As a conductor, I believe that Herreweghe is probably the greatest esthetician in all of music history. It doesn't matter if he conducts Monteverdi or Schumann - the balance is always ABSOLUTE!

A truly great performance of a great symphony. It brings back some of the most treasured memories in my discovery of the transcendence of music! The third movement speaks directly to the heart.

Wieder ein hervorragendes Beispiel für den "Stuttgart Sound". Jede Menge Daumenhoch für Orchester und Dirigenten. Schade nur dass der neue Chefdirigent dieses Klangpotential nicht nutzt.

Ganz Ihrer Meinung! Das Orchester verdient besser. In den letzten zwei Jahren hat sich das Orchester von einem zum anderen Hoehepunkt entwickelt.

Na ja, er lässt halt nicht so spielen (kein Vibrato usw.). Wahrscheinlch wei man den "Stuttgart sound" vor allem in Verbindung mit Roger Norrington bringt und das vielleicht die "Glorie" von C. etwas schmältert (nicht böse gemeint, ich verehre Currentzis sehr, seine Interpretationen mit dem SWRSO sind im besten Sinn "atemberaubend"). Das SWRSO hat sich in den letzten Jahren sehr stark musikalisch entwickelt. Das mag das Resultat des Zusammenschlusses sein. Currentzis hat m. E. nicht die Faehigkeit gezeigt dieses Potential aus nutzen zu können.

Except that it is beautifully crafted, perfect, but... nothing happens. The politely enthusiastic applause says it all. Compare with true romantic versions of Mitropoulos, Casals, Maderna, Szell, even Harnoncourt (!)...
