    As someone who worked at a call center that sold DirecTV packages and HEAVILY pushed the Sunday Ticket years ago, this does not surprise me in the slightest.

      As a DIRECTV subscriber, yes you guys did push it and then did the you can cancel anytime!? Unless you can’t get anyone to actually cancel it and you end up renewing it. I hated you guys!

      As someone else who also worked 3rd party for DirecTV, same. After DTV lost the right to have a monopoly over the NFL Sunday Ticket, and Covid, things changed. Drastically. My company lost the DTV contract Jan 2023, so I was out of a job. The 3rd party company went out of business. But the owner of the company had other companies he owned, some sharing the same building, so they went on. I moved on to other things after a very nice severance package and unemployment. Change is part of life. You adapt or die.

    Sunday ticket blacked out your local games if they were doing a "black out" With that said, what a load of BS that if they didn't sell enough tickets then no one can see the game. In a tax payer funded (usually) stadium

    I usually have to work sundays, so my direct ticket is the radio.
    When i watch a game at home, I mute the TV and turn on the radio, they do a much better job of describing plays.

    I didn't even know this was happening. I remember living in Atlanta and being pissed off i couldn't watch the game because of blackout. It's such a skeevy practice I'm surprised this lawsuit didn't happen sooner.

    Oh yes! This happened to my husband when we were in Anchorage Alaska. They didn’t understand we don’t live in a town that has a stadium!
    And what was worse the sports bars were also blacked out

      That and blackouts only apply within a 75 mile radius for the NFL. Anchorage is not local to ANY NFL team.

      American Sports suck. Monopolisation by the major leagues means teams are few. In Europe every town/city has a local sports team and that's who people watch and root for.

    I stopped watching NFL games years ago. Their greed is remarkable. To the point of going after churches throwing Super Bowl gatherings, because the church did not pay the licensing fee to show the game on tv .

      This lawsuit wouldn't even be happening if the nfl allowed the account owner sunday ticket to have the option of only following one team. The NFL forces the person who buys the account to buy all 32 teams.
      The sports bar that started this lawsuit even said that if they were able to only buy a package for the one team they wanted, they wouldn't have even filed the lawsuit.

      Local games are always broadcast locally. Sunday ticket is for games not televised in your area and are blacked out on sunday ticket if you live in that area.

    I remember when my dad had NFL Sunday ticket. What I think was 10 years ago. I want to say he's spending about an extra $200 a month on top of his cable bill. Needless to say he could only do it for 2-3 months.

      Because it's region dependent and also not consistent. You know what the ppv is and that you can only get the content if you pay for it. Now imagine you have a channel in your cable and you watch it every Sunday, now the people doing the show suddenly decide they are not making enough money so your channel gets shut down without prior notice and you can only watch your show if you have DirecTV, screw you if you use any other cable

    I seriously could not care less about the NFL anymore. If this lawsuit bankrupted the organization and football disappeared forever, I wouldn't mind. Especially looking to what football itself does to the non-superstars and how the NFL is denying CTE.

    The NFL seems confident of defeating this lawsuit because they didn’t settle and the judge seems friendly to their argument. However, it’s a jury trial, so it’s still a gamble.

    Antitrust that's very interesting that's like the storage company businesses that are run by a management company because after years of the Mom and Pops being pressured into being run management Wise by a single company they've all started to give in and one single management company out of Irvine runs all the Mom and Pops know most people don't know that but the actual employees can actually move from one storage company to another Storage Company because they have the same management company whereas there's no competition with any of the competitive prices because there is no competition because they're all under one management company very few storage units don't go along with the this program so again the market is not competitive someone should look into that shouldn't they...?

    NFL Sunday Ticket wasn't the only one who blacked out games. I worked for years for a call center company whose client was DirecTV. Customer would call in about blacked-out baseball games, too. I never understood why the viewing public was forced to pay for their local stadium, whether they watched the games or not when the owner(s) of the sports arenas their teams played in were very Wealthy. They could afford to subsidize their own sports arena, but noooo, they forced the local citizens who had TV subscriptions to pay for it.

    In the 60's, Steelers couldn't give away tickets. Even Steelers away games were rarely on TV.
    After the murger of the leagues, Steelers away games started to appear on TV, but not the home games.
    Once away games started to appear on TV interest in the Steelers started to pick up in the late 60's.

    Owners started buying their own tuckets so games didn't get blacked out. Bigger issue is price gouging the apparently refused ESPNs offer to do Sunday Ticket cuz they were only gonna charge $70 per season instead of $250+, killing the rights deals with Fox and CBS.

    Let the NFL fail people. The Board of commissioners said in 2009 that the NFL will become an 800 BILLION dollar profitable corporation before the chairman steps down. The following season, Sunday Ticket announced, 21$ beers at stadiums, parking at stadiums, food at stadiums. Minimum cost for nosebleed tickets for 200$ plus administration fees. Pushing fantasy football down everyone’s throats, now sports betting.
    Players now expect the obscene contracts that a bigger and more insane every year for med level talent. You literally can’t watch your local game on cable without a subscription.

    Meanwhile here in Canada I pay 30$ (Canadian) so like 5$ American a month to watch the NFL and we can watch every single game, multiple ones at the same time and red-zone (they flip to games where the offence is well in the red zone). Its the only thing I enjoy living in Canada.

    I don’t get it. I’m so confused. So the blackout happens when all PHYSICAL seats in a stadium don’t get sold out? Why would they do that? They would intentionally be losing out on money by shutting down the live broadcast ticket sales. Unless I’m missing something.

      If they don't get enough from tickets sales they make so that the game doesn't go live on TV, you have to pay a subscription that's more expensive than most cable plans to watch the game so they make what they are expecting

    If it is a local game the tab has already been paid for by taxes the residents pay. Your drivers license with current address should be all you need to get into any arena your city built with your money.

    Sorry, but you got this wrong Mike. Sellout based blackouts ended in 2014. In a local market like Atlanta every game is on broadcast TV, even streaming and cable ones.
    Sunday Ticket is for "out of market" games, games airing on Sunday afternoon that aren't shown locally. It is very expensive, that's correct.

    Well, the lawsuit from people being hurt that’s gonna absolutely destroy them but this stuff who knows what it means when you have people who play five or six years retire and end up with injuries and conditions that shouldn’t be experienced until you’re in your 60s the league better figure it out

    Kind of makes you wonder about ALL black out laws in sports. When I worked for the OTHER sat company we would laugh at the people that would call up and YELL at us to holy hell froze over because THEY could not watch their teams play. This goes for ALL BLACK OUT LAWS. 🛑🧠✌

    I would say that the NFL are within their right to do this although the Green Bay Packers is an exception because Green Bay Packers is a public company and therefore the people should have access like they would a public park or public mall.
    I would also say that there is no collusion because the NFL is the company and the other owners each have a share of the company.

    The fact that ESPN wanted to do cheaper deals and per team deals in the NFL shut it down lends a lot of credence that they want this to be an expensive thing even though they don't get a percentage of subscription fee they've already been paid a lump sum

      @@GARBO96 NFL owns the broadcast rights to all NFL games. They can divy those up however they want. You either pay for it you don't get to see it. It isn't the NFL's responsibility to cater to your wishes.
