Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoy this new mini-series "Retro Restoration" For those of you who have already asked, this new style WILL NOT be replacing the old style I've done until now. I'm going to try put together both types of videos for the next few weeks to help get us through these tough times. To be clear, I will still be making the "Fixing Ebay Junk" videos and narrating what I'm doing in addition to these. I'm just hoping between the two series, I can put out more content for everyone. Stay safe everyone!
Thank you for clarifying! I enjoy this style of video, but, I also love your other format! I'm pleased to hear that you will making both! Thanks for your desire to make more content for us during these Covid19 times. I have to ask though; are you familiar with a channel called "Odd Tinkering?" This ASMR style of video really reminds me of his stuff! I love his channel as much as I love your channel!
Good to hear the other format isn't going away. I like to listen to you narrate what you're doing while I'm working on other things, that way I don't have to be glued to the screen but can still learn something. :)
If you are consistent with both styles, I will be so ecstatic! Because I love the other format for information and understanding, yet I love this because ASMR is my jam.
I prefer to have you talking purly becuase I use your videos as background sound while I do other things, plus I like your commentary. I think if you wanted to be helpful for someone looking to repair something you should include some audio.
Nice video bud! It’s an “odd tinkering” vibe, but it’s cool. Personally, I like how you explain your steps. It’s why I watch your channel. You’re knowledgeable. Good luck and keep your videos coming. Thanks!
Keep it up! I know you'll become big one day, just keep uploading and you'll end up reaching whatever goal you wanna accomplish. Hope every one will stay safe out there
Loved it. Sometimes I like exa nations, sometimes you just wanna hear the repairs. Reminds me of home. Dad sitting there all day fixing nes consoles. Thank you.
Nice! If you get a chance, try and pickup a Sega Genesis. They're usually not very expensive, and a lot of great games for that too. I grew up in the early 90s and that was the system I had.
I like the format. It's great. I also expected some polishing of scratches and a final test of functioning. In any case, I enjoyed the video, relaxed by it and got a taste for something like to do at home.
I never thought to turn the screw backwards until I hear a click. Gonna have to do that from now on. I found two model-2 Saturn controllers at a second-hand shop a few days ago for $15 each. I bought both and applied this kind of elbow grease to it. Got them looking... not quite like new, but presentable at the very least.
One of the reason I love watching tech restoration videos is because of the many sounds that are made in the process of taking things apart to putting them back together, tho I also like info on what is being restored. This was a great idea tho. Can't wait for more.
Nice video. What you could do better is the outro. Maybe you could shot a picture of before and after and I think we all want to see you play with it for a second to comfirm its functionality. Keep it up👍
Definitely prefer the narration! Learning how to fix these things needs narration. Love all your other types of videos! We know this is an experiment but too much of an odd tinkering vibe. Love your work! Don't change!
Thanks. I know it's not for everyone, but alot of people have commented on some of my other ones that they do enjoy these kind, so I'm going to try make both styles for a while, see how it goes. It also means I should be able to get out some more content more frequently.
@@RetroRepairs That would be awesome! I really enjoy your videos and they have helped me get my own older consoles back in working order. I have quite a bit of experience with soldering and your videos have given me the knowledge and confidence to get off my butt and re live my childhood.
Very interesting video for a not very current console, here in Europe (less than a 1 million were sold back then) so that's began scarce to find. I missed one for my childhood Sega collection, as i also grew up in the 90's
This won't replace the old "fixing Ebay Junk" videos, I'll still do those and describe what I'm doing, but thought id try mix it up with a second mini series with this style, see how it goes. These are quicker to do and edit, so hopefully i can pump out a couple more a week to give everyone isolating some new content new to watch
Between this new style and my old "Fixing Ebay Junk" videos, I'm hoping to do 2-3 videos a week for the next little while. Give everyone who's stuck at home some new content.
Reminds me of one of those clickbait videos where the guy soaks a zippo in something corrosive then cleans the surface rust back off of it. Magically nothing is ever seized or pitted after all those "years" of neglect.
I don't like odd tinkering videos, and this one reminds me his ones. Please, continue to do only your traditional videos were you talk, explain and do a general commentary, they are awesome
Hi, i found out your channel some days ago, i'm a lot in to stuff like restorations and fixing of old devices and consoles and similiar stuff. I thought your channel would be worth a shot and i was right, pretty good stuff. I was wondering: do you follow Odd Tinkering as well? Seems like this video is pretty close to his style. Don't get me wrong i think there's nothing bad about it since you do your own restoration with your own methods, you surely have good video making potential that is actually coming out. About your methods nothing to say, it's clear you know what you are doing. You're going greate dude, keep it up!
You can use a polish to get rid of some of the really light scratches. Ive used a product called PlastX which works ok, however it could take off the saturn logo. Id rather a nice looking logo and a few scratches than the other way around.
I have a Mega Drive controller, fully working but 2 of the plastic membranes are worn out so I can't push them down correct as they sort of sink in without being springy so useless on fighting games. I do have modern replacement controller so right now Im using it as decoration hung up on wall but would be nice to fix it.
I like the talking in your videos if anything I think you should get a better camera and lighting set up. Props for doing something new though if you enjoy this format keep going!
Some clever dude years ago though that because the expected time to fault on the X Y and Z buttons were similar, it would be more cost-effective and time-saving to hook all three buttons together. Because when one fails, take all three out!
well.. I'm a collector but not this model.. the d pad is .. awful (for me of course ). I'm surprised you didn't take the time to clean also the rubber contacts with alcohol . oh well... as long as it works.... who cares !!!
You have just copied odd tinkering!! You even have the same tool kit, and even down to the water and soap. Cmon, I love you both very much and you two make videos so different from each other this is why I subscribe to both, but you have just "took" his flair and injected it into your videos.
The quietness was very creepy and unsettling. All the noises without any talking made it feel extremely awkward and unnerving. Had to keep fast forwarding through the video. Unfortunately I'm probably going to pass on future videos like this. Looking forward to the regular videos though.
its not how dirty this controller is its what disgusting. Its the fack you not using basic personal protection. Gloves mate, please. I'll pay for them.
I appreciate your videos but your stylized cinematography makes no sense and seems drawn out and slow. You show a long shot of placing your screw driver set and opening it and taking every song piece out. Also showing you drop ever piece we just watched you slowly strip and show every single piece from the controller into the sink is daunting to say the least. You could easily shorten this video and have better content with it shortened. You feel the necessity to do these way to long shots but give no context when you hold the object in our view for to long adding no scrip or speaking. You individually point out 3 of the 6 buttons but not the other 3? Why is that. Obviously these are my opinions but it’s so drawn out. Same is not normally a process of doing a project but one single thing repeated like mushing slime or cutting soap. This seems awkward and unnecessary. Just some input from a viewer.
Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoy this new mini-series "Retro Restoration"

