- The opening round of the 2019-20 400 Thunder season continues at Sydney Dragway with the East Coast Thunder and in this edition of our broadcast, we bring to you all the action from the methanols burning monsters that are Pro Alcohol. This time last season, Robert Ambruosi bike through to win his maiden gold Christmas Tree. Can he do it again, or will Gary Phillips kick off his attempt to win Australian Title No. 21 on a strong note?

@@basberend - Yup. Over 40 injectors on a blown V8. Nitro is run at a 3:1 ratio and the engine is continually on the verge of hydraulic lock. That's why it takes 16 plugs and 2 mags (at 40+ amps apiece) to keep it all lit.

what are they spraying into the airbox?
Petrol, as the alcohol fuel can cause the intakes to freeze up before the engines are warmed up and stop working properly.and petrol stops that from happening.

edda fins Different teams use different stuff. The alcohol causes the injector to ice up. If it’s humid enough the ice will build at the butterfly’s and lower the engine idle speed causing the barrel valve to make the motor idle too rich thus not building enough heat in the motor to make good power on the run. The idle circuit is very important on a blown alky or fuel motor. Idle mixture controls engine temp for the start of the run. It’s almost like a thermostat. Cylinder head temps will affect engine power more than one would think. I have herd of people using gas but WD-40 or De-ice is more popular in the states. Using gas is ok on a screw type PSI blower but tends to make the Teflon swell up on a roots blower.

Definitely C rotor outlaw PSI going on here. I wish NHRA opened the rule book up like the Ozzys do!!! Let it EAT!!!! Ozzys sure do know how to drag race now days. I remember Americans talking smack some years ago untill they came over and started winning championships. I would like to burn nitro in Australia some day!
