    Very good review of a very good game. I actually played this first in the series way back when I was a little kid and was one of the first RPGs I ever played. I don't think I'd be nearly as devoted to the genre without this game inspiring me from so young. But I can honestly say, this is still my favorite game of all time and I replay it regularly.
    It was strange once I finally got a hold of its predecessor to see characters I recognized but didn't realize crossed over (it was so weird seeing Flik so hotheaded or Luc as a mischievous prankster!). I actually think playing Suikoden II first enhanced my experience, since I recognized so many of the references and it made me happy to know a bit more about who the characters would grow to be.

    I'm in shock that you don't have more followers. You my good sir is awsome, clear and great speech for us that don't have english as our main, pace is great, so is facts.
    Only real complain might be the overuse of "unite family attack" XD
    Great video and you got a new sub right here!
    Proud owner of original releases of Suikoden 1-5...love them=)

      +Fredrik Jonsson Wow thanks! Loved the Suikoden series said to see it being ignored by both Konami (might be a good thing) and many people.

    the narrative of Jowy and the main character in this game is only rivaled by brothers a tale of two sons. these two friends are so effectively established that the story that ends up taking place between them is absolutely heartbreaking

    this game had such powerful story moments. without spoiling the 'bad ending" + Shu scene was one of the most emotionally charged moments i have seen in a game

    The feels are strong on this one. Suikoden II will make you cry for the right reasons.
    And Luca Blight is the best villain of the PSX era by a longshot. Most epic boss fight of all time.
    Cooking contests + Sauna for the win!!

    Luca maybe one dimensional in most aspects but the way they exaggerate how evil he is, is why you want to take him down but u know you'll never be able to beat.

    Agree with everything said. For 20 years Final Fantasy 6 was far and away my favorite JRPG until I played this. This is the benchmark against which all JRPGs should be compared, especially the retro ones. Only complaint is that the game requires you to do something very specific with literally a single second window IN ADDITION to recruiting all 108 stars to get the best ending. The difference in ending is huge, so it's a substantial ding. Aside from this, it is the perfect JRPG.

    Fuck Yeah!!! I love this game, I borrowed it from a friend in high school and burned my entire weekend playing it. It drew me in that well, the characters, the battles, the music and that final feeling when you beat it. This game was all kinds of awesome!

    Thanks for those great reviews, I'm a bit late to the party, but I needed to learn a bit more about Suikoden games because of the Vita summer sales : ) Now I'm hesitating cause I think suikoden 1 looks a bit rough compared to this one, I'd like to start with suikoden 2 but there's this story link... anyway, great channel, liked and subbed !

    Great video man as always. I am so gald that Suikoden 2 got put on PSN because there was no way I was going to pay those crazy prices for a game even if it was the best game ever made. I have had the game since it went up PSN and I have the first game as well on PSN so I need to get around to playing them. Also it is great that the online commmunity manager Yuichi for the North American branch of Konami has been streaming the Suikoden games on Twitch.tv to stir up interest in the series and he is working really hard to show Konami Japan that people outside of Japan want the Suikoden games. I watch it every week day from 6:30PM (Eastern Standard Time) to 8:30PM (Eastern Standard Time) or at least those the times down here in Florida that the stream is live on www.twitch.tv/konami.

    • @Changetheling
      @Changetheling 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey; that's amazing.
      Every new indie game should have this game to look up to.
      I think the internet should know more about Do Re Mi elves, MukuMuku and Clive vs Elza strange affair.
      The music should also be mentioned more often as well.
      Indeed, Suikoden II should be played by every audience.
      Not a 'must' , but a 'should' game (like Okami).

    This is a great game. I haven't dug it out since I beat it, but maybe I should. Definatly one of the best RPGs ever.

  • @mielthesquid6536

    Minor points:
    -war battles are overly scripted, most of them are basically playable cut scenes.
    -critical sound bugs in the US release : no music for a lot of war battles, if there's some it's glitchy and don't loop correctly. Also, other musics are missing in the game : the song the singer should play when you recruit her and the very last duel of the game on the cliff.

    • @XTORD1
      @XTORD1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      well i havent seens and sound bugs in the europe versiion tough i am only 20 hrs in it. But i found the war battles more then ok so far. And atm this is a game that has that magic in it , i am loving it so far. There is a weird reason but suikoden 2 is hitting me on so many notes that i wont be suprised if is going to be on of my absolute favourite games ever.

    The only problems I have with this game are the audio glitches. Having silent war battles is a bit inexcusable

    This Luca villain sounds a lot like Ashnard from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. Also, there's a character named Camus.

    I still think S1 has the better main character and a more balanced soundtrack as some of S2's tracks are really annoying. I also think S2 peaks 3/4s of the way through the game after the Luca battle (easily the highpoint of the series.)

    It sounds interesting, but I cannot avoid to think that an story about politics and war in a fantasy-themed setting it's done better in western RPGs (most notably in the Witcher series).
    Have you played the Witcher games?

    • @TheGamingPilgrimage
      @TheGamingPilgrimage  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      luis enrique vargas azcona I'd argue Suikoden 2 handles these themes just as good if not better than most western RPGs. I happen to be a huge Witcher fan, read the books and loved the games.

    • @Changetheling
      @Changetheling 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Witcher series fan here.
      Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XII are as complex and even more grandiose in scope than Witcher's.
      (no tie-it-all miracle child plot; story told before, during, and after the war, etc. We could use the term "different type of stories").
      Suikoden II is among these 2 games in the way it tells ALL of the characters' stories.
      Luca Blight is like Emhyr var Emreis meets Spider Man's Carnage.
      *No Witcher game has a central boss fight like Suikoden II* .
      *Of course there are not 36 endings. Of course they didn't have a AAA budget.
      Of course its scope is much, much smaller. Of course it runs even on Android* .
      That's why having 100+ characters to recruit in such a small space means *more meaningful storytelling* .
      There are ties that bind, duties, and different levels and reasons to fight you witness at every level,
      Witchers are huge self-contained episodic stories (without reaching Mass Effect levels of continuity).
      *Suikoden II is made of many different and equally meaningful stories* .
      Like comparing a baroque Novel central character to a 30-year long-running Manga character,
      you eventually realize comparing is absurd when there's so much missing information
      to make comparisons in the first place.
      Is it better? Not at all. Is it for all? Of course not.
      Is it worth playing, specially in this era of oversaturated, motion-captured, triggered-happy 3D resources?
      Of course.
      Also: *best boss fight of all time* .
      Mark my words.

    Is Luca a better villain than Kefka?

    • @TheGamingPilgrimage
      @TheGamingPilgrimage  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      gilgamesh310 depends, Kefka kinda ended the world so he might be better by merit of body count and total destruction. Luca on the other hand is more believable within his acts of evil (like humiliating people before killing them) and is better presented as a villain imo. To be perfectly honest I think Kefka (and to some extent most ff villains), is overrated, if he didn't end the world nobody would remember him.
