The All New Marlin 336 Classic by Ruger

- Marlin’s original Model 336 lever action defined generations of deer hunters. The design is now 75 years old, but the road hasn’t always been smooth. Early models have always been favored, but after John Marlin’s company changed hands numerous times over the years, the line went dead.
Flash forward to 2023. Ruger has taken ownership and is righting the ship. On the heels of a family of recently reintroduced Marlin Model 1895s, the brand is shipping the first “new” Model 336 Classics. Could they be the greatest yet? Let’s find out. - บันเทิง
When the wagons are circled and the arrows are flying , i want this gal by my side
"I am not an expert with iron sights..."..... as she drills 'em into an inch. Holy shootin'!
lol that's literally what I was thinking....that was some of the best shooting with iron sites on a lever action rifle that I've ever witnessed.
Better than I could do!
She's a real shooter
Haha! Right?
The hundred yard accuracy with stock Buckhorn sites she got was very outstanding
Very impressed with the gun. Ruger did a great job to keep Marlin alive.
Great review and as always Kristin Rocks!!
@@RJ-oi3ckyou get what you pay for. Its kinda expensive, but its high quality, great fit and finish
@@RJ-oi3ck nah, adjusted for inflation, the price makes perfect sense. In the 1950's and 60's, a quality lever gun cost about 2 weeks salary for the average man's salary at the time. These are selling for just under 1300.00 most places, which is: about 2 week's of an average man's salary. The same as it use to be, adjusted for inflation.....
Kudos for Ruger for bringing this rifle in 30.30 sound like a real winner.
gotta love a gal that loves a .45-70 so much she had to buy one!!
that handiness is what made me grow to love a 336. shape and ergos of the fore end and pistol grip stock and the speed that allows you to snap right into place.. love it. a fella could raise hell with a 336
Another great Kristen video to make my day. Excellent group, especially with iron sights! I have a Winchester 94 that I bought in 1974. I worked all summer for it and it cost $74.00. I still have it and consider it and my Henry lever guns as part of my family. Lever guns have a soul.
Awesome review Kristin! Good shooting too.

Everyone who's ever shot a lever action 30-30 knows the deal here. Guys get them. put them away for the next big thing then inevitably come bak to the tried and true 30-30 win. Thank Marlin for bring this favorite lever action back to the people!
I had a Marlin 336 back in the '70s in Colorado. I had to sell it during harder times in the '80s. I always regretted doing that.
That's a classic saying " ...regret selling it..."
☆
I paid 99 bucks at Kmart in the late 70s for an original JM. If only we knew.
239.00 IN 1990 FOR A JM
Me too and they probably were made better then the new ones
I have both early 80's models of the .44 and .35 Rem. Love them both.
This is almost certainly a better-made rifle and adjusted for inflation that’s like $500, but yeah $99 was a steal
I’ll buy an old Jm at auction for $500 less and not have a safety
Beautiful rifle.
I added the new 357 and 44 to my collection. RM is on point.
Tight grouping and a beautiful rifle. Thank you!
Great review. I'm so glad Ruger finally listened and brought back the 30 30. Beautiful rifle. 👍
I have an original Marlin 336W and it is beautiful too look at and shoot in 30-30. I bought mine at an auction for $425.00 and never regret it.
My first rifle. Glad to see it back again. It just does its job; it’s just that simple.
My first centerfire rifle that wasn't military surplus was a Glenfield Model 30, which was just the budget 336. Loved that gun! Glad to see it back on the market
Impressive rifle! Thanks for video, Kristin!
👍👍👍
Ruglin or Marger. I don’t know which to call it, but it looks pretty good. A few years ago, a friend of my older brother passed away and his widow sold his gun collection. I bought a Marlin 336 made in 1978 for $300. I took this gun completely apart for cleaning and found no rust whatsoever. It was dirty on the inside, but no rust at all. Still haven’t shot this gun, but I have a brand new scope for it. Gonna get some ammo for it and see how well it shoots. Can’t wait.
Inherited my dad's 336 that he bought in the mid 1980's. Very accurate and still the smoothest lever action I've shot.
"I'm not a expert with iron sights" ha ha, I beg to differ
That is one nice looking rifle! I’ve always been a fan of Marlin ever since my dad bought one of their .44 magnum rifles. That was an impressive group from one hundred yards with an iron sight! Great job, Kristen!
Glad you enjoyed it Ben.
That's an amazing group with open sights on that rifle. Looks like you're making me get another lever gun.
Kirsten, just wanted to say thank you for producing these great videos. I live in Australia and just picked up my Ruger made Marlin SBL after a 4 month wait. Such a well made rifle, super impressed. Best wishes from Australia 🇦🇺
I’m holding out for the 1894c in .44 mag. With hopefully a 16”-18” barrel!!!
Just announced Ruger is shipping them! 20-1/4” barrel though.
