Thnx Elder. Second edition or expansions can rise score if this game but it’s already expensive so a game with such a few mechanics and not that good quality of the minis 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for this video. Very useful and convincing. I was debating to purchase this game or not, now I have a better idea. No theme but great artwork, that was what I thought at a first glance.

I have played this one a couple times. I am with you on the components, the art is well done but the minis are a bit disappointing. I expected a LOT better knowing the company behind the IP (sideshow). They specialize in very expensive busts\statues\figures i.e. you can spend over 600 USD for one figure. Also the kickstarter version came with dual layer boards, metal unity coins and different dice. All came together for a nice looking package with mostly mediocre minis.
The idea of the game is that the underworld inhabitants are fighting for control of the underworld while not drawing too much attention by the celestial's. you start by drafting cards that will gain you various benefits such as influence, cards with various effects and end game scoring, more ethereral, special one time use minis or unity(VP). You then spend influence to recruit different minis related to which influence you spend. You then send these minis out on the map to gain various benefits. Which mini you recruit is reflected on a faction track which gives you end of round bonus's specific to that particular mini. Between the drafting, jockeying for control over spots on the map, finding a balance between spending influence (worth VP at the end of the game) and trying to horde it for VP, trying to fulfill end game scoring cards, to trying to gather unique ongoing effect cards AND jockeying for majority on the specific faction tracks, there are a lot of options which give you lots of interesting things to think about. Another thing I thought was nice is that its not too hard of a teach and it plays quickly.
I think the games biggest fault is that there is a bit of disconnect between what you are doing and what the theme implies. Not a unique problem to this game but as the Greg pointed out could be a deal breaker. Sounds like it was for him. But if you enjoy the art and don't mind when mechanics dont perfectly match the theme I think this is a good game.
I do own this game but I received a kickstater version for free in case you were wondering if I have a "kickstarter backer bias"

It was a deal breaker and this was a reason game left our collection yesterday. We see no reason to play it more, when so many more engaging games are waiting in the lines. It’s a nice game to evolve your hobby from “catan” level to sth more complex but CotD is only a short stop on a bigger journey 🤷‍♂️

Never heard of this game before your review. Thanks for the review, but I think I am going to have to pass on this.
