Details on how to remove EV Foam Boat Marine Flooring from your boat. and Install of Aqua Traction Advanced Marine Flooring on my 17' Flats Boat.
Do NOT Install EV Foam Flooring on your boat. It permanently stains the gelcoat and in some places it bubbled up the gelcoat. It took three days of scraping with a wide putty knife and a multitool with a knife blade, soaking the residual adhesive with Goo Gone, scraping with a razor blade, and washing the Goo Gone off with Zep Degreaser to get it ready for the Aqua Traction Advanced Marine Flooring install. Touch up with Acetone and Mineral Spirits to get what was left after all that.

Music is a bit much, especially the first couple songs. When your narrating in the beginning, it's tough to hear you and a distraction to what your saying. Great video of the new install though, looks great!

What was the cost difference between the EVA Foam and the Aqua Traction?
Depends on what your time to install the EVA is worth. The Aqua Traction was $30 a sq ft installed. My boat was about $1800 installed.

so take one foam product off for another foam product, Polyethaline Foam. The first decking appears to be Amazon or eBay grade likely without UV inhibitors and a lesser quality PSA based off of the removal. The good news is that you figured out that you have to get the foam off with the oscillating scraper before dealing with chemicals.
EVA Foam, like any boating product, requires maintenance. Nothing in a boat will stand up to the intense UV it receives without maintenance. As soon as you lay down EVA give it a coat of 'spray on' UV / stain inhibitor. Give it additional coats based on usage. If you're an 4 to 5 day a week user you need it every month. Mild dish soap and a rinse after every trip out. Covering your boat is another good way to protect it when not in use.
If you think you can "lick it stick it and forget it" on any boat deck covering you're fooling yourself.
PS: Educated yourself on EVA performance specifications before purchasing for a DIY project. Then you'll know to why to stay away from Ebay & Chinazon products. Florida has many reputable suppliers with more color choices, textures, sizes, thickness, etc. And they'll ship. Marine Mat is a good one.

How long did the stuff that you replaced it with last or keep its appearance and structural integrity and would you buy it again?
The EVA foam from eBay and Amazon that I took out only lasts two years. I fish 4-5 days a week and I'm in Florida. The white lines disintegrated first then the brown, could see it washing away each time I rinsed the boat off. Plus if gouges easily. I would not put EVA foam on a boat again.

Did the boat sit uncovered in the sun? I just ordered some custom cut/but still not name brand Eva foam. Hoping it lasts 5 years minimum. I only go out on weekends May-Aug and boat sits covered when not in use

Do you have footage of your old eva foam? How it looked after two years?
It was all cracked up and flaking away.
How much did the aqua traction cost you? After seeing this, looks like its worth the money to pay someone to give a great result.

@@radamus210 I fish 4-6 days a week. Yes it is under roof the rest of the time.
that EVA foam is a total mess after a few years and it gets brown stains everywhere. The company that sells this needs to be sued, seriously!
Thank God I really looked into using EVA foam products. No way in hell am I buying the cheap stuff. I'll just repaint my deck and when I can afford a 1quality product.

why people still use foam is beyond me , its a very out dated way of filling spaces & becomes water logged after a few years ... its way better to pre fill empty gaps with plastic bottles & then foam them into place , less chance of water logging & if your boat ever gets a hole in it the bottles will provide buoyancy & stop you sinking
