Well back in the day, if one wanted to reserve one of the better or more popular campsites or dates, one had to appear in person at the BSP headquarters in Millinocket on January 1 or you might be disappointed. I did that a few times from my southern Maine home which was 4 to 5 or more hours away depending upon the unpredictable Maine weather. Get there on New Year’s Eve and get in line very early in the morning. People camped at the entrance overnight to be among the first in line. The closest I ever got to the front was 37th. This was long before the cell phone era and the internet was just beginning to be used. It was worth the hassle to be able to camp in my favorite place at a time when I was able to. BSP is a gem that through hikers only get to see a small part of, although it’s a spectacular part.
Out of the Wilderness and into a cozy attic!🙂 That sure looked like a bald eagle to me at Abol Bridge, with Mount Katahdin in the background. The bald eagle...a symbol of freedom, strength, and courage. May God Bless your upcoming summit day, 5 Stack, with strength, courage, and safety, as you climb that majestic mountain. It's going to be a delight to see your smiling face at that famous sign!