I get a big "Odd Tinkering"-vibe from this video, works pretty well for shorter videos. Cheers and stay safe!
From the ASMR to the watery soap.
And he uses the same Screwdriver set.
yep long one will be quirky :\
I wasn't subbed to this channel and i see this video, i'm like wait? This is odd Tinkering right?
All he needs is a rubber ducky in that tub of water, and he'd be just like Odd Tinkering which I quite like. Calming restoration.
@@DaMu24 ah well... at least he doesn't wear black rubber gloves
I definitely prefer the videos with commentary, this makes me feel like im watching odd tinkerings videos. I hope you dont loose your personal touch.
Indeed... this doesn’t feel RetroRepairs-y. Leave the Odd Tinkering-feel to Odd Tinkering!
It's lose, not loose...ffs.
Imo the videos with more description of whats going on and how the product is being prepared are better. Please dont leave that style behind
Dont worry, i won't.
I always enjoy watching video game-related repair/cleaning videos like these. Great work.
i never thought of rubbing the pads on paper i always just clean them with alcohol
I seriously need to do this to all my retro controllers. good job
Nice video bud! It’s an “odd tinkering” vibe, but it’s cool. Personally, I like how you explain your steps. It’s why I watch your channel. You’re knowledgeable. Good luck and keep your videos coming. Thanks!
Never have I seen such a simple circuit board for such a complex plastic moulding
I need the knowledge as I try to learn the art of repair myself! Odd tinkering feel, but I like it!
You should've used some PlastX on the glossy part, to get rid of the scratches.
This one is so relaxing :) Thank you for posting - TinyTrainTrack
I love these Odd Tinkering vibes I'm getting from this video. You should do more of these.
Nice tool set
👍👍
Lol love the ODD Tinkering style especially the screwdriver set good job
Keep it up! I know you'll become big one day, just keep uploading and you'll end up reaching whatever goal you wanna accomplish. Hope every one will stay safe out there
After watching I realized how much i need to clean my old controllers.
You crushed this video through and through buddy!!!!
Loved it. Sometimes I like exa nations, sometimes you just wanna hear the repairs. Reminds me of home. Dad sitting there all day fixing nes consoles. Thank you.
Soo good! Thank you for this!! I love your normal videos just to relax to but this was absolutely perfect!!
I love these videos... I’m 12 and I have a tiny collection of a snes, nes, n64, and a lot of games. They’re a lot of fun!
Poison Mechy good on you man continue to collect vintage video game stuff I was your age when I started doing the same
Nice! If you get a chance, try and pickup a Sega Genesis. They're usually not very expensive, and a lot of great games for that too. I grew up in the early 90s and that was the system I had.
Cool I’ll look into that

