Oh Maggie Renee! You have just reacted to my favorite song of all time! They were so truly talented. Other songs of theirs to react to would be: Walking in the Rain, Baby I Love You, Do I Love You, You Baby, (The Best Part of) Breakin Up and they also had a Christmas Album with great songs on it. ( They did the original versions of Don't Worry Baby and Chapel of Love as well) Best wishes and great success to you Maggie Renee!
The drumbeat behind this song is iconic - it is the masterful work of Hal Blaine of the Wrecking Crew and the 'Hal Blaine backbeat' was echoed in dozens of rock and roll songs throughout the 60s and beyond.
Ronnie Spector explained in her autobiography (which was also titled Be My Baby) how she came up with that "Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh" line. When she was a little girl, she tried to yodel when she sang Jambalaya by Hank Williams at a family gathering. Instead, she blurted out that line. She stopped singing and began to cry because she thought she ruined the song. Her parents told her that it was a happy accident and encouraged her to sing that line. So, her "Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh" became her trademark for the rest of her career. 😊
The group that brought the Beatles to America. They came in part to meet Ronnie. She is mentioned in so many classic songs, from Bennie and the Jets by Elton John (her last name was Bennet) to Night Moves by Bob Seger. Classy, iconic lady.
She met the Beatles in the UK while touring with the stones as their opening act. She gave them the contacts they needed in the US when they came over. She also dated John Lennon briefly.
Notably, this song was referenced by Eddie Money in 'Take Me Home Tonight. "Just like Ronnie said, 'Be My Little Baby'". In fact, if I remember correctly, the official music video for the song included B&W footage of a Ronnettes performance. But Ronnie's greatest feat was breaking free from the toxic stew that was Phil Spectre.
@@Wombatmetal Thanks for the added info. I thought that was the case, but I was stretching the memory quite a bit as I haven't seen the video in decades. In fact, I made an edit or two as more details popped into my head just after posting. The adventures of aging-lol
I grow up with all the best music and artists. The 50's-60's-70's. Here in Sweden we had to listen to records or radio Luxemburg or music from the radio pirate ships anchored on international water outside the coast as they where illegal.
Great way to brighten up my day, (eclipse and all) I got the chance to meet Ronnie, sweetest person! She actually sang the harmonies on the album because her backups weren't ready vocally yet. Liked your reaction.
Thanks for doing this one. Big Ronettes fan, and was very pleased with the Eddie Money video of "Take Me Home Tonight" in which Ronnie did her 'Be My Baby' thing. Check out "Walking in the Rain", which is a great performance, just not so up-front in-your-face as "Be My Baby".
One of many girl groups and singers out of the Brill Building. Ellie Greenwich a major writer, there is a musical about her, Leader Of The Pack, (The Ellis Greenwich Story) and her songs, many you probably recognize.
Got introduced to that song and I Will Follow Him from Sister Act which I saw as a child. It was among the countless films from the late 80s and early 90s that capitalized on 60 nostalgia. Dirty Dancing and The Wonder Years solidified my love for all 60s music beyond the big three supergroups of the era.
A little trivia: Just before the Ronettes were to record this particular cut, one of the backup singer/dancers got sick. So one of Phil Specter's producers asked his 18 year old girlfriend to fill in. She's dancing in the top middle on the right side (on the right when you can only see two dancers). The producer: Salvatore Bono. The girlfriend: Cherlyn Sarkisian - later known simply as Cher.
Love the Ronettes 💗💓🥰 I grew up listening to the fantastic girl groups of the 60’s! Ronnie Sector (RIP) was incredible & got better after leaving a very abusive marriage to low dog Phil Spector ( I think he is still in prison😊) The Stones & Beatles loved the girl groups of America, in fact Mary Wells of My Guy fame travelled with the Beatles !! Thanks for reacting to an oldie very close to my heart 💜☮️🇨🇦
Thanks.. love me some Ronnie... this a lip-synch version.. there are some good actual live ones.. I got to meet Ronnie back in the late 80's at a club in Boston where she performed.. she was the sweetest thing.. gave me a hug and posed for photos...
Well before my time but so of its time, I mean the Phil Spector "Wall of Sound", the go-go girl dancers, the Mary Quant-like outfits, the Brill Building song structure. To think how different music would be just a few years later. By the way, she grew up in Harlem and Washington Heights, across the river from but definitely not Joisey. And Fran Drescher grew up in Queens, different accent from either. I can see how the Beatles were fans as their sound is reflected in their early music.
The boots the dancers are wearing are called Go Go boots! I remember being the first at my school to have a pair. Even though to get a pair was over an hour away, 7 other girls showed up with them the next day at school! My and my best friend wanted to grow up to be Go Go Dancers!!!! LOL
Classic. Yes the Ronnettes is a POC trio. She was an older teen when the trio formed. Later, she was the ex-wife of Phil Spector. He abused her. Thus, a divorce happened. In the recording, the late Glen Campbell played guitar . He and The Ronnettes played this song at The Ed Sullivan Theater on The Ed Sullivan TV Show. Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys listened to this song. This was the inspiration for the sing Don't Worry Baby. Written by Brian Wilson and the late Roger Christian. The modern rock band Garbage sampled that song in the song Push It. Decades later, Wilson and the late Ronnie Spector met. Great interview to see. The drum beats on the break was sampled later in the song Take Me Home Tonight sung by the late Eddie Money and Ronnie Spector in 1986. When Ronnie Spector passed away 3 years ago, Brian Wilson and Garbage had eulogies in their tweets. RIP Roger Christian, Glen Campbell, Ed Sullivan, Eddie Money and Ronnie Spector. Suggested videos : 1 Eddie Money and Ronnie Spector sing Take Me Home Tonight live on David Letterman. 2 The Beach Boys perform Don't Worry Baby. 3 Garbage performs Push It. 4 Glen Campbell and Air Supply perform Even the Nights Are Better.
This song made Brian Wilson have to pull over to the shoulder. He could not believe what he was hearing. Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound" recording method using the gifted musicians informally named The Wrecking Crew. Brian used them from then on freeing the Beach Boys from playing instruments and could focus only on singing. There is a documentary on The Wreaking Crew recording the backing tracks for this song. Search for it.
I've been following your reviews since before you knew of a singer named Dimash! I've enjoyed the experience and actually learned a lot. It's been over 3 years since you reviewed Lara Fabian, remember? At the time you said it was sung very emotionally, well, try this on. Again, Lara Fabian this time singing "Je T'aime" Live in Paris 2001. What makes this performance stand out is the audience participation. The day before the show her divorce from a bad 6 year marriage was finalized. The fans arranged with the producer and pianist to allow them to sing the song to her while changing the refraine "I Love You" to "We Love You". As a performer yourself, to have thousands of fans singing We Love You at a difficult time in your life, is like a lifetime achievment award! Even if you don't have time to review for TH-cam, watch and listen for your own enjoyment. Be happy, be well.😁
The longer version of this video includes the song "Shout" Ronnie steps out a bit and you get bits of the camera crew, but more interesting the band is playing in the orchestra pit of the theater they are performing in.
The 1960s as a kid was a great time for girl groups. The Ronettes, The Crystals. Maggie with all the segregation and other crap we live through in Texas during that time, the music brought us together.

