    I've noticed that after the first slope blur greyscale, it looks a bit like silk. Perhaps it could be used to make silk with some modification.

      Indeed! So many different use cases in Designer

      Yeah, slope blur greyscale is a very interesting node. It can be used for adding details to cracks, used for chipped paint, and I think it can be used to add details in rocks on a stone wall. I'm sure there are a lot more uses for it, but those are the ones I've directly seen.
      I've been enjoying the process of learning about Substance Designer. Like anything, initially it's overwhelming but in time I learned some of the basics. I'm not sure if I would consider my Substance Designer skills at the basic or intermediate level. Probably late basic level, though I still have a lot to learn.
      Oh, I just read that you created the PBR guide. I downloaded the PDF version, but have yet to read it. I did skim a few sections, since I was interested in learning when to various levels of metallic. It's definitely something I should read sooner than later.
      Anyway, I hope you have fun creating things.

      Thanks for the input! Just experimenting with some of the clips I had created. I share these tips in short format on my Instagram and was thinking it might work well on YT. I have lots of these on my IG. instagram.com/wesrmcdermott/

      You are great, but YTube shorts at the moment are awful.

      @@schonkigplavuis8850Just do:
      1. Right click on the video
      2. copy the video url
      3. open a new tab in your browser
      4. paste this address (now it will be displayed as a normal yt video)

    these cracks look awesome. Also looks like its a great base for a cracked dry dessert floor texture. Do you mind sharing your tile sampler values to achieve this result ?

    I've noticed that the alpha textures that come with substance painter come with editable parameters. Is it possible to create that type of masks by exposing the corresponding parameters, and then importing as an alpha in painter?

    • @wes.mcdermott
      @wes.mcdermott  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! You can create your own parametric alphas using Substance Designer.

      @@wes.mcdermott there is all types of wood out there even on substance source. Found none like burl wood veneer except on quixel megascans, but those are scanned. A tweakable sbs file is alot more fun and versatile. I hope you will maybe one day do a tutorial for this type of wood brother!

    I have no idea how is this considered an instructional video. this is clearly intended to show off, whist calling it a "quick tip" for views.

    • @wes.mcdermott
      @wes.mcdermott  ปีที่แล้ว

      It shows the nodes used to create the effect. Was looking to try to create a video that produces an effect that can be learned very quickly. Would be better to have included a voice over. I will work to improve quick tips in the future.