Personally I think i enjoy the voice because it helps me learn abit easier. Also something to listen to when working on projects.
I remember getting this bad boy for my birthday. I think my parents got me Bug and Virtua Fighter to go along with it. Nice video!
It's a nice style of doing videos. Glad you are doing the narrated ones as well in the future, I like them more. But it was fun to watch.
Definitely prefer the narration! Learning how to fix these things needs narration. Love all your other types of videos! We know this is an experiment but too much of an odd tinkering vibe. Love your work! Don't change!
I like this cleaning videos. Thank you.
I had to look and make sure this wasn't odd tinkering for a second. Lol I like videos like this.
I really never liked ASMR videos, but I found this one oddly satisfying. Thanks for the rapid uploads Adam! Keep em coming!
mikkimacdoogle 😂😂😂

either way you want to make your vids is fine with me. I'm just happy to see a saturn controller being worked on.
Very interesting video for a not very current console, here in Europe (less than a 1 million were sold back then) so that's began scarce to find. I missed one for my childhood Sega collection, as i also grew up in the 90's
I can't think of anything to comment, so I'm just gonna say, "GOOD JOB!"
Great video Adam. I think I prefer your other style better.

@@RetroRepairs I religiously watch every video you put out.
If i could offer feedback, I really do like the intro music. I hope you keep it.
I will on the other ones. I thought it was kind of out of place for this style, but im going to think of other ways to tweak the intro.
Oh yeah, that was really good. Time for a nap
Reminds me of Odd Tinkering.
Me too! I love that channel almost as much as I love Retro Repairs 🙂
Looks very similar odd tinkering but great work👍
Reminds me of one of those clickbait videos where the guy soaks a zippo in something corrosive then cleans the surface rust back off of it. Magically nothing is ever seized or pitted after all those "years" of neglect.
I like it better when you talk. This just made me sleepy.
Be very careful using hot water. Hot water can warp certain plastics and they will not fit back together again correctly.
Love it! 👍🤘
I don't like odd tinkering videos, and this one reminds me his ones. Please, continue to do only your traditional videos were you talk, explain and do a general commentary, they are awesome
The ASMR format was interesting but it doesn't do it for me. Still, keep up the good work!
A mail day episode would be nice, how's the Repair Dog BTW?
Repair dog's doing great. Unfortunately won't be a mail day until they reopen the border. Shipping to Canada is prohibitively expensive
@@RetroRepairs Thanks for the quick reply, glad Kona is doing well. Looking forward to the next episode!
No more swinging camera, nice. :) also congrats on the growth man, still watching since then
Some plastic polisher would help with those scratches! I use it all the time
I seen videos where people use plastx to get rid of the scratches on various controllers, consoles and sometimes on discs.
i love those saturn first controllers much more than second revision ones, Yours is battle damage version ! .-)
I clean all my used consoles and controllers that I get thoroughly before I use them.
Hi, i found out your channel some days ago, i'm a lot in to stuff like restorations and fixing of old devices and consoles and similiar stuff. I thought your channel would be worth a shot and i was right, pretty good stuff.

