- ( www.TFLcar.com ) On this 8th episode of A Diamond In the Rough, Ted and Roman continue work on the Diamond Jubilee. Today, the old Lincoln meets a brother, a pristine 1978 Diamond jubilee. Will the old girl ever look like this perfect Jubilee?
Ford built the 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V Diamond Jubilee Edition to celebrate the companies 75th year in the automobile business. A grand total of just 5,159 cars were built. To help celebrate the the 75th anniversary and to distinguish the car from other Lincoln Mark V the Diamond Jubilee was available in only two colors, Diamond Blue and Jubilee Gold. In this very special and very personal 8th episode Roman Mica and his British Car mechanic friend Ted Ax set out to restore and Roman's Dad's old and very neglected 1978 Continental Mark V Diamond Jubilee edition.

thing i love about old cars, the bumper doubles as a park bench!
Recently purchased a 1979 MKV Collectors Series and love it!!!
14 seconds and 10 mpg, the good old days...
In my years of watching TFLCar, this series by far is the most enjoyable, the most significant, the most heartening episodic tribute I can think of. Every guy out there who’s lost his Pappa can relate; it’s difficult for me to find a more fitting memoir for everything our Father’s meant to us..and more.
You need to join the Lincoln Continental Owners Club. Ive been a member since around 1975. Great club.
Keep up the good work Roman, btw it's not an old mans car. I love it!
As far as the dismal acceleration these cars were nearly 5000 pounds with carburetors, old school smog gear and what amounts to modern small V6 and even 4 cylinder hp. For the time though, they were about average but speed was not the point. Driving in utter isolation with little effort was the point.
Yes, to the 1978 Diamond Jubilee! I have the blue model in mint shape.
Drive it daily except in bad weather. About 12 mpg. Paul S.
Cherryfield, Maine.
Nice to see 2 in the same place for once
Jock Ewing drove one on Dallas. A real man's man's car.
love that these guy bother, and still cherish these....
I love this series. How's the old girl doing? I hope to see more videos on this car soon!
Love these vids! Keep em coming!
Fun cars. Those Diamond Jubilees are special. I miss my 76 Mark IV, but eould love to have z simple 72 with no Opera windows and do a nice custom job.
These cars can actually be made to go very fast, and still ride like a ☁️
7 Heaven 👍
Very cool video!
Sweet car , like the guy's passion for it. The color on that is similar to one my favorite Lincoln's , the one that was featured on the Cannon T.V. series.
I love this series.
Not sure how less aerodynamic the Mark V could get, it already has the drag coefficient of a brick outhouse.
It is nice to see what a properly restored Mark looks like, gives a better idea of what needs doing and what it will cost. As long as the cost, time and effort are doable go for it. Oh, and tell your wife the exact costs, less a certain fudge factor percentage, you know like about 50% of the real cost. If worse comes to worse you have enough in the Mark to set up housekeeping in it ;-)
Lovin' this series, lookin' forward to future eps
When will you see how many Nathans fit in the trunk?! xD
Old man's car my ass.. I'm 27 n I'm jonsin for one!
Nice! Seats built into the front bumpers. Roman, good attempt to steal the hood ornament.
Nice fun episode. +1 on the Seafoam, then a five mile drive at 60 in second gear will do wonders provided the cooling system will hold pressure. CAT may go also, but would of been on the way out anyways. Flipping the air filter lid over always helps those boats inhale better. :)
When are we getting the next episode!!! I love the series
Hey guys...i picked up a 70 Mark III with a 460....365 hp....and for 5030 lbs with me...its petty dam fast....it will smoke one tire a long way...and it's a he'll of a lot of fun to drive....maybe if you swap heads n intake with an earlier 460....you could improve that lazy performance...set of duels would also help...
All these years since this video was made and I'm wondering if either of these guys have put the plastic gap trim that is directly behind the front bumper where it is supposed to be and that's with the front leading edge of the plastic gap trim going UNDER the rearward edge of the front bumper. They are never supposed to be reversed with the plastic gap trim going over the back side of the bumper just the same as was the front end on my 1978 Thunderbird - I loved that car. As they are shown (extremely visible when they were using the front bumpers as seats) they are reversed and thus causing my OCD to kick in. Now pardon me, I just have to go and wash my hands again.
