In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov shares with you the most successful chess opening gambit for White after 1.e4. It is the Haxo Gambit from the Scotch Game which has a massive win rate of 73% in the most played line.
It happens after the opening moves: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 exd4 4.Bc4. This prioritizes quick development of your pieces and a powerful attack against the Black's king. The crazy thing about this gambit is that the most natural looking moves by Black are losing badly!

The most amazing thing about this line is that in the first line, after 8. Qh5+ g6, the second most common move even among 2000+ level players is 9. Qe5+, apparently oblivious to the knight on C6. 24 players in the Lichess database at the 2000 level gave up their queens in this manner, although that is out of 13,781, so fewer than 1 in 500, but it is still a shocking blunder for that level. Even weirder, out of those 24 games, in 12 of the games, black responded with Qe7, in 2 of the games, black responded with Be7, and in 1 game, the move was Kf7.

There are some more variations to this attack. I don't personally play it, though maybe I'll practice it some. I do see it enough to know what needs to get done to hopefully get a relatively even position. Can be dangerous though as one slip up can easily lead to mate.
Thank you for this. I usually live on the unhealthy diet of fried liver or Italian with Danish gambit as dessert. Now I'll try the fried liver on steroids and how it tastes.

I played this gambit while watching the video, and while it didn't get exactly a Haxo, it was close enough I got a nice fork early😊
I am trying to get this one, it is like a Scotch, and then a little bit of a Evans into a
Dutch and then into a Jerome Gambit. I get the idea kinda. I am going to keep trying to get this one in a game.
Can you do other variations? Like if they dont take the gambit what to play / some other lines?

Hey Igor! I actually noticed something. On 9:50 it's still a good idea to Qh5+ simply because the king has nowhere to go except black squares, so when you do actually take the bishop you check him again and it's your move as opposed to black's move, even though you're in the same "final" position!

10:05 Of course it makes sense to first play Qh5+, because after that the king has to move on a dark square and we can take the bishop with check? Am I missing something?
I have some problems with 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 exd4 4. Bc4 Bb4+ According to Lichess it happens is only 7%, but I had such a move several times. Could you give some good ideas, GM Smirnov? @Remote Chess Academy , thank you in advance!

I just want to know if your opponent move the King on the same rank and can they castle after check and it move and check again and check and they castle because I know that went the king is move it is not allowed to castle and please let me know as soon as possible,please.
I play against this a lot(as black) & I don't face any problems now. This line is very easy for me. Also the first position idea of bishop sac is also there in Evans GAMBIT which only you taught me. ❤

At 5:53 I wouldn't castle cus this variable looks like the giuoco piano game which leads to the greco gambit. I will capture pawn at d4 and the bishop will give a check at c4. I'll then cover with the night to c3 hoping for night to capture at e4. Then I'll castle
Black played pawn f6 and I lost the game, I actually tried this thing about 10 times and players never responded like it shows in this video

I tried the Haxo gambit, however after d4, my opponent refused to take and went d6.I continued with Bc4 then they countered with Be6 which blocked my main attack. I decided to try fork by pushing to d5. After exchange of knight, pawn, pawn I was left with a knight that was pinning my queen but blundered... so with all that said, I'd love to see a video on various ways black could decline to take your d4 and how to handle it. I do like the idea of this gambit.

I play this a lot and sometimes get qe7 after I play bc4. What do I do then?
So the Fried Liver on Steroid from the Haxo is like a Lolli Attack, but the move orders prevent Black from playing the Polerio Defense.

Please if your oponent play 4... Nf6, play the king of gambits not that fried liver stuff, just keep up with 5.o-o Nxe4 (yes, gambit another pawn) 6.Nc3 dxc3 (yes, gambit a piece) and let your oponent taste the NAKHMANSON GAMBIT!! with 7.Bxe7 Kxe7 8.Qd5 and from this point on you are 2 pieces down and still can not loose.
The nakhmanson is like the haxo... but with steroids.

I am 1750 on lichess and i used to play the haxo gambit a lot back when i had juts begun.
I always had great positions with this gambit. The best part is thst this gambit is so easy to understand, no heavy theory or anything. All the moves for white are almost logical and chances to blunder are low.
I learnt it on my own, i never even knew that this gambit existed. It was only when i opened the analysis i realized this is a gambit.
I used to play it in a bit of a spahgetti way, mixing up moves but it was always a strong position.

It's both. It's the Scotch Gambit after 4. Bc4 and then it's also the Haxo Gambit if Black responds with 4... Bc5, according to lichess. So, the Haxo Gambit is variation that Black can play within the Scotch Gambit.

Black don't need to protect the pawn with the dark colored bishop as that bishop can give check to the white king. That can bring some disaster to white.
As a 1800 player i still dont know how to counter this

You can't use online win rates for traps because bots play the same scripted trap lines against each other over and over to artificially boost their ratings (and the botmaker then sells the account). Playing trap lines won't trigger the automatic bot detectors because computers don't fall for traps, and nothing stands out unusual in a manual review of the game (other than one side apparently fell for a trap).
No opponents are taking pxc3. I've had some wins with this gambit but opponents are never doing as you predict.
The first time i tried this I hung my horse on move 4 and proceeded to lose because i messed up move order lmao.
