Is foot ball a religion? Why?
It depends on how we use the word "religion." If we think in terms of necessary and sufficient conditions, it's technically possible that football would be a religion, I suppose, depending on what necessary and sufficient conditions we agree upon. However, the necessary and sufficient conditions most people would accept would likely exclude football. At any rate, in the way I'm using the word (as it functions in my cultural context), no, football would not be a religion, because it isn't recognized as such. In other words, if said, "Football is my religion," in my cultural context, almost everyone would realize I was either joking or a bit off my rocker.
