjavik Tuesday for our last night so we can explore the city on Wednesday. Thoughts? Any advice is welcome and happy to hear from you.

    • @BlokhinFilms
      @BlokhinFilms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sounds like a great plan! Honestly, there weren't any places we didn't like and many that we missed, so it doesn't matter where you go as long as you are interested in those places. We would have loved to go on more hikes and hidden places in nature, but it all depends on what specifically you want to see there. Hope you have a great trip! Very nice video. Are there enough gas stations along the ring road? I am trying to plan an itinerary for Iceland. Do the rental car companies provide you with maps of the island? Are there road signs marking the waterfalls and other attractions? Did you pre book your hotels or just booked a room as you traveled? Thank you.

    • @BlokhinFilms
      @BlokhinFilms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes we found there to be enough gas stations along the ring road, just try to not leave the tank less than half full, and keep in mind we had a tiny, very fuel efficient car. I don't know about maps of the island, we just used google maps and offline maps app. Yes, we found the road signs to inform us well of the main attractions, however you had to know where a few of them were yourself. We used google maps and offline maps to mark everything we wanted to see. We pre-booked private rooms through Airbnb. Hope this helps!

    Great video guide, we are planning similar trip but don’t have that many days since we wanted to stay one night in Reykjavik and 1 night in blue lagoon.
    I have 2Q;
    1. How advance did you book your accommodations? Basically will it be wise for 3 girls to just take on road trip and find accommodations on way?
    2. What will you advise if you had just 3 days?

    • @BlokhinFilms
      @BlokhinFilms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, thanks for watching. We booked our trip 2-3 months in advance including accomodations. I have no idea if it's wise to just wing it on accomodations but it's likely it will be possible to find an Airbnb at the last minute. I wouldn't do the whole ring road in just three days, and would stick to just seeing spots along the popular golden circle route instead, but it's up to you! The golden circle route is relatively short, so seeing other places will also be possible in 3 days.

    Thanks for the video, how rushed did 6 days feel?

    • @BlokhinFilms
      @BlokhinFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not too bad looking back at it. We definitely saw a lot in 6 days with nonstop driving. It was a bit tiring in the end but worth it, as we could only do 6 days due to a free layover. We did stay at scenic spots we liked for as long as we wanted to, and managed a few hikes. You could make it as rushed or not depending on what you want to see. We did another shorter trip afterwards through the golden circle and it was more relaxed, though we didn't see as much as in those 6 days. Hope this helps!

    Thank you for the video. I have a few questions... Do you have the google maps itinerary by any chance? How and where did you fill-up the tank? What currency did you use when buying things? On average, how much time would you spend on each of the different sites? We'll be renting a van and sleeping in it. Are there rest areas where we can stop and sleep or could we just stop anywhere and take a nap? Sorry for so many questions lol! Thanks in advance!

    • @BlokhinFilms
      @BlokhinFilms  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sorry no map itinerary; we planned everything in a document and went day by day. There are gas stations throughout the country, and our car was small and had good gas economy. Gas is expensive, and we payed with a credit card that has no foreign transaction fees. We didn't need cash anywhere. Spend as much time as you want at any place, some are more interesting than others, and that is individual. We didn't rent a van so I don't know about where to sleep or park as far as that goes. We hope you enjoy your trip! There are lots of guides online to all of your questions, and they go in more detail.

    Very beautiful and helpful video! I am going to Iceland in a couple of weeks, and I am still uncertain on what I will do with my time there (10 days). The Ring Road is certainly under consideration. In your experience, can the Ring Road be completed in a 2-wheel drive car? I am aware that a storm can disrupt (or cancel) any itinerary, but if the weather is cooperative, are the roads suitable for "normal" city cars?

    • @BlokhinFilms
      @BlokhinFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! We had a Hyundai i10 for the ring road trip (so the smallest car possible), and the roads were great except for a few gravel ones like to Dettifoss, but we managed that fine too. We did do another trip through the golden circle in September too and rented a similar car. However, the car rental company, Blue car rental, sent out a warning on the day of travel of strong winds in the highlands and potential sandstorms in southeast Iceland (many gravel roads were closed). Despite this, the main ring road should have been fine to drive through even then. I don't know if this is just going by chance or if September is worse than June. I think we had some kind of sandstorm insurance which wasn't too pricey (the gas was far more expensive than the rental). Hope this helps and have a great trip!

    How much you spend on gas ?

    • @BlokhinFilms
      @BlokhinFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was around USD $300 for almost a week of lots of driving. We had a compact Hyundai i10 smart car that was very economical in term of fuel consumption. And yet! Gas in Iceland is very expensive. I cannot recall exact prices in June of 2018, but you can probably find such information.

    Great video! Honestly, I think 6 days for ring road are too short. In your tour, you have missed some amazing areas like Hengifoss, Studlagil canyon, the golden circle, thermal pools, fjarsallon, glacier hikes.... Iceland have too much to offer and doing ring road in only 5 days makes you to drive many hours just for 2-3 places per day

    • @BlokhinFilms
      @BlokhinFilms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. We had a free stopover from Icelandair that gave us a maximum of 6 full days to see the country. If someone is on a tight budget like we were, this is a great way to see many places. Otherwise, it's definitely nice to not drive as much and visit other wonderful places such as those you mentioned.

    The ring Including Snaefellsnes in only 6 days ? Congratulations, I think you hold the worldrecord. But like most tourists you have no idea about what Iceland is all about, you just ain't seen nothing yet.

    • @BlokhinFilms
      @BlokhinFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And I totally agree with you. We had 6 days as a free stay attached to Icelandair layover and we tried to use it to the fullest. There were many more places we wanted to visit, but did not. That will be the next time. And definitely without a rush! Thanks for watching!

      What a poor comment. If these guys only had 6 days that’s irrelevant. Ive done a ring road trip over 2 weeks and still only touch the surface of Iceland. However these guys still were able to get an essence of what this amazing country is all about and saw many of the main sites. The good thing is it will give them a taste to do it again.

      Thanks for sharing. Was it hard to find restaurants during your six day travel? Also, you mentioned that you stayed in Guest houses. Were they decent places to stay or are there hotels or Airbnb locations? Thanks in advance.

    • @BlokhinFilms
      @BlokhinFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@goutvols103 we didn't go to restaurants because they were expensive, but there were probably more affordable ones in the countryside. We booked rooms in guesthouses, which are very similar to hotels, through Airbnb, but sometimes just booked a room in someone's house. This was all around 100 US dollars per night a few years ago. You could also do this through booking.com and other websites. They were actually very decent accomodations. We stayed at a farm one time with amazing views. I think the other options such as real hotels would be way more expensive, plus there aren't that many in the countryside. Hope this helps!

      @@BlokhinFilms Thank you very much. So, you had your meals at the guest houses? I had read where the gas stations had some decent food.

      @@goutvols103 we bought food at grocery stores and cooked at the guest houses and maybe bought from a gas station one time, but because we were on a budget and had little time to cook or sit down and eat because of driving and exploring, we subsisted mainly on peanut butter, bananas and rice cakes lol. Oftentimes, guesthouses offer a free breakfast with fresh fruits and cold meats, cheeses. Next time, it would be nice to try some local delicacies. Hope you have a great trip!
