- The journey toward North Cape continues. After waking up at a fantastic beach I hit the road early in the morning. But after only a couple of kilometers the trip came to a halt. I reached a sign that said the the road was closed further up the road. How will I be able to continue?

Crystal clear videography, well matched music, artful editing! Thanks for taking us along!
The flies are the deal-breaker!
I would not do well in that environment!
Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video and all of your videos on your channel. My husband and I (we are from Ohio in America) have done a few short (9 to 15 day) tours near to us but are dreaming of the day when we can tour longer and also visit other countries. Part of that dreaming is watching bike touring videos, especially during the cold winter months. I have to tell you that you are our absolute favorite bike tourer! You are so real and honest with your videos but also make us feel as if we are right there with you! Your type of touring is exactly what we love to do as well, which is camping, camp cooking, viewing the beautiful landscapes and meeting local people. Thank you so much for all the work you put into these videos!! Lisa
Thank you Lisa for your wonderful comment. You just made my day! Sorry about not responding back earlier. But again, thank you for writing such a nice comment.
Yes, we can see the flies! And hear them. And I can feel them! I suffered many bites at Manatee Springs in Florida. The bites itched and oozed fluid for days, it was a bit demoralizing. Not as bad as being stung by hornets while riding a technical section of trail here in Boise. You can't let go of the handlebars to swat them away, and you can't stop!
The uphill climbs are the worst! You're sweating all over the place and the flies seem to catch up to you.
Even the ‘non-scenic’ route is beautiful (though, shame about the road closure and the horse flies). Interesting that the Swedish and Norwegan languages are similar in that part of the world - and also amazing and so convenient, that English is so widely spoken. Many thanks again Mike - well done
Most people under the age of 70 speak English fluently in Sweden and Norway. So it's a good destination in that fashion. You don't have to learn a bunch of local phrases to be understood.
Hi Mike, I’ve been watching and enjoying many of your videos the last few days. I love your laid back, natural style. I’m sure your interactions with the people you meet will be very enjoyable too. But yeah, I know, that’s always difficult to do.
What a joy to experience this journey even if vicariously. Many thanks Michael great work you're a top bloke.. Travel safe.
Wonderful video continuation of your bike tour. Really appreciate the work you put into these. Such a beautiful country.
Poor Mike, I suffered with you watching you almost eaten up by the nasty flies. However it was another great impression of beautiful SENJA. Looking forward to your next video. Thx!
I’ll tell you briefly about an interesting incident that happened to me on Saturday in a store in Senja several years ago. This case is about Norwegian law-abidingness and the desire to selflessly help any person.
My favorite place in Norway is the island of Senja. The island is huge, but sparsely populated and there are not many shops there. Almost all stores are closed on Sundays and have shorter hours on Saturdays. I, of course, knew about this, but I was delayed while walking in the mountains and arrived about five minutes after the local shop closed. I tried to persuade the owner of the store to sell me at least some food, but he did not agree to anything, he said that he did not have the right to punch a receipt after a certain time. I answered him: “So let me leave you the money for the groceries, and you can make a check on Monday.” “No,” the Norwegian answers: “that’s not possible.” “Well, why should I die of hunger now?” - I ask: “I have absolutely no food left!” “Okay,” says the Norwegian, “wait a minute.” A few minutes later he returns with a huge bag filled to the brim with groceries. “This is for you,” he says, “a gift.” “Let me pay,” I try to insist. “No, I don’t have the right to take money after the store closes. It’s not legal. But I can give a gift at any time,” the Norwegian answers.
Your video makeing is great they realy are superb, and your fly biteing dance was briliant, thanks mike, love following your adventures.
Another epic instalment Mike. Thank you.
Last Summer I traveled on bike in Senja. The scenic road was closed in working days but opened at the weekends. I did not know about this but luckely I arrived on Senja on Friday so I had time for visiting my favorite island Husoy
Thanks
Thank you Nikki! That's very kind of you.
Another great video Mike. I look forward to them coming out. Norway/Sweden is on my list.
Another great video thank you. The water looks amazing so clear
I’ll be dreaming about seeing that bridge in real life, amazing👍
Thank you John! Now in hindsight I wished I would've gone over the bridge and explored the island more. It was late in the day and I was a bit tired. But when I got back home and started doing research for these videos I realized that it would have been nice exploring the island a bit more.
Horse flies have nasty bites! Uggh! Looks so beautiful there. You are so fortunate to have such wonderful adventures.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy following along.
Another great video Mike, thank you very much 👍
Thanks for this awesome video, including the tips that are not in the eurovelo! When I'm there I will surely visit both places :)
Love that we can really see where you are on the maps.
Great video all together! Keep them coming :)
Nice as always, thanks 👍
You have such a wonderful channel. Love that you allow us to see what you do. (Those dang flies lol)
Thank you for your kind words!
Mike..your vlog is top notch...so good, cant wait for next one
Thank you Mauritz! Glad you enjoy watching them.
Tack för ännu en välgjord video!
Tack så mycket!
That sign was there when I passed as well on the 19th of june, I ignored it and it was ok for bicycles at least. Might have been lucky that it was a sunday.
Did hear of someone who had to turn back a few days prior..
Hi Mike. Great video as always. I do not like the flies either, but that is part of the adventure. Looking forward to the next video.
Jag tycker om din film) Actually, due to the facts that I used to travel by bike a lot and now I'm in Sweden, I defenetly have to try some trip here. Also I found Kona Sutra in återviningsrum in very much abondoned condition, but I'll repair it and have some tripping bike)
You're very lucky to find an old used bike. Give it a little bit of love and you'll have a great bike for the future!
Another outstanding video. To bad about the road closure. Those horse fly bites sure do hurt. No lack of motivation to keep moving when they're around. This has been an outstanding series and your production is excellent. Have your ever heard of Mous cell phone cases? They make one for bikes that's supposed to be better then Quadlock. Thanks for the video and take care, Al
Thank you Al! No, I haven't heard of those unfortunately.
Amazing views and video, you're really motivating and helping me towards my first big bike trip in northern Sweden this summer! Hej då!
Glad to hear that!
Great Video Mike, but I don't understand hoe you manage handling those flys! That is crazy!!
Hi Mike, have you considered to rise up your video quality (bigger resolution, bitrate)? Static videos are ok, but movement looks like vhs when i watch it on my 4k monitor/tv :)
Just gotten a new MacBook that will be able to handle 4K, so I'm looking into upgrading my camera in the near future.
I love the scenery but those murderous horse flies would be too much to bear. Having been bitten by one that ended in a trip to the doctors I don't want another.
Thanks for putting up with them and posting another great video.
I'll take one for them team!
Hi Mike, your videos are wondeful and very helping to prepare my next summer bike trip in Norway !
Is the Squirt last long enough in this raining area ?
Way better than Darren's Alff channel. keep the great work mikael
Nice sceneries, that road closure was a pity, but that's part of traveling, but there is something that bothers me : those horse flies seem to be very annoying (and agresive) are there any tricks to keep them away ? for mosquitoes I use Tiger Balm (a friend prefers Vicks Vapo Rub but it is similar) and it works well. Is thermacell effective ?
When was this trip? Which months are the horse fly months?
I think this specific day was July 1st. I think the flies are present during June-August. It was extremely hot for this part of Norway, around 30C hence all the flies. But the flies were very sporadic. At some islands there were none, and at some islands there were aplenty.
All of them flies. It's worse than the Aussie outback
