    My fiance is Czech. Things you've missed out that YOU MUST GET WHEN VISITING:
    Svíčková. (Svichkova). Basically thinly sliced sirloin with bacon cooked until it's super tender. This is served with a blended root vegetable sauce with whipped cream and cranberries. This is one of the most delicious things I look forward to whenever I visit. It is savory, a little sweet, and when my fiance's grandma makes it, it's 100% to die for. You can get a good one at Local, the place where you had the fried cheese.
    Vepřové koleno: Pork Knuckle. This is slowly roasted, savory, and SO MUCH BETTER than the tourist trap ham you guys got! If you want to eat the real stuff, this is what you want.
    Tartarak: Steak Tartare, Czech style. You get an amazing portion of tartare with crispy bread that you rub raw garlic on before you eat it together with the meat. This is probably the best thing to eat with beer. Period.
    Česnečka: Garlic soup. Best hangover cure ever.

    Langosh and the strudel with the cheese was what I was told that was typical in Hungary. The tredelnik is known in Prague but also seen in other of the neighbor countries. The potato pancakes are soo typical from that side of the world specially from Poland; just like the cream roll. The open sandwich is all over the place from Slovakia to Norway. Goulash is in Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, etc they just love there stews. Anyhow a lot of the foods are all over the place having such close and small countries, which is awesome if u don't visit all of the countries but u can still try them.

    0.35 Langos is from Hungary. - a very bastardized version at the naplavka market as well
    1.39 Halusky is from Slovakia - It is made with a special cheese called bryndza and it is the national dish of slovakia
    2.15 Bramborak is a common food among central and eastern europe. In the US, we may know them as Latkes. Czechs usually eat bramborak plain with beer and not as a taco. Very legit bramborak from Kantyna .
    8.55 "not sure it is something that a local would eat, but we are here, and gonna try it anyway..." They are right about that, praguers would not be spending 1000 czech crowns for that "not" prague ham. They would be going to a deli "lahudky" and buy the same amount of thin sliced ham for chlebicky for 100 crowns. Those Prague Ham booth on Old Town Square are there for the sole purpose of scamming tourists.
    9.57 Mulled wine is actually popular all over Europe...IN THE WINTER." Definitely not a "Must-Try." Anyway I like the Mulled Wine from the Christmas Markets in Bavaria. Czechs would not drink mulled wine on a warm day.
    I do have to say that going to Lokal and Mysak (Been open since the Austro-Hungarian Empire) was nice to show what some of the Praguers are eating, but the best chlebicek come from those Czech fast food restaurants called "jidelna" or/and "lahudky."

      Exactly! Typical chlebíček is not what is shown in the video. It looks like more modern version which is nice, but not traditional at all. Lokal restaurants are quite good but also little bit overhyped for tourists. There are more interesting restaurants and even cheaper.

    To all the people going "its slovak, its czech, its hungarian". Honestly, I dont think it matters that much. 30years ago, it was Czechoslovakia, bit over 100years ago it was just Austria Hungary (with no slovakia at all, just hungary). Basically one lifetime (tho, end of the lifetime :D )
    When it comes to food, our 3 countries are basically one country. Some many of our cuisines and traditions lived and mingled together for centuries, in a single country...

    -German Kartoffelpuffer - Potato pancake
    -Slovak Halousky
    -Slovak Trdelnik
    And a goddamn kolbasa which is possibly the most Central-European thing imaginable as you can get an immense diversity and astonishing quality of it in: Czech Republic, Germany, Poland and Hungary so technically speaking it is as unique for Czechia as the Beans are for Latin America - the whole continent eats it!

      It's funny because the guy they did the beer video with ,Janek, has made videos about most of this stuff. Like it's a running 'joke' how much they despise Trdelnik for being seen as traditional Czech food but it's not. He's also made videos about those scammy food stalls on old town square. It's literally his job. It's like they didn't even bother and wanted to be uneducated.

    Great video! I especially love the part about Prague ham in the city centre. Yes, the food is the most delicious and fresh ham you will try in Prague but did you also know that the owner donates most of his profits to charities? Look it up, it's actually a charity foundation that runs it! So awesome!

    An absolutely typical example of tourist mistakes in the Czech Republic.
    Langos - it is a Hungarian dish. Halušky - Slovak dish. Strudl - German dish. Klobása - Hungarian/German dish. Goulash - Hungarian dish. Prague ham - a notorious tourist trap, an overpriced sausage that a good 90 percent of Czechs have never eaten in their lives. Svařák - an Austrian drink. Trdelník - a Hungarian dish and another notorious tourist trap. What you've correctly identified as Czech dishes are: Chlebíček, Bramborák (although hashbrowns originated earlier, the recipe differs slightly, more Czech dish would be "bramorová placka"), větrník, kremrole, fried cheese and beer.
    So your video about "Czech dishes" is 50% wrong and only shows tourist traps and dishes that have absolutely nothing to do with the Czech Republic. You are only mystifying potential tourists, next time take advice from locals before you film similar misleading nonsense.

