  • Dino’s Tinker Shed, S3 Ep36 How to replace carbide runners on Pilot TS skis.
Today I walk you through changing worn out carbide runners on the Ski Doo Pilot TS skis. These runners are unlike traditional runners in the way they get changed but it is an easy project for most home mechanics. I upgraded from the stock 5 inch 90 degree carbide to a 7 inch 60 degree carbide to help in cornering, overall I really like these skis and think that the adjustability is something most people would appreciate if they tried them out.
As always, I have included time codes so you can skip around.
    00:00- Cold opening
    00:49- Intro
    01:11- TS ski overview
    04:01- What do carbides do?
    06:20- Changing the runners.
    13:51- Testing the function
    14:09- Summary

I'm happy to see it sled maintenance time in the shed. May want to look into wheels for the skies for those dry pavement days. The legend has a set and work great. Just lift the ski wheels, come down to drive on pavement, and pop back up when hit the snow. I just purchased a pair for my new sled. I can send a picture of the box

Hey my friend, I happy to see your comment. Maybe we can actually ride together this year, maybe a Ralph tribute ride on the south boulevard 😉. Yes please send me a pic of the wheels.

I have not been on a snowmobile but it looks very interesting - bit like motorcycling. All the best for 2024 Dino. I look forward to your 2024 videos. Thankyou. Mal.

Thank you for the comment Mal, I think you would love sledding, it's not unlike a motorcycle but really is a different experience.

They are fun, I just wish our snow here was more reliable. the last few seasons have been less than stellar.

Love your video. Straight forward and to the point. I have used the skis the past three seasons. They came on my 2022 enduro. I originally thought they were a joke, but have come like the idea of being able to stop and adjust them to the trail conditions. I had a pair of C & A skis on an MXZ I had. Those skis were good, but I like the skis on my Enduro better.

I have some, and still in the works of getting used to them, what setting with what conditions, and setting up suspension, but do like them. I like the idea, and they do change how it handles. I haven't had to change them yet, but soon. I don't like the price, no. But, they're lasting well, I think.

Very nice job on the video Dino! I had them on 2016 Ski-Doo Blizzard 600 and absolutely loved them. I would have ordered them when I got my 2022 Renegade XRS 850 with smart shox but it would not allow me to order Pilot TS skis and Smart Shox together. Not sure why but now I find myself needing new carbide skegs just after 2400 miles. I ran the Pilot TS original carbides on my Blizzard until I sold the sled with 4800 miles on it.

Thanks Dino. We got about 6 inches of snow here between yesterday evening and this morning but it's the wet heavy snow and nothing is frozen. It's also supposed to warm up in a couple of days so it's all going to melt I guess all we can do is wait and keep our fingers crossed that El Nino decides to bring some cold air our way for a while.

The ski's are narrow and don't have great floatation in deep powder. They are not great for aggressive riders especially if your heavily studded. That said, for people without a lot of studs doing trail riding they seem to work pretty good from the people I talked to that use them. They were all using the 1/4 inch deeper carbides that are 7 inches long. The only problem was they did say the odd time they would forget to drop them after unloading and be surprised on the first corner when the sled couldn't steer.

Great comments thank you. For sure these are for trails for the reasons you mention. I did not mind the 5 inch and am looking forward to trying the 7, if we ever get snow lol. Thanks again

@@DinosTinkerShedDid get about an inch overnight here in Bancroft. Real cold this morning so the lakes should freeze solid again. I think I had three feet of the white stuff by this time last year. Keep your fingers crossed 🤞

Dino, my 2019 enduro 900T darts like crazy. What do i do? Does the longer 7" carbide help?

    • @DinosTinkerShed
      @DinosTinkerShed  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thank you for the question, I have yet to ride mine this season with the new 7 inch carbide so I can't say for sure what the difference will be. Like all skis the ts will dart depending on trail conditions, but I have found that taking some time to dial in the skeg depth can improve this to a point. I am anticipating a bit better cornering performance, especially in icy conditions with the 7 inch but the fact they are still the same skeg length overall may not improve darting. But I will let you know if this change improves the handling.
      Hope this helps.