I don't care what people out there put forth in ridiculous opinions. I LOVE this song! Eddi Money, a later popular artist made a whole song out of loving this song. His song was called Take Me Home Tonight and in the chorus, he included Ronnie singing be my little baby. 🍻👏🤟
You didn't have to read the lyrics. They are easily understood (not like a lot of music today). Just enjoying the performance is the best part of the video. The other great part to the video was 3 of THE HOTTEST ladies in the music industry.

I’ve always loved Ronnie
roni can be heard singing in the Eddie Money song "Take me home tonight" Answering when he sings "Just like Roni said......"
...and seen in the video, doing the classic "Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Ooooh."
Also wouldn't take credit for appearing in the video or on the recording
Yep - pretty much the only Eddie Money song I really like...
The drumbeat behind this song is iconic - it is the masterful work of Hal Blaine of the Wrecking Crew and the 'Hal Blaine backbeat' was echoed in dozens of rock and roll songs throughout the 60s and beyond.
The beat of a generation!
without the Wrecking Crew R&R would never have gone where it did. Those men were the best.
@@frederickbays and women. Don't forget Carol Kaye, one of the best bassists in history!
@@stpnwlf9 Carol Kaye was the real deal.
I saw a video where Blaine said that beat was a mistake. He missed the first snare hit. 🤯

And unfortunately Ronnie has said that The Beatles were also their downfall from popularity as the Beatles overtook everything. Iconic song tho.

You gotta love Ronnie Spector. She was cute as a button and so full of personality and energy!

Amy Winehouse got her look from Ronnie. Teri Garr was the dancer on the top left.
The thank you at the end was faboo
More 60s girlgroups please!!! Love the Ronettes. Also the Shangri-las. Beautiful songs
Those dancers are awesome.
One of my earliest musical memories. Lovely 60s sound. Thanks for this unusual reaction.

Ronnie was dropdead gorgeous into old age. What a foxy woman.
Great song, Was also in the movie dirty dancing.
That's where I first heard the song and changed my mind on "oldies" music.
There's a surprisingly good Ramones cover of this song
Ms. Maggie Renee, you might enjoy checking out the cover Blue Öyster Cult made of this classic. 🤘🏻
love those 60's hits
One of many girl groups and singers out of the Brill Building. Ellie Greenwich a major writer, there is a musical about her, Leader Of The Pack, (The Ellis Greenwich Story) and her songs, many you probably recognize.
The chorus is so pleasing BECAUSE it uses the strongest 4 chord movement in music which is a 1,6,4,5 in a major key.
Mary Wells also toured with the Beatles. Try "My Guy". I didn't know that Washington Heights was in New Jersey.
it's in Manhattan upper west side...from about 170 to 200th street. Please correct me if I'm wrong 😮

I love the music from the Late 50s into the Early '70s. The Nanny, "Fran Dresser"
Brian Wilson played this song a million times. It's his favorite pop song, directly inspired Don't Worry Baby.
Brian Wilson said this was the greatest song ever.
"When will I see you again?" by the Three Degrees?