@@chipsterb4946 Trapper model, 16”
@@silverhorder1969 that was my point…
Great shooting Kristin! I have all four of the Ruger-made Marlins and the 336 is probably my favorite so far. I live in East Texas and the 30-30 Winchester is the ideal cartridge for all game found here. I can’t wait to see what model Ruger-Marlin comes out with next!
Thanks for the comment TLAH.
I bought my JM 30-30 for $300.00 and put an XS Sight system on it. Longest shot I’ve made with it was 200 meters accurately. I’m happy that Ruger has continued the legacy but $1,300.00 is a little steep.
A little steep?
With my budget it’s quite steep
What load on 200m shot?
I did the math and a quality lever gun purchased between 1955-1965 cost about 2 weeks salary for an average income in America. Turns out, this rifle at 1200-1300 dollars is now about 2 weeks average American salary....just the same as it was back then.
@Simon-talks Hmm, that adds good perspective. Thx!
I agree. Just because Ruger is making them now, shouldn't make the price that much higher. I bought my JM 336 for $450.00 in 1989. NOT gonna pay $1300 for a new one. Sorry, not sorry.
The wood to metal fit looks lovely. Can’t wait for the ‘94! 😃
She’s impressed! Im impressed with the group she shot at 100 yards with open sights!
Great shooting with iron sights
Congratulations Lady ❤
Msrp is a little off the scale of practicality for a thirty thirty.
That safety is probably the most superfluous addition to any rifle in history .
Other than that I've been waiting for rugers 336 and will be purchasing one for Alabama whitetails .

@@Simon-talks wow that is interesting. Absolutely, and it's made in America . I think we got used to buying the Walmart crap that was made by slaves in China at ridiculously low prices. Also, it's a valid point because as a boomer, my perspective reflects the economy of the 1970s.
@@merrilllewis3926 yes! That’s exactly right! Quality in most cases didn’t become more expensive it’s just that quality disappeared and corporations strived for years to make really crappy stuff, cheaper and cheaper and cheaper and we got used to it as consumers
And now, when a company builds something of handmaid quality again, we get sticker shock because we are used to the cheap fabricated crap lol
@@Simon-talks yes sir.
Damm, fine shooting, especially with irons. It looks like it may be a tad more accurate than the older marlins. Nice review, keep up the great work.
Great to se kristin again!!!
I bought a 336 Texan from a pawn shop in 1985 for $135 It was manufactured in 1972 and I still love it.
I really enjoy your educational teaching on ALL the Firearms you share with us!!😉👊🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸Thank you
Thanks for the review, Kristen...looking forward to some other chamberings. (I'd love to see a 327 Federal offered!)
HENRY ALREADY MAKES IT
@@Rusty-Brown_ Yeah, but I want a good-quality one. Two of the four people I know who bought the Henry 327 had to send them back multiple times, and none of the rifles meet my accuracy standards.
I bought a used but in damn near mint condition 1979 JM stamped marlin 336 a few years back, few white tail later and it’s my first choice for the back 40 woods hunting I do here in south central Ontario Canada. Cheers from Canada eh 🍻🇨🇦👍🏻
I've always wanted a 30-30 from Marlin. Truly a classic that can drop damn near anything in North America within 150 yards.
Kristin is my favorite gun reviewer
Great video! We have a couple of these 336 Classics and they're very nice and a great hunting rifle choice.
You ARE an expert with iron sights ! nice shooting , chick !
Another great review by Kristen.
Lady, you're good at what you do.
Excellent review, Kristen!❤
Inch and a half groupings are great at 100 yards
I'm glad Ruger is actually treating the Marlin line right. Still waiting for the classic 1895 in 45-70 and the 336 in .35 Rem.
That looks very nice I'm impressed 👌
Damn good shooting, Kristen
Great shooting, very informative.
Great Video. Thank you.
Great review and a sweet rifle, hope they come out in 44 mag
Ich habe a Model 336 in .35 Remington, purchased in 1995 and I Hope for the Youngsters Ruger will offer this Classic Boarbuster also....
I Like the Punch of my 200 Grain Bullets😉
That's some fine shooting, young lady
My Marlin 336 was made in New Haven CT, paid 289.95 March 1994 new, caliber 35 Remington.
Very nice add one to my collection.
I’ve got a 1951 made 336a with the 24 inch barrel, beauty of a rifle !
I have the original model 1936. Will definitely be adding one of these to my collection. I'd really like to customize one. If the barrels are first rate it will definitely be worth putting some work into it. Thanks for the video!
Excellent excellent video presentation!!
If it is Kristen, always welcome and ok😁😁
Really like your video’s. Always so informative. I can tell you are passionate about the firearms you report on as I am!! My criticism about this lever gun does not mean that I do not think this is a fine firearm. I only express my druther’s about it!! I remember when you compared the Remington all weather 1895 to Henry’s X. That was an excellent review on the pro’s and con’s of both!!