And again.
Romans been hitting that colarado green!
I just noticed that the Mk V has the same interior roof light as my Australian 1984 Ford LTD. Literally identical. Haha. I also have a Lincoln hood ornament to be fitted momentarily. :P
This video has motivated me to get my LTD back on the road. Cheers.
22 k miles only ??? this is like owning a true treasure
Cool car, I just saw a pristine 78 Thunderbird Diamond Jubilee version. Same exact color etc.
My guess is that the old car will run better with new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. I would then replace the PCV valve and breather element as well. With that car sitting around for so many years, the carburetor would probably stand some good cleaning as well.
i have the same car and live in belgium ! the car was make for : inez e Benson....verry good series !!!!
Love this last video good to know how much parts cost
you heard the man ....SEAFOAM!!
That thing needs shocks in a bad way. You can see the tires bouncing when you do the close up during the 0-60 run.
Some feedback to the TFLCar: I bet a lot of the people viewing this series have been following it from the beginning, so it makes no sense to show older clips in new episodes. For example, the 0-60 run in this one. Maybe if you do wanna do a flashback, only show the highlights and do it in black and white, otherwise it feels like deja vu.
Other than that, I really like this series, probably the only reason I'm subscribed. :)
I should say, this series of videos.
put a cam and some stiffer valve springs in that 460 with a better carb.. wake that thing right up
Gotta run some Sea Foam through the old 460 maybe she'll pick up some power and maybe get it under 14 seconds lol
Holy shit, I'll bet even a clapped-out Geo Metro could out-run one of these old barges.14 seconds to 60 is scary slow.
just curious did that car or those two cars have dual exhaust that would have helped it a little bit
Bohemia Lite the nicer mark v did have dual exhaust
Roman, why don't you wear the TFLCar shirt?
I really can't find those prices mentioned. Has so much changed since airing this episode?
I'm neither really old or addicted to meth, and I absolutely love this car. That's why I own a Mark V. You, my good man are very very arrogant.
Does HE have the umbrella ?
I've had 2 Ford's of the same lineage: a '76 Mark V, and a '76 Thunderbird, both with 460's.
Both were great driving cars and both were pigs in the performance/gas mileage categories. The T Bird had about 55K miles and was pristine, with a dealer tune up (they REALLY got a kick out of this), correct alignment, tire pressure, and still delivered a paltry 14 MPG. Top speed of 115. A real pooch, but I loved this car. SMOOTH, quiet, and reliable.
This is NOT a performance car. Luxo-barge.
I remember the Bookies in Brooklyn driving these back in the late 70s and early 80s. They were a symbol of easy money and illegal activities. I can't wait to see what you do with it.
He was embarrassed of how much money he spent restoring it. That's a true car guy. It'd be even better if the car had no resale value
i have one like this baby . i do love it very match
I have the option to get a mark v for $1100, it needs some interior work, paint, and it has some mechanical problems, do you think I should get it?
Performance are not important in a luxury car but we may need more torque to make it move uphill
Is this episode 7 or 8?
I have a '78 continental and it rattles too
roman what is your personal car that you drive
Maybe you'll restore an Aries K car when you're done with this one.
More more
K more resto, less speed test ok. We all know these cars are slow & don't care.
👍👍👍👍👍
the younger guy shud have mentioned LINCOLNLAND!
i do
It says "8" so I have to assume it's 8.
It said 7 in the title when i commented
i own one so i fuckin do
it's ok, not everybody understands lincoln marks u go ahead and drive your euro box
either that or you don't have a car at all
it's just a used car. people really need to stop referring to any car over 3 years old as "classic."
It's almost 40 years old. Pretty classic if you ask me.
fix the body already and cut the bs
It was nice when it was new, but at this day and age, quit wasting your money. Didn't your mother have an Impala you can restore?
nah bullshit mate
no one cares.
the worst cars ever made by Lincoln.. Maybe the worst cars ever made by anyone..
