    I bought one. It is excellent. Light, thin, love that MagnaCut steel. Perfection :-) .... also a bonus is that it has no sharpening choil to catch on things. This one is great.

    I own two Speedgoats, both in Magnacut, and they work great. Gut, skinned and deboned a large mule deer in fall of 2023 and it was razor sharp after all of that work. Did not have to break out the second one (yes, I carry two knives while hunting). Easy cleanup. Just remove the paracord, wash off the blade, and install new paracord. Yes, for $225.00 it is pricey, but well worth every penny. I own knives from just about every maker and can say the Speedgoat works best for taking care of game.

      If you send it back to MKC for their complimentary resharpening, they'll also replace the Paracord for free.

    The Speedgoat is on my list to get, right behind a T Kell Nightguard. I had read that it was MKC's most popular blade and that they jumped through hoops to ramp up production this year so that they would always have them in stock. Not a fan of the cord wrapped grip for 'goopy' chores and my mid 50's year old hands will probably demand the scales. Glad they came out in magnacut this year, hate to admit I've become a fanboi of that steel, it's just that good.

    I love that style of knife. It reminds me of one of my edc blades the CRKT Obake. It has a wrapped handle like a katana sword with some kinda coating over it thats held up well and is really grippy. I dont like paracord wrapped knives at all. They dont let a knife perform at its best and make it look cheap imo.
    I wish my CRKT had better steel but it does what I need it to do and I carry several knives with it for other tasks. I do like their tactical versions with the ring but they want more for it than I can afford right now.

    The best knife I own! I’ve cut up an elk, bear and many deer. If you clean it in an hour or so and the paracord works great. It stays sharp and the point is great for capping. Better than the multiple Benchmade knives I own.

    This MKC Speedgoat is very similar in design to the Rainier Knives Fastpak, especially the early incarnation/version of the Fastpak that had a paracord wrapped handle🤔 The MKC Speedgoat would be better if it had micarta scales just like how Rainier eventually did with the Fastpak👍

  • @readyme
    @readyme ปีที่แล้ว

    I like it as it is thin stock and Magnacut. But I think it needs scales.
    Looking forward to your Ascent review. Though I can’t find one to buy. Do you have a link?

    Paracord on a gutting and skinning knife? Not ideal. I would pass on that design. Been hunting my whole life, raised in a family of hunters and don't think any of them would want a paracord wrapped handle. Hard to keep clean and sanitary. Thanks for the video though.

    • @Stassa23
      @Stassa23  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah definitely not ideal, I still have grime stuck on a fixed blade with Micarta scales that I cleaned a boar with and I could only imagine what it would be like with a cord wrapped handle 👍🍻🍻

      Agreed. Wood, G10, Rubber, or bare metal are definitely preferred on my hunting knives.

      I think of it more as a disposable grip. They dont do a knotted wrap. It is a simple wind, so just takes a couple of minutes to replace.
      It meets the goal of keeping weight down. My bigger concern was that the edges still have a bit of bite through the cord. Now.... the Johnstone with G10 was a real joy to use, just a slightly thicker blade. The Speedgoat was a scalpel though.

    It works very well(for me),as a neck knife-so flat it doesnt print,and so light,you literally forget its there.I carry it for tactical purposes,and for that its got it allyou need-very pokey and aslashing machine.I left the tail on the paracord,to make it easier to guide your hand to the grip.But honestly,I prefer this for just tactical,I carry a 940 or a mini rsk,or a deka for usual edc tasks

  • @chrishinkle5982
    @chrishinkle5982 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for sharing bud I love the knife but I would rather go with real scales instead of the paracord but I guess one good thing about it is you can replace the paracord as needed if it gets dirty or sticky

    The Rainier Knives Fastpak is a bit smaller than the MKC Speedgoat, but the Fastpak still offers a full four finger grip. The Fastpak also has an option of really nice micarta scales and comes with a much smaller/thinner taco style Kydex sheath. The Fastpak with micarta scales costs $149.00 vs. the MKC Speedgoat at $225.00 with a paracord wrapped handle. I really really wish that one day Rainier Knives will make the Fastpak with magnacut steel🙏🤞

      I also have an Argali Carbon, which has a slightly longer blade, better scales, and is actually lighter than the Fastpak. Steel is S35VN. It came stupid sharp.
      I'm currently alternating between the Fastpak and the Carbon as my fixed blade EDC.

    @d_sharon_design ปีที่แล้ว

    As an avid hunter, yeah this is pretty much perfect if you had the scales and no paracord. Most knives marketed for hunting aren't great for it. This shape and size would handle pretty much everything well.

    Magnacut has been found to patina in animal juices, hence the mirror polish. Otherwise solid review

  • @sheltermonkey6065
    @sheltermonkey6065 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why do you care if the secondary bevel widens up at the heel of the blade? For cutting cord and other items which can bind, it's much better not to have a sharpening choil. Is the blade finish their standard finish? A mirror finish is actually better for salt-water use, as Magnacut can still corrode.

    • @Stassa23
      @Stassa23  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Easier for me to sharpen since sharpening is already very hard for me since my accident so I’ll keep doing it and yes Magnacut can rust however I live in the south and have went salt water fishing several times and used my tactile Rockwall and haven’t had a single rust spot, I’ve cut lines and other things which has rusted plenty of other knives so I’m not worried about it

    A sharpening choil isn't great on a hunting knife since it has the tendency to get hung up while processing the animal.
