    @Remote Chess Academy At 5:55 Pawn H3 may sound like a good counter-attack on Black's Knight but as Eric Rosen explained in his video on the Stafford Gambit, Black can respond with pawn H5 to not only recapture White's pawn on G4 when White takes Black's knight on G4, but it also opens up the H file for your Rook on H1, so black queen to D6 or H4 after your pawn retakes on G4 is forced mate on either G3 (if White does Pawn G3 since the black bishop pins White's pawn on F2) or H2, and White has no way to defend against that. th-cam.com/video/XkB4IVNaZWw/w-d-xo.html

      It's a fishing pole tactic. White is lost after hxg4 hxg4

    • @hp7639
      @hp7639 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      c3 pawn is the tactic to build on blocking bishop for that attack and the Stafford is Refuted. Seems to only work on lower rated players. It's fun but if opponent knows how to defend it you'll lose most of the time.

      Not sure Ryan is correct. 7. h3 is not the best move, but is not necessarily a bad move, as pawn to g3 can be later backed up by K-g2. For example (starting with move 7 (after 6. 00, N-g4. variation):
      7. h3 h5
      8. hxg4 hxg4
      9. g3 Qd6
      10. Kg2 Bxf2
      11. e5 Qh6
      12. Rh1 Qxh1+
      13. Qxh1 Rxh1
      14. Kxh1 Bxg3
      15. d4.... and, despite poor position and pawn deficit, White should be OK.

    alot of these positions are transpositions to familiar stafford territory, i think opponents who know the Nc3 h3 refutation wouldn't fall victim to this trap either. imma still try it and tell yall how effective it actually is for me tho

  • @stevengibson2251
    @stevengibson2251 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    3:18 This initial set up seems pretty easy to defend against: White Bishop from c4 to f7 (check). Black King takes White Bishop. Then white Queen to f3 (check). Black King vacates check and White Rook captures Knight on f2 (balancing out the loss of the Bishop). If the Black Bishop capture the Whites Rook on f2, then you simply capture it with White Queen still going down even and totally wrecking the Blacks attack.

      Black doesn't have to accept the bishop sac and can instead play Kd8. The only thing white can do at this point to survive would be Bg5+. After Qxg5 Rxf2 Bxf2 Kxf2 Qf6+ Kg1 Qxf7 Black is up a rook.

    I never get the gambit position So I would like to see options when they don't take your knight or even respond anything like that>I tend to see a lot of instant Queen attacks targeting my pawn/Rook and if defend they slide across and take for example the bishop that has nothing guarding it.

    The knight variation (of Rosen fame) is far superior.. because in the starting position of the gambit, the e4 pawn is already under attack..
    Just played an easy refutation... After Nf6, opponent goes Qf3 before castling! It supports the e4 pawn and keeps the knight rooted. If black attacks the queen with Bb4, queen just moves to f4.

    3.03 stupid question, sorry… I am a beginner. Why would white want to castle to this side?? I would rather castle to the Queen‘s side if I played white, because there is less activity by black on this side of the board. What’s wrong with this?

I still struggle with thinking about what my opponent can do. It's like I don't want to know. Life lessons here!!! When something in my life goes wrong my brain immediately thinks of checkmate!

    This was another money printer very popular in NYC Street chess, along with the ol' fishing pole. Key for white is seeing the price of pawn is weakness on black squares. C3 was my usual way of declining a toxic offer, bouncing the money back to me.

    You can really tell what openings are being shown on youtube at the time. Everyone has been trying to play this against me recently. I'm not complaining as I have better results with white in this opening than the stafford ! More dubious opening videos please it's great for my rating !

      Sadly, it makes the game both better with more competent openings, and boring if you literally watch TH-cam and know their playbook.
      Imagine the look on their face when you preemptively move the rook pawn up to block the knight, then proceed to mobilize pieces to castle Queen side instead

    Near the end of the video where White attempts to check Black's king, it is better to preserve the c5-g1 diagonal. You mentioned 11.Qg8+ Ke7 12.Qg7+ Rf7+ White would reply d4. The game would continue 13...Rxg7 14.dxc5 ...Black's attack diminishes. I would suggest that after 11.Qg8+ Rf8+ 12.Kh1 Rxg8 13.Bxg8 Qg3!! and White threatens mate.
