Relaxing? Maybe for the passengers. I spitted and cursed and almost broke my keyboard trying to pass the tram stage in Nagoya Railroad

To be honest, I think it took me ten tries or so to get this one I recorded and posted here. I know how you feel.
      Thanks for stopping by, man!

880 Series Tram Stage maybe is too depressing, but believe me. the 1st Stage Between Shinnagoya and Sukaguchi is The Easiest to Complete, since it uses the 3700 series trains

Wow, the graphics are very impressive for a game like this! This is seriously jaw dropping by PS1 standards. I wonder what kind of budget the devs had considering the series is like 95% jp only (I think I remember one getting an overseas release on PS2).

Right? If you look really close you can see a lot of clever tricks pulled by the devs. A lot of clever sprite use (since you can't really control the camera" and good texture use on low poly models.
One thing I can tell you is that I like the PS versions way more than any of the PS2 (and later) versions. If you look some screenshots of both you'll see. The PS ones look all bright, cheerful and inviting, while the later ones decided to go full 3D and use 3D lighting and such, makes the whole game look so bland and sad, it's a shame.
Thank you for stopping by, I hope you manage to give the game a chance someday!

I would indeed like to give it a shot, but can you play this with no knowledge of japanese?

It depends. You'll need just to navigate the menus, but it's nothing you can't do just by memory.
Other than that, when you learn the basics, all games revolve around the same mechanics. I did a video on the basics of the game. It might help if you're interested:

Thanks a bunch! I just checked and I was mistaken, there's not a single game in the series that made it out of Japan... Maybe I was thinking of a different game. Anyway, between the PS1 and PSP games, which would you say is best for a total noob? As you said the mechanics will mostly be the same, but maybe one is more forgiving than the other difficulty-wise?

If emulation is ok for you, I'd go for the PS ones. The Nagoya Railroad one has several kinds of trains, varying from very easy to hard ones. I'd start with that one. If you have any doubts that I haven't covered in that video I made feel free to ask.

    Relaxing?
Nope, it can be stressful because Traffic singals(It can Instant Red when you only having less than 50m to the Singals) and Traffics(It may instant right turn and forcing you to stop around 7:53 ) on the road were RNG-based and making a unrecoverable delays.
And yeah the detections of "Re-accelerating in platform Penalty" were much longer than you see the size of platforms.

Well, it was probably relaxing for the passengers...

Ever played the GBC or NGPC versions?

    • @OldGameBox

I have the GBC one and I have to say it's quite good for a GBC game.
Never tried the NGPC but it looks so damn good that it almost makes me want to buy one. Have you played any of them?

    • @RyumaXtheXKing

I never played anythingin the series. Just found these two ports to be interesting from a technical perspective and wanted to know whether they are actually any good.

Ah, I see. It takes a while getting used to, I won't lie.
But from what I've seen from the GBC one, it works great, given the limitations. But it's one of those games where you can clearly see the difference when emulating and playing on the real thing, you know?
