Cuz it assumes all new players are dopamine addicts that will want to keep doing countless runs only to see a number rise, rather than just people trying to beat the challenges that come with the narrative of the game.
When I learned how to use cube properly, it opened up so many doors. Pre-cube I would grind for item sets. But actually searching for the ingredients to make my own set of blood gloves with unique stats was sooooo rewarding and exciting. I was able to make my own crushing blow lifesteal gloves that had nice extra stats and I was getting ridiculous trade offers for those gloves. The fact that they were so unique made me feel like they were MINE, and that was a really cool feeling for an mmorpg where unique sets aren't really unique, but the horodric cube gear is truly one of a kind.

would have been interresting to add that the socketing recipe rolls from 1-6 sockets regardless of item. and that if the rolled number exceedes the max sockets of the item it gets max sockets. So a dusk shroud for example has: 1/6 chance of getting 1 socket 1/6 chance of getting 2 socket 1/6 chance of getting 3 socket 3/6 chance of getting 4 socket (50% chance)
You really should give crafting a try, powerful stuff comes from that cube ;) classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/crafteditems.shtml check the 4 links at the bottom of the page. Most people craft Caster Amulets, Blood Gloves, Blood Rings and Hit Power Gloves.

PoE deserves props for trying to figure out cool itemization options that aren't runewords or ethereal. These two things were probably the two best itemization mechanics ever, but sadly Blizz North got to them first haha

Dont forget, when crafting; blood, caster, hit power or safety items, the item lvl will make a huge difference in the stats. i.e. if you're crafting a blood ring (magic ring, sol rune, jewel, pruby) you want the magic ring to drop from baal in hell, just like rerolling GC's. This will give you the best chance for rolling a GG crafted item. I am not positive if the item lvl of the 'jewel' matters, but i personally try to use jewels from lvl 85 areas and up. However, im not 100 percent sure that matters.
How do I know if the item is elite/ exceptional or just normal? I know the gold ones are unique, yellow is rare, blue is magic, and green is set. What is this elite/exceptional stuff?
It's defined by its basic type. For example, a normal cap is called a war hat in exceptional variant and shako in elite. If you pick it up it will also have higher stats and level requirements

You should have mentioned how an armors base defence will roll and varies when upgrading. So even if you upgrade a 200% Arreat it could turn out with shitty defence.
good info , as I've recently tried to craft a weapon and armor that didn't work , little advise out there as to why or if it no longer applies with v1.14d ? he doesn't give a good reason for saying he would only upgrade a slow eth bonesnap ? he doesn't cross examine himself by offering some reason for not doing that with better weapons. he speed trips over his information assuming more information is known by his audience. giving a know time frame of usefulness can be more insightful .

First ever`? Look up a zeal build guide, but look at the stats on the items, not the items itself and try to find good gear. Also try out plugy, its a mod that will boost the fun in singleplayer by a lot! Hf, and try out a sorc :) (best farming class for starters)
They made the graphics sooo fancy... Its a solid block^^ Now I call it Horadric Cube! Can you actually dupe items there? I havent successfully crafted a lvl3+ Lapisia (lapis) myself!! Or crafted an elemental sword. Someone else is crafting it for me.... I think I got water or maybe wind sword from Bob. Its for lvl15, I think its for GRB. Thats why I made Rosas for that sword ...^^ That dagger is like a wand enchanted for heals! I use it for my Priest!!

I played mostly singleplayer without internet, so I did the same.
You can also upgrade 3 runes in to a higher one.

You can also turn 3 bolt into 1 arrow, or 3 arrows into 1 bolt. Deckard Cain told me that.

Use a sorcerer with leaf, stealth, and lure runewords. Max fire wall and you can get to hell fast and easy