    • @Pyrochemik007
      @Pyrochemik007 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ana-hz3dl Hi, hope it is not too late.
      1 - a must eat - svíčková, it can be translated as candle sauce, but the candle refers to the most expensive meat in cow. It is a vegetable sauce based on carrot and 2 other root vegetables, mixed with sour cream. Served with the mentioned meat and bread dumplings. Plus cranberry jam on top. Since this meal is kinda sweetish, order beer too.
      2 - rajská - also sauce, but this one is made from tomatoes (which give it name in czech). But it does not resemble ketchup at all. It is not spicy, but it has strong taste.
      3 - goulash (guláš) - a reliable food to eat in almost any pub. Based of onions, meat and paprica spice. Czech variant is mildly spicy, even kids can eat it.
      4 - ovocné knedlíky - original czech food, dumplings stuffed with fresh fruit and shortly steamed. Covered in "tvaroh", which is a milk product similar to cottage cheese, but dry and is used in sweet products. Then powdered sugar and melted butter and sour cream. This is a main dish, and yes, it is sweet (and sour). Not diet food at all, but not heavy and it is vegetarian.
      5 - topinka - this is rather a snack when you go to pub for a beer. Imagine slice of bread, not toast one, the european brownish one. Then you cut off the outside layer, and fry it, until it is crispy. On that oily cripsy bread you wipe garlic, spread moustard and place mixed fried eggs. Or various raw vegetables, spreads, tartar steak and other things. Such food in stomach prevents you to get drunk quickly.
      6 - sour lentil mash. This here is centuries old meal. Way before we imported tomatoes, potatoes or even spices. What poor people ate were various beans, pea, lentils and chickpeas. And this particular variant is sour, which s quite surprising taste. And even more surprising is, how the meal tastes better and better with each bite. I mention it because it is great food for vegetarians to learn, usualy served with boiled eggs or grilled sausage.
      7 - knedlo, zelo, vepřo - literaly means dumplings, saeurkraut and pork. Pork is roasted, dumplings boiled or steamed and sauerkraut is shortly boiled. In similar variants you can find duck, chicken, rabbit...
      8 - a lot of meals is using meat from hunted animals, and the recipes are very local. Deers, boars and hares are the most often. Usualy requires specialised restaurant.
      9 - fish meals. And it means fresh water meals. Make sure it is good restaurant, it takes a good chef to cook them, and big clientele to eat fresh food. Frozen and defrosted tastes poorly. Avoid carp (kapr).
      10 -when you do not wanna risk, you do not trust the pub but you are hungry, go for fully fried meal. Either schnitzels (řízek) or fried cheese (smažák). Heat sterilizes. Plus almost everyone eats deepfried food.

    Langoš is hungarian food, not czech. Halušky are slovak food. Strudel is german. Klobása looks hungarian. Veternik is actually french profiterole. Czech guláš is parody on hungarian gulyás. Old prague ham is actually new prague scam.(It is only tourist trap, nothing czech about it) Svařák is just bad wine. Trdelník is more like old hungarian empire food, i think it has romanian origin but then expanded to hungary and slovakia in it's traditional forms. Don't eat trdelník at czech republic, it is awful. In slovakia we have Skalický trdelník, which is great. Chlebíčky is actually authentic czech food, also bramborák and czech beer is very distinct unless you drink eurobeer. You missed Vepřo knedlo zelo, Svíčková, Utopence and Řízek. Řízek is parody on wienerschnitzel, but great tasting parody. My favourite is "blbouny" , czech take on steamed buns they are similar to slovak "parené buchty", but good and distinct. (Actually I think this came to our region from mongolia)

    • @Runemonk
      @Runemonk ปีที่แล้ว

      Czech goulash is amazing but really different to hungarian one. Telling it's parody is really unrespectful because it's really hard to cook perfectly. I really doubt someone from abroad come to Czech Republic, will study deeply from which country is every food. We were AustroHungarian Empire once. Shared food, culture and economics. It's pretty lame to classify every food, especially when it's different version from neighbor country. I could also tell your country is parody because Slovakia should thank Czech Republic for helping to build infrastructure, factories and so one. But it would be inappropriate. I respect every country traditions, culture and food, no matter of history. So I ask you to do the same. Thanks.

    • @balk0vic
      @balk0vic ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Runemonk Ok, I respect traditions to that extent, that I rather eat Blbouny or ovocné knedliky in Czechia, at least it's authentic food and you put correct things in it. Telling that czech goulash is hard to cook might be sign of over complicating the recipe. Goulash is one of the easiest foods to cook, if done properly. I am fan of Italian-American channel The pasta theory. And they show, how to cook Italian food properly. Americans tend to butcher the food with strange ingredients and over complicating things. You can argue, that they are making authentic American food. No, it's just Italian food done wrong. Most of the time, the easiest recipes are the best. I think the situation is the same with Czech Goulash.

    • @Runemonk
      @Runemonk ปีที่แล้ว

      @@balk0vic it's not overcomplicated. But some food requires skill to cook it perfectly. Goulash it's not hard because of ingrediences but because of balancing the taste. To be honest I am not a fan of American cousine, I rather prefer Europe and Asia for tradition and variation.
