The institute offers various mountaineering courses, including basic and advanced mountaineering courses, rock climbing courses, and adventure courses. It also houses a museum that displays various mountaineering equipment and exhibits on the history of mountaineering in the Himalayas. The institute is located on Jawahar Parbat in Darjeeling and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
The Darjeeling Zoo, also known as the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, is located adjacent to the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. It was established in 1958 and is home to various endangered species of animals, including the Himalayan Black Bear, Red Panda, and Snow Leopard. The zoo also has a breeding program for the endangered Red Panda species. The zoo is spread over an area of 67.56 acres and is a popular tourist attraction in Darjeeling.
