    This was 1963.....It seems so strange to see young kids listen to the songs of my generation and be so shocked. I'm almost 80 and still have over 300 45 RPM records dating back to 1953 that I still play weekly. I could count on one hand todays music I listen to. Real singers and musicians ended n 1989

    • @toodlescae
      @toodlescae 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      My mom had given me all of her 45's plus I had a large album collection of my own. Unfortunately I lost everything in a fire in '95.
      I would say real talent mostly ended in 1996 with the introduction of autotune. There are still some excellent musicians and singers out there but they're mostly independent like Home Free, VoicePlay, Dan Vasc and several others.

      Old school, I said about the same thing and then started searching, it isn't the same massive break through like the 50s 60s 70s, but there are some really talented young artists, consider listening to "Home Free" or Hound and fox, simply outstanding.

    This is another one of the fabulous girl groups from the early 60's. Phil Spector produced this group. He later married the lead singer Ronnie. They had some great hits including "Be My Baby", "Baby, I Love You", "(The Best Part of) Breakin' Up" & "Walking In The Rain". Sadly we just lost Ronnie but she left a great legacy of her music.

    This is from 1963, and the moves is a dance called the Jerk. Ronnie Spector married record producer Phil Spector of the Wall of Sound. He produced the Righteous Bros hits, You've Lost That Loving Feeling, Soul & Inspiration, among many others.

    1963. Lead singer Veronica Bennett (later known as Ronnie Spector), her older sister Estelle Bennett, and their cousin Nedra Talley. Singers then HAD to have natural talent -- no auto-tune, no "fudging" around to make a singer sound good. AND instruments -- lots of instruments, saxophones, piano, strings, horns.

    • @Nomad-vv1gk
      @Nomad-vv1gk 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Please stop with the auto-tune comments. All auto-tune does is what the producer use to do manually. There were plenty of singers in the 60's right up to today, whose singing voice was enhanced by the craftsmanship of the person who produced the record.

    • @carolhayar3037
      @carolhayar3037 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Nomad-vv1gk There was always "tweaking" but there is a difference between (1) “pitch correction” which goes back to the 40’s (reel-to-reel recorders), & (2) correction by re-recording & overdubbing. Auto-tune is another process altogether,
      developed by engineer & Ph. D. Andy Hildebrand in 1997 which is an entirely different process & creates a different type
      of sound.

    This clip is from Shindig which featured the Righteous Brothers weekly. She was so adorable and she married that crazy ass Phil Specter who produced her records and a couple of the Righteous Brothers' albums. That little dance move you replayed was the Jerk and it could get a little crazy with faster music to the point where we had to ice our backs when we came home from the campus bars.

    Motown had Maxine Powell who taught poise and grace, and it had Cholly Atkins as choreographer who taught raw girls and guys from the poor neighbors how to perform and behave on stage.
    A Motown singer you probably should review is Mary Wells. Her big hit was "My Guy" which has wonderful alliteration, "You best believin' that I won't be deceivin'". Wells toured with the Beatles.

    Lead vocalist Ronnie (Veronica) Bennett vocals, the "whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh", is a blend of two of the most successful singers of that era, Connie Francis and Brenda Lee. These ladies never wore wigs. "Be My Baby" was released in August 1963. In 1961, The Ronettes, the New York City girl group made up of Veronica (Ronnie) Bennett, her sister Estelle Bennett, and their cousin Nedra Talley. By 1963, the trio caught the attention of producer Phil Spector, and moved to his Philles Records, expanding their sound with his famous “Wall of Sound” production technique. “Be My Baby” was recorded at Gold Star Studios in Hollywood, California on July 5, 1963 and released in August, 1963. They released only one studio album and broke up in 1967. The Bennetts' mother was a Black American and their father was Irish-American. Their cousin, NedraTalley, is Black American and Puerto Rican. In America during the time they were popular, they were a "Negro group". There was no social media so most white people didn't realize this. The group never denied their Black heritage, in fact they graced the cover of Ebony Magazine, the most important monthly magazine for Black people throughout the USA.

We still had good music until the 90's when Grunge came out. Even as late as 2008 we had a few good groups like the Plain White T's. But for years now, it's horrible. Nothing. Ronnie was married to Phil Spector, I’m glad the Ronnets made it, but unfortunately Phil was not kind to Ronnie. It was sad when she passed, but love their music. Ronnie also sang with Eddie Money in Take me Home Tonight.
