    I wanna fix my underbite, But my parents won't let me wear braces. And it's one of my most biggest insecurities, because it affects the way I talk, the way I sing and my face. My underbite is like 1/2 Inches I think? And I really love to sing, but sometimes my underbite just destroys it-

    Also, what would be the ideal age range?

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I would get a few opinions from different dentists and specialists with this treatment and if under 18 years old seriously consider braces before just cosmetic treatment. If the condition is mild and the position of the back teeth are good, minor orthodontics could correct it. However, some times things look mild but the back teeth are the issue and then things get more complex. Also if the condition is related to the jaw position and jaw growth, this is more complex. It's very hard to give a cost. Minor braces could be AU$5000 where as jaw surgery with braces and cosmetics could be AU$50,000. You need to understand your options depending on your individual case.

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ayna - you have great English! It may be possible to just have braces however this depends on what is the cause of the underbite and what your goals are. As discussed previously, there are 4 reasons for an underbite. 1. the teeth are in the wrong positions. 2. The upper jaw is underdeveloped 3. The lower jaw is overdeveloped 4. Combination of 1-3. This will then determine the treatment. Careful planning and diagnosis is critical and asking the patient for their final outcome is critical. Some patients will be happy with a cosmetic change and others a full profile change with an ideal outcome. It's best to get several options and best to talk with a cosmetic dentist and an orthodontist and get the pros and cons of all options. I hope this help. Thanks for watching.

    Hey, I have a question and I’d really appreciate it if you took the time to answer . I’m 18 years old and I have an underbite and a cross-bite . I used to wear a palatal expander when I was 9 years old but I stopped with the treatment because my family couldn’t afford it . The orthodontist said that I had to wear the palatal expander for a year and then an headgear to fix my underbite&cross-bite . Well my question is, Do you think there’s a chance I need a jaw surgery because that was 9 years ago and my jaw is less sensitive than it was when I was younger.

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      weniseme - Most people that have jaw and profile changes to their appearance is due to "extraction orthodontics". It's difficult to give you personal recommendations however the removal of teeth to create space to correct crowded teeth was very common and now less after facial changes were noticed as you have mentioned. The biggest issue was that many extraction cases were completed on young teenagers before their growth spurt and there was no predictive diagnostic completed to see how their jaw would final grow - some research says that jaw growth progresses through to early- to mid-20's. This is very routine now and most current orthodontists have predictive software that can help with planning. Extraction treatment is far less common and looking at the patients jaw growth and airway is critical. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting. X

      @Advanced Dental Artistry My son is 11.5 years old and has an underbite. It is not severe underbite but the orthodontist said have to pull 2 lower teeth, if no pull teeth, surgery. I’m thinking of canceling this orthodontist. Please advise if it’s possible with no extraction for underbite. He will be wearing face mask first then put on braces, pull 2 adult teeth when it shows up. There is another orthodontist that will still do 2 phase for him. Is that a better option since he’s still growing?

    Do I have an underbite? When my lower jaw is relaxed, bottom teeth stick out in front of upper teeth. When I speak I notice lower teeth teeth protruding out in front of my upper teeth. I can physically pull back lower jaw behind upper teeth to form a proper bite but it’s not comfortable and when I chew it’s wearing the back of my front teeth out. It effects my speech enunciation because there’s tension when I force my lower teeth behind my upper teeth. Do I have an underbite? The fact that “I can” attain a proper bite with effort eliminate possibility of underbite and it’s something else? Thank you!

      a retainer will get them back to normal, it'll just take some time. you have to wear the retainer (usually) every night forever, it might seem like a lot of work, but you're sleeping and no one will see you, its purpose is to keep your teeth straight and aligned so you don't end up needing braces again. don't worry, a retainer will fix it

    Can the maxilla be expanded and moved forward instead to fix a mild underbite to also help improve the overall face features? Such as better facial profile, fuller face, more prominent cheek bones etc.

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes this is possible. It's always critical to know the CAUSE of the problem. Is it just the teeth in the wrong position? An over developed lower jaw - too big? An underdeveloped upper jaw - too small? Or a combination of all 3 problems? From here you can determine the best options and treatment. If the mid-face is the issue - the upper jaw (maxilla) is underdeveloped - then your suggestion is correct and changing will alter the mid face and profile. Thanks for watching. Take care

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth

      This was a complex case and the cost was over AU$20,000. There was porcelain on all back teeth for bite and some porcelain on several front teeth for cosmetics. Costs can be higher or lower with complex treatment. Shaun went to see several orthodontists and oral surgeons for options and 2nd/3rd opinions. Cost where similar (or higher) and he made a decision for porcelain over the other options. It's very important for anyone considering complex medical or dental procedures to do their research and seek various opinions before commencing treatment.

      Braces or braces with jaw surgery can fix this. You will been to have careful diagnostics to see which would be the best for you depending on the severity of the jaw position. Seek an excellent orthodontists for this treatment. All the best

    How do I fix a protruding chin if I have an overbite?

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is software than can analysis your profile and the chin position relative to various landmarks on the face and skeleton. It will know the bony chin position and the soft tissue chin position and if there is excessive bone, soft tissue, or both treatment options can be given.

    I have a mid line shift in the upper jaw and my teeth are migrating towards the side where i dont have a tooth. Moreover i have an underbite too. What treatment should I undergo?

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would suggest seeking a few opinions. It's difficult to give exact treatment actions without all the information. General for midline and underbite issues a specialist orthodontist is the best person to assess this. I hope this helps

    If u have an underbite and you put braces on the top teeth does it all move into place or would I have to get surgery

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This depends. An underbite can be due to the teeth and/or the jaw bones. If it the jaw bone - overdeveloped (large) lower jaw, underdeveloped (small) upper jaw or both - surgery is generally required. If the problems is mainly the teeth - the position of the teeth create the underbite - then this can be corrected by change the teeth position with braces or cosmetic treatment. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    Could i get surgery at 15?

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Giselle - you need to wait until complete jaw growth which is around 21 years old. You cannot do this until the mouth and teeth are stable and at 15 there is still changes that will occur. I would recommend a consultation with an orthodontist ASAP as they can possibly do "growth modification" and correct an underbite without surgery or complex treatment. The sooner they can diagnose and look at options the more choices you have. Hope this helps. X

    I have a underbite and ive been with every orthodontist and they told me I need surgery, im 19 and i went to this one orthodontist saying it can be fixed with a palate expander since my upper jaw is recessed to my underbite. Is it possible that a palate expander will bring forward my upper jaw at age 19?

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bryan - each case is different and orthodontics is not my area. There is a DNA expander that I have heard of and palatal expansion is possible IF the upper is deficient is size. Underbite can be cause by an overgrown LOWER jaw so expanding the upper is not recommended if the lower jaw is the issue. There are perimeters - measurements from the lateral ceph radiographic - that will indicate exact what the cause of the problem is and the best way to correct it. Normally there is a combination of upper and lower issues - either teeth position and/or bone. This will then determine what is the best correct and remove the guesswork out of treatment planning. Hope this helps

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Braces should correct an underbite not increase it. The ideal of braces is to improve the jaw/teeth position to an ideal (or as close as possible) bite.

      Hi Subha - we are in Australia. It's best to get recommendations from other people and look for a few dentists in your city. Get 2nd opinions if you are very unsure of treatment recommendations and find someone you feel comfortable with and listens to your goals. Take care and thanks for watching. X