Good job with this video .. hope to see u clean 1 ps1 next time
Oddly enough, that was my next task
Try using Vaseline to polish the plastic before the assembly. you will be plesentely surprised.
I wish there was a way to fix scratches in plastic parts. Good video though!
You can use a polish to get rid of some of the really light scratches. Ive used a product called PlastX which works ok, however it could take off the saturn logo. Id rather a nice looking logo and a few scratches than the other way around.
Great video as always... may i ask what ever happened to the sharp twin famicom system? Was it just a writeoff? Keep up the good vids Adam.
Loved the new format,But missed your introduction style and the way you say isopropyl alcohol
OHHHHHHH!!! The shout out to Odd Tinkering Channel!!!!
I have a Mega Drive controller, fully working but 2 of the plastic membranes are worn out so I can't push them down correct as they sort of sink in without being springy so useless on fighting games. I do have modern replacement controller so right now Im using it as decoration hung up on wall but would be nice to fix it.
You can buy replacement membranes on ebay. They're fairly inexpensive and easy to swap
A Model 1 Sega Saturn Controller. Interesting.
Not a fan of this style. But I enjoy watching your series.
Cool! Will these videos also include retrobriting?
Sometimes they will as necessary
I like the talking in your videos if anything I think you should get a better camera and lighting set up. Props for doing something new though if you enjoy this format keep going!
أنا مشترك جديد من العراق واحب اعمالك الرائعة
Out of curiosity - which camera and lens do you use?
Usually just my cell phone. The new Samsunga have a very good camera that I can't justify spending on a better one.
Sorry i don't get videos like this. Missing something without talking
How does one get ahold of you to find out about a repair?
Dude we need to have the intro music :(
I felt it would have been out of place for this video style, but don't worry, it'll still be in my Fixing Ebay Junk videos
Hush, no music. I want my ears to tingle.
Aqua Jet 😂
I did so meny times with my ps2 controllers
Is this odd tinkering ? :p Its very very relaxing tho
Where can I get that nut driving kit?
You trying to be like Odd Tinkering or something 😏
Why the Odd Tinkering rip-off?
That screwdriver kid looks familiar...
I actually just ordered it a couple weeks ago, felt it was time to upgrade freon what I was using
prefer your old style better good fix though
What does ASMR mean?
My only disappointment with this video is no Kona and no Adam!
That original Saturn controller was over engineered to say the least.
Yep, waay too many parts for a fairly simple controller. Glad they changed it for the model 2 version
Some clever dude years ago though that because the expected time to fault on the X Y and Z buttons were similar, it would be more cost-effective and time-saving to hook all three buttons together. Because when one fails, take all three out!
Where is the plastic polish? D=

Nice vid. I have tried a couple different things on my channel also. If you get a chance check it out. Look forward to the next vid.
no testing, no fun lol

oh god, this is just cleaning video, not restoration.

Anyway if you interest in opinion its been more interesting to listen you.
its not how dirty this controller is its what disgusting. Its the fack you not using basic personal protection. Gloves mate, please. I'll pay for them.
Are you losing your voice? XD
please don’t do ASMR anymore cuz it gives me anxiety
