Initially, I was reluctant to accept the sudden shift of "Prairie Home Companion" (which I listened to for over a decade) to "Live from Here" when it occurred in 2016. Over time I've come to realize that Chris Thile's talent is immense and dynamic and he has become, in my humble opinion, a true national treasure in American music. I caught this episode while driving home on a warm, fall day with the top down and could not wait to find this recording to re-listen. I have been re-living all three pieces every single day since and I'm just awestruck at the beauty, intensity, and craftsmanship of this presentation by all who made it possible, especially Chris and Aoife.
I had never heard of a French Art Song before but upon research, have even greater appreciation for Aoife's voice and heartfelt expression. This song and her voice now haunt my mid-winter mornings and I begin my day with an intense dose of beauty because of it!
Chris Thily's approach to Jeff Buckley's "Grace" is indeed a technicolor explosion of music (as Chris described Jeff's work himself) and I was (and still am, every damned day) absolutely awestruck with Chris' emotive interpretation and range of voice on this piece. I've appreciated Jeff Buckley's music for a very long time and feel certain Jeff would have greatly appreciated this tribute.
And lastly, I've never teared up over Bjork's "Hyperballad" even though I have felt overwhelmed by it for decades, but I was rendered helpless when hearing this recording in full, reference-level volume. Aoife (and Bjork by extension) has left me a crumpled, sobbing mass upon the floor.

That reimagining of Hyperballad had me feeling it again as if for the first time.

I started listening to Nickel Creek in the year 2000. I was thrilled, like everyone else. I saw the Punch Brothers play live in Ann Arbor. Obviously, I'm a big fan. Realizing that Chris Thile is extraordinarily talented, I've never heard him sing as soulful as he did on the Jeff Buckley tune, Grace. Well done, friend. On a much more superficial note... Aoifa, that skirt, oh please girl!

If Pat Metheny could play a mandolin and sing, he would be Chris Thile. But instead, he's just Pat Metheny. The musical chops of the Live From Here band are so very impressive; the amount of FUN they have performing the music is unparalleled.

I miss this show so much! This version of Bjork’s Hyperballad is a masterpiece! Her version is full of electronica. The instrumentation here is luscious!

Aoife could sing the Toledo phone book (if that still exists) and it would be fine with me.
