Don't be afraid to polish some of these surfaces with grinding and buffing compound. It's a good way to knock down imperceptibly high points on things that have to fit together.
I think that inside cleanup would be a good case for mounting a cutting tool to the lathe spindle. Anyhow, excellent example of making parts other than round on a lathe. It'd think that you could have saved yourself a bit of scraping time on the insert by putting it back in the lathe and shimming one end out about 0.020".

I need a small shaper for internal gear teeth and cutting internal keyways... this project will help me design a steel version. Now is it me or did you not seem as excited as you usually are? I get the feeling you were not into making this video, no where near as much voice overs, seemed a bit irritated.
Voice overs add quite a bit to the overall time to produce. I am trying to streamline the editing process by doing periodic "voice overs" during the build. Sorry it seemed like I wasn't into the video. Work has been disjointed recently settling into a new shop. We moved and it has taken a while to get the shop workable.
I can see that you have new tools. Did you make that new vise (the one for drilling tube, made from aluminium i think) to your drill press. I think it's time to a shop tour. ;)
The way to fix your house is to sister (nail alongside) new studs and joist to the other ones. Must fumigate first to kill all bugs. After you sister your new wood you can cut off the rot with a sawzall of the old wood. If the studs are bad than you will have to either tear off the out sheeting or the inside sheetrock to get the full height studs in. fix one side of the house at a time so that the walls will not rack out of plumb. The rotted rim joist and and sill plate will have to be removed and replace. You may also have to jack up house where joist are rotted, enough to fit in and remove new material. Or write off the 20,000 and find a house that is not rotted.Sure it's not easy and it is dirty work but in the end you have a livable house. You also took advantage of your neighbor because he was helping you, because he thought you would fix house.

sanding does not take off material evenly, the very act of dragging the part over the sanding surface results in tilting of the object towards the direction of movement. This results in a part with a high center and low ends.
Need advice, ask me.. I have done many. I had the same problems but worse. Just take one step at a time, and work as hard as you are on non paying projects. In the end, the money you put it to the materials fixing it will be like money in the bank. If your not sure how to fix something start slow.Do one joist or stud at a time. Once you figure it out, find a cheap labor to do all the demo, the crawling, the carrying of materials and so on. Pay by the day cash, so if the next day you do not need him he is payed off. Find a labor that works hard. You must live breath and sleep,, and plan until done.

using the 123 block to print the clapper box is vastly more accurate than Dave's way. He also didn't live in an era where 123 blocks cost $15....

Congratulations for this great job! I notice that aluminum is much less porous than when you worked on the metal lathe. What is the reason?
