    hello angrypom , I want to apply 2D/3D wind load on an inclined panel 30° (shell structure) a load of region 3 with P=0.544 KPa(kN/m²) (site : exposed, type : extreme) wind direction 180+ and 0+. I only have Z direction load but the force is perpendicular to the face of the panel (then forces are on both X and Z directions) if I display axis on the panel ( I will find the Z direction is perpendicular to the face of the panel ) so could I display forces in a global axis where I could find PY and PZ Value? could I change axis direction? PX and PZ forces will be modified by a frictional coefficient?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Mate,
    Really appreciate your videos and your way. I am a structural engineer too working in Perth and i have one question regarding the manual load combination please.
    when you were entering the services ones after G+Q at combination 22 you kept them from there all like strength and not service, and why you did not use directly the automatic combination since it is as per AS/NZS 1170.0?
    if I could ask mate, you are the only one here in Australia talking about Robot as per our AS, so why you do not keep doing such great videos like this one but instead of steel columns there is concrete panel as most typical warehouse here in Australia, or some concrete examples, will be great.
    if you are still in Perth may I have your contact since I started doing my own engineering business apart from my normal work in the tilting up design.
    Thanks again.

    Thanks for the valuable video tutorial . I would like to assign design parameters for columns in a 11m high warehouse steel building. The walls are made of concrete masonry over all the height.
    Is it correct to discard buckling and lateral buckling while designing columns. I perform design only for resistance. Any video tutorial for trusses with emphasis on design parameters.

    Gday angrypom, great well structured video mate, thanks,
    i have a question please; when you've applied the SLS wind speed simulation , you have kept the "opening are assumed to be closed " option ticked, wouldn't we consider the worst case and also the most common case for serviceability by assuming these opening not shut to allow for internal/external pressure combinations?
    thanks.

    Can you tell me the required codes and standards that you consider for portal designing?
    Thanks

    • @p0m91
      @p0m91  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be dependent on the location of the project and the local regulations. I am based in Australia where the National Construction Code specifies that steel buildings are to be designed to Australian Standards (AS/NZS 1170, AS 4100, etc...), whereas engineers in Europe will design to the Eurocodes.

    Thanks for the useful tutorial. I'm a new user for RSA and I noticed that when I add a load type the default analysis type generated for it come as (nonlinear-static) instead of (linear-static) and even if i tried to change that it doesn't change, noting that the license I have is an educational one. so I wondering if their something in the sitting dominate the type of the analysis and prevent changing it or it is a limitation on only my software copy that it can't change the analysis type because it is only an educational license.

    • @p0m91
      @p0m91  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Certain conditions in a structure can only be analysed by a non-linear method. For example a compression/tension only bar or a uniaxial support.

    when you are defining the buckling parameters, why are the columns lenght equal with the rafters lenght (7.50)?

    • @-snkssd-
      @-snkssd- 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      exactly, but when you are defining the rafter design parameters, at the lateral buckling appears the lenght 7,50, and when you are setting the buckling parameteres for the columns, the same 7,50 lenght appears, despite the lenght differences between the rafters and the columns

  • @thaispereira2863
    @thaispereira2863 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    When you created the bracings as tension-only bars, you introduced a non-linearity in the model, making Robot automatically switch to non-linear analysis (all load cases automatically become non-linear). And then you created combinations of these non-linear load cases. How can this be if only linear load cases can be combined through the superposition principle?

    • @thaispereira2863
      @thaispereira2863 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@p0m91 I believe Robot does the combinations as post-processing only, which means it only adds the effects of the load cases, each multiplied by a safety factor, which would invalidate this calculation. If you try to do "Loads > Automatic Combinations" (code combinations), they only appear AFTER the simple load cases have been analysed.

      The panels are loaded only in their local z-direction, that is to say perpendicular to their face. The distribution of the uniform panel actions is linearly distributed to the bars - the lateral direction of a bar is the y-axis and the vertical is the z-axis so of course these are the only loaded directions as it is perpendicular to these axes that the panels are supported.
