Thank you I found this very helpful. Can I ask why students were asked to underline specific words?

I would counter the “righteous indignation” argument with asking a person for a Biblical example of human anger that is edifying or full of grace. I’m not sure there is one.

    1 Peter 3:18-19
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. 19 After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits.
    Who are these imprisoned spirits?

Finally something I will completely disagree. LOL. (Not until Ephesians). I’ll agree Luke 16 is a parable. Let’s continue, plz explain (1 Peter 3:19-20, Mt 12:40, 2 Peter 2:4-5, 1 Peter 4:6, Luke 8:30-31, Jude 6 of course, Rev 20:1-3,7) PLUS 2nd temple literature everywhere (Damascus Document 4Q266, 3 Maccabees 2:4, Testaments Reuben, Solomon, Naphtali, 2 & 3 Baruch, Wisdom 14:6, Judith 16:6, Genesis Apocryphon 2:1, Enoch of course, Sirach 16:7, Jubilees 4:15,22. They ALL are in agreement to support this mystical/supernatural view of Ep 4:8-9. Gé in that sentence #1093 is never ‘universe’ and it’s used over a hundred times.
Your interpretation is built off ‘lower regions of earth’ being something other than earth/land and without that, it falls apart. I feel like you did eisegesis with that, not exegesis. Love Randall Smith

To add- Philippians 2:10. “in heaven and on earth and under the earth”
There are two different words here so it’s not as black and white as English would make it appear. knees bowing on earth and in the world sounds weird. ‘kata’ is down from, chthón is earth. Not sure how else to translate ‘katachthonios’. epi= on; gé= earth. Not sure why Paul uses different roots for earth here.

Add Rev 5:3 where’s its even more clear, imo with only it being a ‘saying’ as an explanation. Added with places like Tartarus and Sheol, which Paul & John would be well aware of, I wouldn’t think they would be this careless. Now to say spirits in prison bow to their knees while they’re forever punished is saying something. Obviously the spiritual world has physics that can not be understood. Whether voluntary or not ‘every knee will bow’
