I love the idea of a patreon! Great way for patrons to support your channel and provide a few less scripted moments for the superfans like us!! I say do it - many channels do, and it's not begging at all. It's allowing us to support you which in turns provides us with more valuable content that you just can't get elsewhere!
I just finished my 18000km trip around Australia on my old 1996 DR. Great trip too it was Dino. Most of it was super remote. I had one carb issue about 500km from the nearest bike shop. The bike just died. Thanks to watching your carb video a few times over the past year I disassembled it on the side of the road and worked out the circlip had come off the needle. I'm so happy I didn't lose it in the bulldust. You saved the day!!!!! The term adventure bike is so overused nowadays. I consider the DR more of an expedition bike. You can take it anywhere. Fix it anywhere. Pick it up when it falls over in the middle of a river crossing . It's just the best bike in my eyes for this sort of fun.
Wow, what a great trip! I'm glad you had a great time and that I was able to help out with some related content. Sounds like you have some interesting story's to tell. I would love to hear them Dino
Hi Dino, The idea of having a Patreon is worth much more than you've might think of. I personally adore the possibility of helping people I like to do "da stuff". Your entire series on the DR itself alone is worth of subscribing. Especially with all the detail you provide and advice you give. For a random person it's not a big burden to sneak in a dollar or two. And in quantity we can make you life a bit easier, while getting The Content. Anyway, enough me talking and a big thanks for your work!
@@DinosTinkerShed I would 100% contribute if you had a Patreon, your video on the procycle jet kit made the job a breeze and would never had the guts to take it on otherwise!
Hi Dino I think a monthly charge is Bloody more than fair if people are are really keen DR650 riders you have a FANTASTIC channel from the land down under 👍
That looks like a very interesting project! Lots of DR owners out there it may be a hot selling plan for others. I cant wait to see it all finished. I am always out on my DR year round. Had to clean salt off of it this week. Keep up the great work ! I always look forward to your videos!
It's going to be interesting to see the dr650 dashboard finished , looking forward to this!🎉 . I would pay for the file to print the dashboard Dino , it would definitely be worth every cent, cheers.
Dino, I see that you don’t get as many views as you deserve for all the work you put into these videos! I’m an avid 3D printer so I’d like to share some design tips, although I’m not much of a designer myself. I’m my printing group, we use a lot of heat-set threaded inserts to hold stuff together and it works very well! Trust me, it has been tested on many legally printed firearms and preformed perfectly (gotta love the states, lol). This tip may not be usful for this current version, but I can see this project becoming something blossoming into a sleek and beautiful yet functional design for the DR650 DIYer community down the line with a V2, V3 and so on. Never stop, love the channel
I am happy to do some early prototyping with your existing design as it stands now, and pay for the privilege. I have a printer so im also happy to print stuff for you if needed
Dino this is such a cool design. I would really like to have a go at modifying your design for my DRZ400E. Do you have an idea of the timeframe before you are going to make the file available? I have no problem paying a one-off fee or the Patreon thing. I was hoping to start something printing in the next week or so?
Hi Dino, great channel one of the best for dr.. About money or patrion or cover the development costs.. this is very depend on many aspects start from your side as a seller/developer finish by buyer/dr owner .. You can make it 50/50 , share for free 2d simple draw with sizes and 3d with all files requred to print in 3d printer and/or solid works files. Im think it will be fair for both sides ... But the last word OF COURSE - YOURS.
Greetings from Alberta Dino!. I have not done anything to my DR650 unfortunately. I picked up a CanAm 350 ASE if you know what that is, so I have been working on it for some woods riding this summer.
Hi Dino, if someone wanted this dash I think a one-off fee would be best and is only fair. Think that is better approach then a monthly patreon. I wonder if you could drop a think pin through the joints to strenghten up the end product (like a pin on a hinge), rather than just relying upon an adhesive?
Thank you for the feedback and the tip. A bicycle spoke might work well for that, great idea, still lots of trial work to do yet so room for improvement for sure. Dino
For the type of adhesive you want to use it depends on what the material is. I would highly recommend ASA which if I remember right you should be able to glue with just the ABS glue that you would get at the hardware store for sewage pipe. For PLA I have used just super glue before, but I'm not sure how that would hold up with all the vibrations. I usually try to avoid using glue at all when I make anything and design it so that it all bolts together
@@DinosTinkerShed also for materials I will add that ABS/ ASA can be difficult to print large flat pieces like you have, so PETG is another good material for functional parts and is pretty easy to print, but once again I've never actually tried gluing any PETG myself but super glue is supposed to work pretty well
I think patreon, selling the dash design and selling the finished kit are 3 different things. Selling the dash design file at least gets the design concept out there and tested, and gets you a few bucks. Nothing stops someone joining patreon for 1 month, getting the file then cancelling, althought this might be an easy way to sell it. Think about what a patreon member might get thats seperate to a free subscriber. Although having said that i contribute to a pateon account simply because i want to support the channel.. keep it up Dino 😊
que paso con este proyecto_? creo que somos muchos los que estamos esperando e interesados y dispuestos a pagar por el plano por el esfuerzo que has tenido Dino
Some disclaimers: A) I don’t own a dr 650 (yet) B) I don’t know how other people would feel about it C) I’m not that well versed about how much it should cost this way or the other Still there? Great! I personally don’t like the idea of a patreon since it is kind of a subscription model and I passionately hate any of them. HOWEVER, I do think you and the channel definitely deserve to make some kind of profit of it. So I would think the best way of going about this would be just straight selling it for a price fair for you and people interested. As a few other commentators suggested it might even make sense selling finished prints (if it generates a decent profit / effort ratio for you)
Are you printing that at 100% infill? 8 hours for panel seems pretty long, I'm definitely no material scientist or engineer, but if I was designing something like that myself I would probably do five perimeter walls and then maybe 50% infill? Also, while this may not be an option since you are just borrowing a friend's printer but another thing to look into would be using a 0.6 mm nozzle to dramatically speed up the printing process.
Thanks for the info, I am pretty sure it is not 100 percent infill, again I really do not have any experience with the printing process, I just know what he has told me. I am toting with purchasing a used u it just to play with but I really don't need another hobby lol. Thanks again for the input. Dino
@@DinosTinkerShed ya I get that, I've designed a few things for both my DR and mtb that took up multiple perfectly good days I could have been out riding. Right now though since I just started riding this summer on the road I have no desire to attempt riding in the rain yet so if you'd like another set of eyes on the project for fitment or suggestions I'm itching for a new project and I just got in a couple new rolls of filament I'd be more than happy to contribute to the cause.
$$ for design? no problem. I did have to look up Patreon; I'm in IT and I can't keep up with this stuff. That's why I got the bike; to get away from IT.

Very cool concept, Dino! Patreon seems like a great idea. You put a lot of effort into these videos, helping to offset the cost is totally reasonable.
Nothing wrong with getting a return on your time & toil Dino. You have earned it.