I love a 100% respect and love what ruger has done though missed the mark on affordable. If im paying $1,300 for a lever gun its going to be a antique winchester model 94 or a henry. I paid $299 for my jm marlin and its what makes it so special it was cheap and works amazingly well.
Great shooting.😊😊😊
Hope they bring back the model 39 mountie
Good review. Nice job.
Good review.
Lovely review... I want one
Very nice rifle. We have them on our site. Thanks for the comment Hugh.
Great shooting
Thank you for the video, I only hope I can find one to buy before I die.
Bought an 1894 and I'm pretty impressed. Will look for a 336 when they come around. One thing I HATE about these Marlins, are the horrible sights! Rotten cheap rear buckhorn (or whatever) and that brass bead. Anyone else wish for a u notch w/square blade or post front sight??? Honestly.....
Your grouping is pretty impressive, considering the sights!
I got a 1894 made 1907, 26" octagon barrel. Great rifle.😊😊😊
The quality on the one I looked at in the store was absolutely insane, it was a piece of art. But for just under 4 digits I couldn’t do it. I have a few waffle tops and another from the 60s. Make one in the 360 buck hammer and I won’t hesitate
That is awesome shooting
I have several JM Marlins and a new Mayodan Made Marlin 1895 Guide Gun. I love older firearms. I won’t buy another Colt made after 1960, but the new Marlins are simply made better than the older ones based on my small sample size. The hammer forged barrel with typical rifling (instead of microgroove) is a plus. Fit and finish is excellent. My Guide Gun trigger is nice except for the Marlin slop. She’s right about the loading gate. My 1990s 1895 LTD tries to take a chunk of finger every time I load it. The new MM Marlin is the easiest lever action to load ever.
I completely agree. In many ways these are made better than my old 336
I would love to have one of these in 7-30 Waters. Hornady still makes the ammo.
Open sites at 100yds Awesome shooting
Not a distant memory of people dragging these into gunshows and also later model Win 94 walking around asking like150$ for them. SO did Ruger address the famous or infamous Marlin jam issue where the sharp edge on the lever cuts into the lifter and causes malfunctions due to wear? There are videos of how to fix it but Marlin never did? Will Ruger take notice?
Should offer a limited number in 38/55. I have a JM 336 CB. A great rifle in a great caliber
I own a 100 year anniversary 336 built in 1970...in all these years i put only 40 rounds through it...its in near mint condition...I believe i paid a bit over 100.00 dollars for it way back then...times sure have changed...woods...excellent review by the way!
Glad you enjoyed it MT.
I did the math and a quality lever gun purchased between 1955-1965 cost about 2 weeks salary for an average income in America. Turns out, this rifle at 1200-1300 dollars is now about 2 weeks average American salary....just the same as it was back then. Most people have trouble estimating inflation cost compared to the cost of living but this rifle is still 2 weeks salary of someone making 30k per year, similar to what it was back then. Most people would "work all summer long, breakin' my back , haulin' hay and loggin just to buy a 336" remember....
I like the pistol grip and hooded front sight. I'd love to see one with a 24-inch barrel.
I wish I could shoot buckhorn irons that accurately at 100yds
You're better with iron sights then most people are with a scoop!
It has a pretty good following with PNW Blacktail hunters too
What brand of gun rest are you using
Awesome 😎
Good, thx
As a 50 plus hunter, I approve this message. Even tho I am a Winchester guy.
Hey Kristin, This was a real good review, have you reviewed the classic Henry .30-30 Side Gate yet?
man this is a role model woman. speaks about firearms and shooting with real knowledge of the subject.. not just a chick with their boobs out saying “gun.” i mean that’s cool, too.. but this chick can teach you something and and answer the questions an educated gun lover would actually have.❤❤❤
And the good news is that it's even legally available in antigun Australia.
Any chance they coming out with any chamberings in those fairly new straight wall cartridges??
HENRY ALREADY IS
love it
It's got Henry-like Quality. Maybe better.
I love mine
Kristen, on a total whim, in the early 2000's I bought a Marlin 336 SS 30-30 from a guy at a gun show booth in South Texas. I am pretty sure it was before the Remington buy-out. I am not a gun guy and I know virtually nothing about guns or hunting. The gun came with a scope already mounted, a Chinese TASCO "Silver Antler" MSA3 9 x 40 WAST. When I took it to a range, the scope had never been sighted-in. Would you know if this scope is considered any good or is it a piece of junk? Comments?
Are they available now ?
Did I hear correct? $1,000 for a 336?? Thank God I have a 80's built 336 .35 in pristine condition that I got for a steal. A Real Keeper

Great for American deer, would love to see how it performs in Africa...generally bigger calibers are favoured over here...
How about Rogers longtime competition the model 60?
I was wondering about the rifling on these rifles. I'm not a fan of the mic groove barrels, they don't shoot straight.
Hopefully Remington will start producing 35 Remington ammo too
