    I applied pot soil in my aquarium 35 years ago. The plants were growing like rockets! Echinodorus grew strong and high, up to 2 feet (60 cm) in no time. Never seen such a result with all the expensive commercial products. Just a layer of pot soil covered with small sized grit. I also installed a pump for circulation and a dry bio filter.

    Gotta love your jungle, seriously. It's probably one thr only few ecologically balanced dirted tanks out there. Minimal to none algae issues. Fish are healthy. And the plants are displaying sturdy growth, not leggy (signs of deficiencies) at all. Kudos! 👍👍

    I have to wonder how many people think this tank is just an overgrown mess.
    I think it looks more like a section of natural lake-bottom than any other tank I’ve ever seen on TH-cam.
    It’s beautiful and fascinating, unlike every high-tech tank you ever see with their incessantly manicured rainbow-colored plants. They all look like they were designed by the prop people at Disneyland. 🧜🏻‍♀️🎵Under dah sea...🎶🦀🙄

      This same reason is why I’ve got 2 10gals. Bought only a few plants in the first one, grew it out and propagated for about 6 months, then set up a second with only a few new plants and the excess from the original tank. In another 6 months to a year I hope to get a much bigger tank to plant as densely as op’s. Method requires patience but it’s cheap!

    A couple questions about this tank:
    -how many gallons per hour of filtration did you have?
    -Initially, after how much time did you add fish?
    -Lighting? Watts? Time on?
    -Did you run into any algae probs? If so how did you fix?
    -What is your clean up crew in the tank?
    -How many times a week do you feed your fish?
    It would help me VERY much if you answered these Qs pls!

      1. At the bgining there were normal sponch filter, I dot remember houve much l/h it wos. Naue there is tetra ex 800 plus.
      2. I add them right after follting, I put there old filter sponches.
      3. I always light up my tanks hesam, 10H each day.
      4. I dodnt have any alge problems exept gree alge on glas, i skrech them with blade.
      5. I got there only snails.
      6. I feed them 5 days a week. When is feeding day I give them food twice a day. From time to time I give them more nutritious food, made with myself and after such food they have 2 days of fasting.

      Ok the Tetra Ex 800 is 800 liters/hour.
      Your tank is 100 liters right? So you filtering 8 times the tanks volume. Cool.
      What lights do you use? LED? How many watts? What is Hesam?
      Are those mystery snails you have?
      What food do you make? Do you have a video?

    Too much fish in that environment. The number should be reduced. I think adding exotic shrimps would help to maintain the tank cleaning. They eat algae and keeps it clean. Give these fish to another tank owner who has same species and a huge tank or to a new ones. And add some pigmy gouramis or like some small size species of gouramis. And the drift wood would be lovely. That tank will be so cool.

    Hi .. This is such a wonderful view.. Few queries plz .. With so many plants , the co2 level in water will be high. How to solve that? If Oxygen machine is put, wont that disturbe the plant growth?

    How do you clean it and how often ? Do you take out the entire set up, clean and then reassemble ?

      soil works great.
      The problem with soil is there is no moving around plants, like I can with my Flourite clay. I can pull up a plant, shake it a little, and move it where I want. Not happening with soil. You pull up that plant, and you have a muddy mess on your hands.

    • @FEARNL83
      @FEARNL83 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      AuSZhao 1 huge disadvantage is that soil will begin to rot eventually. Which will begin to produce toxic gasses in a later stage. Doing a aquarium with soil is something from the old days of aqua ruin keeping. Better to use a layer of clay, the best with the most nutrients would be French red clay.
      But apart from the soil pretty nice aquarium. Could u do a part 2, say after 1600 days. You've got my interest.

      Sounds like you guys haven't used soil..It works great and lasts forever! You can move plants, you just have to let the dirt settle and you're good. The best thing is you can get the dirt and gravel from Menards or wherever for less than ten bucks.. Beats ~$50 from the pet store! Unless you like throwing away money ;p

      yes it begins to rot and decompose but this is good for plants it gives them more nutrients from the breakdown of the organic matter that is why you should use organic soil not fertilized

    Did you do any maintenance on the tank during the 800 days other than fertilizing? Did you trim the plants at all or add/take out fish?

    how to treat the plants and soil to make them free from bacteria before adding to aquarium?

      You can make them short-term bath in a delicate solution of KMnO4. You can buy it in any drugstore.

      You can bake the soil in the oven at about 200 degrees Celsius.

    I can GUARANTEE you those fish are better off overcrowded there, then they are in small groups or being alone in a tank with little to none real plants. the add some shrimp and i doubt the waste would build up in the slightest

    And how long your photo period per day?

    I did a dirted tank with potting mix about 7 months ago, at first plants were doing well but now I think there is no more nutrients and plants doing bad. so do I need to supplement fertilisers into the water?

    • @homeaquarium2180

      The problem of lack of nitrogen happens very often in the vegetable aquarium. Probably add fertilizers and check, but I would advise to feed them slowly so that no other problems arise. In the aquarium the effects of our work can be seen only after 2-3 weeks.

      @homeaquarium2180  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My plants olomust never have bubles. Bubles arę maked only when plant have a lot of light. Dont wory about that. Whach my other movies and look there for mor clues. And about bubles on surface its normal, on Waters there is olways some dust that's why it makes bubles on surface.

    • @homeaquarium2180
      @homeaquarium2180  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I try not to give anything. This is usually done thanks to the right amount of light, fish, food and garden soil. However, if I have to give something, these are just the basic elements needed for plant life nitrogen, potassium phosphorus. Keeping the right proportions between them.
