It is a bit misleading to say that Footscray "No longer exists". At most it was just a trading name change to Western Bulldogs. Plus Footscray is in the Western Suburbs, so in real terms it is still the same geographical area.
@@Seal-hs5il the club is officially called The Footscray Football Club Trading As The Western Bulldogs and wear a FFC logo on their jumper. They also played a game this year under the name Footscray to commemorate the 70th anniversary of their first VFL premiership.
Love seeing the footage off the 70's and 80s, even on waterlogged grounds the game was so open and free flowing compared to the current defensive clog ups where aa full forward who averages two goals a game is considered a gun. Not suggesting the players were better just the game was better to watch.
Why are you showing footage of Melbourne's pre-season training and a photo of an old Melbourne side featuring Norm Smith when discussing the defunct University football club? The footage doesn't match the voiceover and makes no sense whatsoever.
Mergers, Relocations, Slight name changes are 4 out of the 5. The one that really doesn't exist outside of the Metro Division Leagues is the University (of Melbourne) Football Club.
Great video, but Bernie Quinlan and Gary Wilson played for Fitzroy in the 70’s & 80’s. Hayden Brunton Sr was their absolute star in their pre war powerhouse days. Triple Brownlow medallist, and original Hall of Fame Legend. Allen Ruthven and Wilfred “Chicken” Smallhorn two other notable stars of the 30’s-50’s. just clarifying, but amazing video as always.
Will give you University and on a technicality Fitzroy and the Bears, although they do exist as the merged entity Brisbane Bears-Fitzroy Football Club (Yes, that is the full name of the club). On the other hand the other two teams still exist, just one is a rebranding, the other a relocation, but they are still the same clubs
Exactly, they still exist. Apart from university, you can easily see Bears, Fitzroy, Footscray and South Melbourne all represented throughout a home and away season. Look at the back of the guernsey for Brisbane Lions and they have BBFFC, Western Bulldogs have FFC and Sydney Swans have SMFC. All representing the clubs history, whether they have merged, changed their name or relocated.
Correction 3 teams don't exist in AFL university of melbourne don't exist no more and Fitzroy lions and Brisbane bears 🐨 to form a merger of Brisbane lions and fitzroy lions dissolved to merge with brisbane bears 🐨 and relocated to brisbane and not represent fitzroy in melbourne no more brisbane bears 🐨 took fitzroy lions look footscray is western bulldogs they didnt defunct and south melbourne football 🏈 club became sydney swans through relocation to sydney they didnt defunct vut they had financial issues in the 80s to relocate to sydney or merge with st kilda in the early 90s they had financial issues and nearly defunct back when the deal 🤝 for a tasmania team was happening to exist to replace sydney swans that were 9 million in debt melbourne and hawthorn dying out didnt happen financially to form a merger of melbourne hawks that didnt happen when melbourne and Hawthorne struggled financially because people opposed the idea 💡 and melbourne wanted hawthorn dead and for there recruiting i know a lot about future teams in afl just as much as nrl and super league in england
All they did, was changed their name. That's not even a major rebrand. The name thing happened when North Melbourne originally changed their name to "Kangaroos" in 1999, but changed it back to their original name in 2008.
brisbane lions since they started have had a great dynasty and have been very competitive, don’t think sydney have the best of brisbane especially this year
Fitzroy technically still exists as its own entity, keeping the history of the former VFL side. They currently play in the VAFA! 👍
The Fitzroy Stars i think they're called
@@heathRocco Fitzroy Reds
@redthezz Ohh my bad. I do know theres a Fitzroy Stars football club which is an Aboriginal based Melbourne football team.
@@heathRoccothe Fitzroy reds play in the vafa league and they call themselves Fitzroy football club incorporating the reds
The Brisbane Lions official corporate name is “Brisbane Bears-Fitzroy Football Club Ltd”. So in a way the Fitzroy Football Club is still in existence.

@ agree 100%. Western Bulldogs is just a trading name.
Fitzroy brownlow medelist Kevin Murray lives down my road
Your title had me scratching my head wondering who apart from the Bears and Lions ceased to exist after the AFL was established
Fun fact about Fitzroy they are the only club in history to win both the wooden spoon and the premiership in the same year in 1916
South Melbourne & the Swans are the same club…
Saying they’re different is incredibly ignorant.
Remember when the North Melbourne Kangaroos were just the North Kangaroos for just 9 seasons?

Look at the back of the jersey near the collar for the "lions" still has or had BBFC

Footscray do stil exist they just became the western bulldogs
True, they are still named Footscray officially. Western Bulldogs is just a marketing name.

Id count North Melbourne aswell
University merged with Melbourne
Correct. In 1914
All 5 clubs still exist.
