This is so very good! Particularly the Julia Doyle and Alex Potter duet; but so many other performers are also wonderful. This would be a great performance to use to introduce someone to the joys of Bach.
Brilliant and joyful! Brilliant, the way that Bach weaves what might have been a perfectly wonderful instrumental ensemble work in and around a wonderfully arranged Lutheran chorale hymn, either of which could have stood well on their own. The same can be said for his other chorale cantatas. Joyful, too, as can be seen on the faces of the conductor and the musicians, especially the concertmistress on the violin. They all are "in the zone," but especially her.
Bachstiftung Bravo !!!!!!

A top-notch cantata, new to me. Many thanks. I thought this was a particularly fine performance, as it was suffused by joy throughout. The sheer beauty of sound in the opening chorus was full of delight. Horrible libretto though; full of fall and inescapable depravity and the need for rescue nothing about our status as Sons. Thank you for the English translation all the same.

The violin soloist for the tenor aria is recognizable as the eminent Baroque violinist Amandine Beyer. She must have been visiting Switzerland for the session, and should be mentioned prominently in the credits.
She may be recognizable to you "as the eminent Baroque violinist Amandine Beyer," but I never heard of her. So how recognizable could she be? I'm joking. Even though I never heard of her, her talent is evident from this performance.
the list of the interpreters is available on the webpage of the Bachstiftung (and indeed she's marked as "special guest", and she also has a dedicated video on her "reflections" on this cantata), and it's customary that only the singers and conductor are indicated in the TH-cam page. Mentioning just Beyer in this occasion just because she's a renowned name would not be a nice gesture towards the other excellent musicians who have played for this series.
Actually she studied at the scuola in Basel where she must have met Herr Lutz as a student plus she now teaches there too so I imagine their musical friendship made her an ideal guest leader. She’s the best baroque violin teacher in Switzerland.
Isn't it the wonderful Amandine Beyer playing the 1st violin ? She has recorded the best version I know so far of Bach's partitas and sonatas for solo violin !

Wonderful as always but for my taste, "wir waren schon" aria should be a lot slower. It is a depressive setting and has to sink our soul and mood to ground. This rendition stimulates me and bares too much energy.
