My great great grandfather was the contractor when this road was constructed. He was the no. 1 contractor at his times, and even the govt. had given him the title of "Rai Saheb Kharga bahadur". Not only the Hill cart road, he was involved with many construction in and around darjeeling, including the Municipality building, the current SBI bank and others. proud to be a part of his legacy. Thanks cord for covering the history of Darjeeling. At times many people label us as foreigners, but our forefathers were the ones who actually built this place from ground, thus establishing the current "World's Nicest Place".
Just got it ramdomly ,your way to storytelling in a documentary is superb ......not even realised for a second to become bored ......great video, amazing and it is interesting love from siliguri
amazing ....very educational .....this type of documentary should be made more often about darjeelings each corner.... becuase our young genertion is forgetting what our ancestors has sacrificed to make this darjeeling what it is now......and my request is to make documentary of cincona plantation, coffee, orange, brooms amazing farmings of darjeeling which is been unseen by govt and darjeeling nowadays and its dying day by day please do the needful before its totally vanished from darjeeling 🙏🙏🙏🙏♥
Amazing...we used to visit Darjeeling in the early 80s and stay in an army guesthouse in Jalapahar. It was huge and a beautiful British house. The local family who used to take care of the property were so sweet and lovely. We used to play with their children, and I still remember the weather being misty there, playing in the garden, enjoying the fireplace in the huge living room, and relishing the pork chops made by the chef there. What lovely memories. I have not been to Jalapahar since then. Would love to see it after almost four decades.
Cord is doing good work with respect to easy and thorough understanding of the hills and it's historical development. Kudos to Pankaj and the whole team.
Thank you for the Informative content. I think there used to ply bullock cart in this road as well as road towards kalimpong from Siliguri Later on Himalayan railway extended upto Gelkhoka by side of river Teesta mainly for the transportation of wools of Tibet. From Tibet to Kalimpong wools and other items used to carry by mule through Jalepla pass.
Thanks cord. Thodi baohut memories hai, came to darjeeling once in my childhood. Us time shayad bus chala karti thi, Shanti safar, Kailash and Omega I remember isi road se chalte the, cant recall much though. Good to know history of this road. 👍👍
Without The British there would not have been any Darjeeling, any West Bengal, any India, any democracy, any educated Indian, any Toy Train. Pay respect to those who made all these possible over which people fight now.
