  • I recently reviewed a Toyota Alphard G, I got a few things wrong in that review.
Here it is again, with my bigger blunders removed. Apologies to the Alphard community and I hope this is a little better! I do care about quality but these things can happen.

In Indonesia, we have an adage, "You can have any supercars you like, but without Alphard, you're nobody.". It's interesting to see European's take on Toyota's interpretation of Caravelle and V-Class...

I've had one for 2 years now. I had it converted to LPG dual fuel and it's just been a joy. Smooth, quite quick, great for holidays, and you can get an uncollapsed twin buggy in the boot with bikes scooters and a weeks shopping, and then drive home in luxury. The local Toyota dealership have had all the parts (shocks, brake discs and pads etc) needed next day. Love it.

I'm thinking of getting one of these now that I've reached 50.
I currently have a bulletproof 2008 Prius. The wife and I went to Wales in it about 3 years ago for a long weekend. We actually slept (comfortably) in it. That hatched the plan: Operation Alphard!
I'd like to know roughly how much an LPG conversion costs and what the MPG is like please?
Looking forward to joining this exclusive club!

    • @jonnym2004
      @jonnym2004 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@michaelggriffiths I had it done at purchase point so got it a little cheaper but I think £1800 is around the normal price. I pay 56p per liter for LPG from Morrisons, it works out at an equivalent of 40 to 48 mpg. I get around 19 on petrol so it paid for itself quite quickly. Try Paul at New Acre cars in Coventry as he is a big importer of them and also converts them to LPG, he also runs the FB Alphard club.

On dimensions - in much of Japan you need a certificate from the local police to prove you have a parking space (within 2km of where you live) before you can buy a car. The dimensions of the spare are noted and you're not allowed to have a car bigger than your space. Lots of people rent a parking space, and they come in different sizes and prices - hence why much of the practical/family stuff tends to be so boxy to make the best use of space.
Love these JDM minivans, we have a Honda Stepwagon (in the class below Alphard/Elgrand) and it's a perfect family/bike/camping wagon.

My old boy owned a first gen Nissan Elgrand, and it was surprisingly pleasant. A smooth petrol V6 compliments this kind of car really well. And it was also just such a nice place to be in. Of course another part of their practicality is they can reasonably accommodate wheelchair users.
    Cheers from Australia

I go to Malaysia a lot and they are superrrr popular. My father in law has this shape with the executive pack in the back also imported from Japan to Malaysia. I have also been picked up in the 2018/2019 spec one with the executive pack in the back and my daysssss the first class seats are lovelyyyy. Literally electric reclining, lower leg recline electric also and control for things like sunroof etc. I think they are great cars, a shame they don’t make a diesel one. I believe Lexus has one coming out for the Asian market too.

Hello. I am Japanese. Toyota Alphard 10 models have engines of 2.4 liter "2AZ-FE" and V6 "1MZ-FE" 3.0 liter, and from the mid-term lot of the 2AZ engine of model 10 type, the engine was changed from a Japanese-made engine to a Chinese-made engine, and the Chinese-made engine is a problem. It is an engine with many points. The main problem is abnormal consumption of engine oil due to abnormal wear of piston rings. In Japan, some vehicles have been repaired at dealers due to recalls, but others are abandoned. The next model, the 20, is also equipped with an engine with the same problem. "1MZ-FE" does not have such problems. The engine with this problem of "2AZ-FE" can be known from the engine lot number.

I live in Japan and had a 3.2l Elgrand with a sliding door on only one side, two 2003 Alphard hybrids, and will pick up a 2008 3.5 V6 20 series Alphard next week. Just on your comments, but hardly anyone has the 4 seater "lounge" limousine versions. It is possible to get a Japan-side dealer find you one in the used car auctions, but they are very rare to spot on the road in Japan. The big trend with Japanese MPVs in the 2000s was from 8 to 7 seaters, basically because people want the two separate business-class style seats in the rear. My second Alphard hybrid from 2003 was a 7 seater and had footrests that rolled out from below the seats, but the trend from the 20 series onwards is for the footrests to be integrated into the seat. The 20 Series G and above have a powered reclining passenger seat with a rising footrest in the front too. The other big difference from the 20 Series onwards that Toyota started selling an Alphard with "younger" styled bodywork called the Vellfire. For the 20 series, the 3.5 is a six speed auto box, but the 2.4 and hybrids are CVT.

    Electronic controlled suspension
And even isofix for car made in 2003
And many other fatures that even 2021 new cars don't have
    And believe me
    The most important thing is
This car is realy reliable with low maintenance with those features

I've been in the market for a small camper for a while.
The VW equivalent of a £15k Alphard will probably set me back £25 - £30k.
Having been on forums for both vehicles for some time, I can honestly say the VW's just don't seem as robust as they once were. Certainly not enough to warrant the extra cash.
    It's scene tax. Nothing more.

You shouldn't drive the alphard. Your status will go lower (like a servant status) if you do so. If you want to be the boss, YOU HAVE TO BE DRIVEN IN ALPHARD and sit in the middle row/back row if your alphard is a royal lounge variant. As an Indonesian, I prefer to buy sw (mazda6 estate) rather than alphard, so my status as a boss can be defended, since I LOVE DRIVING SM!!! But I appreciate that alphard is sold in UK.
