better than upgrading unique items is upgrading set items I feel. I know set doesn't carry you in the late game, but if you depend on the resistance buff of one or two set items, its a real dog send to upgrade them for further difficulty and not find two items to outmatch them. because often replaying only one set item with a superior will make your character a bit worse despite the individual items being better
It's a pain but you can port hero edited characters for single player over for educational purposes. Just need to over write or delete the character every time. Direct editing is borked since it throws a signature and version error up. Interesting note is that an iron golem made from a modded weapon despawns randomly. Broken gear for your frolic through hell are fine though. Not sure if that will be the case in the future

if you mean the upgrade: armor means body, boots, helm, belt and gloves in this case. wish I had known this trick years ago. in resurrected it also works on set
I have difficulty for battle the bossfight in act 2. I have use more times the teleports for heal and buys the potions and back for battle the bossfight. I know my NPC has bad builds. The class is Barbaric. I have equip talismans in inventory for buff my swords. How have you know crafting with Horadric Cube. In game the character "teach" me for crafting, He has tell how to craft the object for the quest and he has the example craft the long sword with 6 gems and sword or arrows in darts. But I don't know where I find guides
No in game guides, you have to experiment or search out videos like this. Also good lists available on the Diablo 2 wiki. Sorry for not providing the link, I'm on mobile.

Normal.cows drops chipped amd flawed gems a lot, so it's not really necessary
there is also a recipe to turn a low quality item to a normal or white item that can then be used to roll for sockets. cheers.
