    I have no idea where one obtains clear-bodied locks, but they were an excellent device for this informative tutorial! Also, though I can postulate some reasons why certain people, locksmiths and police for instance, might give your video thumbs down, I cannot agree.
    There are, in fact, legitimate and lawful reasons for drilling locks. I recently purchased several job site tool boxes at auction. One is locked. The theft-discouraging design of the box houses the padlock within a steel recess where the bow of the lock is totally inaccessible to any cutting device without severely damaging the box. Thank you for providing this excellent tutorial that gives me several alternative methods to consider.
    I will return another time to see if you also have a video detailing methods of drilling out an integral Medico (if I recall the brand correctly) lock on the door of a soda pop vending machine that a former tenant abandoned on a property I own. Regrettably, I already probably procrastinated too long since the machine sat in an unheated building through several sub-zero Montana winters--I shudder to contemplate what, other than a few coins, I will find inside ;-)

    As to which method works best, I would think a plastic lock isn't the best test medium. For a practical real world scenario it would've been nice if you would've also included drilling out real world locks/deadbolt/doorhandle using the same methods. Yes being able to see what happens inside is insightful. Title should read: How to drill out plastic practice locks 4 diff ways.

    Another point to make for people is there going to be drilling in steel not plastic. So angle grinder and a pair of pliers to hold it steady. I've used this method on many storage units over the years.

    • @2011blueman
      @2011blueman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have the angle grinder then you're better off just cutting the lock instead of drilling it, it's much faster (just look at professional bike thieves they don't drill the locks, they use a grinder and cut them).

    • @NSarg04
      @NSarg04 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@2011blueman that's what he was saying. Cut the lock with the grinder, but you obviously don't want to put your fingers directly next to the spinning blade so use pliers to hold it still. If you try and grind it without keeping it still then you'll just push the lock away from the grinder and it won't cut

    Hah, my kid locked her room with her sister's computer (needed for school), her computer (needed for work) and a friend's car key inside. Smooth move dudette!
    It was a standard cylinder lock for which there was no key (it's a rental we took during remodel). I drilled a small hole above, but as near as I could get to the shear line. Like reality, I could not always keep the drill straight, so it veered right-up and then a little up. But, it was a smallish hole, so once I got it fairly straight, I turned the drill on a higher speed and just "sawed" down a little bit and the lock easily opened. The hole is small so you can hardly notice it. The lock still works from inside, but anything that turns the cylinder such as a screwdriver will now open the lock. The whole door mechanism is still completely functional so we're not even going to replace the lock.
    Moral #1 of the story (IMHO) drill just above the sheer line (why not through the sheer line? Because it's really hard to do that since the cylinder is often harder steel) and then with mild downward pressure, high turn rate, press lightly down until it chews through the sheer line. Don't break the drill! This has the advantage of leaving the door knob and even lock inside completely functional.
    Moral #2 Holy hell, this type of lock should not be used on your outside doors! It literally took me all of 10 seconds and I bet I could do it in 3 with a bit of practice. This is not secure at all!

    Usually you don't even need to drill very far. The vibration will magically rattle the pins into the open position. If the key turns counter clockwise, use a left hand drill. I found this by accident once while drilling out a door knob in my house. Not the quietest way to open a lock. But this made me realize that most locks are not particularly hard for a thief to open. False security.

    Heres a few other tips for free,
    Check which direction your new drills on hahaha it shoudlnt take longer than a minute it may be the video but it looked like you had the drill on reverse.?! Either that or those drill bits are just garbage.
    -Buy a cordless angle grinder, cut the rasp the thing the lock is locked onto, dont even bother with the lock. You can also just cut the brass part of the lock, even a hacksaw will cut straight thru easily.
    -Buy a pair of bolt cutters with a couple of pieces of steel pipe on the handles, again dont bother with the lock just cut the thing its on.
    -use a drill bit the same size as the lock and drill the whole barrell out. Use lubricant and decent drill bits. Even hardened locks with the right pressure, bit and lube itl take under 2 mins.
