I found this film entertaining even though it is very loosely based on the original story. Requiem was better though, and a more accurate depiction of what actually happenend. I remember seein Ruby all those years ago, probably nearer 30 years actually and remember being impressed. I was however only a sprog at the time...
Whilst the film’s terrifically acted, well directed & has an intriguing story, the film’s underwritten, badly paced & slow. (50%) (2.5/5 stars) (mixed)
Not a very good film at all. Can we agree that The Exorcist was the first and best film on the subject, and that anything else watches like a pale imitation?
Mark is a brilliant critic. An education in itself to listen to his reviews .
The problem for Kermode was it wasn't The Exorcist.
Good performances. I think the count room scenes work better than the supernatural stuff. It does feel melodramtic and gimmicky in places.
@highnine9 Danryth Dire wot does the 'most dangerous men' series. Do you enjoy him?
@highnine9 Oh right, I see. That is a comparison that Mark Kermode himself would be proud of. What is your opinion on Danryth Dire?
@highnine9 In what way do you mean 'wet' though?
