If you ride with SEPTA Key Cards on Regional Rail and you tap to open your trip, get the trip opening inspected and closing the trip afterwards, the fare payment finalized goes through when exiting. The first two taps is to recognize the card and the last tap is when the payment goes through so you have to use the same card for all points of your trip.
That’s right. The way the Key Card works on Regional Rail is a self serve fare payment system. You have control over the funds on the card but at the same time, the tap-ride-tap system will let you know if you have or were charged the adequate fare. Plus, tap-ride-tap will help SEPTA keep track of ridership on Regional Rail
You can still pay with cash to the conductor on board the train when traveling to a center city station from an outbound station. You can pay with credit/debit cards too. The conductor will issue you a quick trip so you can swipe it at the turnstile to exit the station in center city. If the conductor didn’t sell you a fare on board, you have to purchase an exit quick trip at the exit fare kiosk to exit the station turnstiles. When traveling from center city, you have to purchase a quick trip at the kiosk or sales window (if open) to go through the turnstiles and have the quick trip ready to show to the conductor on the train
Amazing how to video on how a person is riding a regional railroad train. However, this How to ride the regional rail looks exactly like how to ride the railroad on New Jersey Transit. 🙂
Why is it so difficult to obtain a key card? The machines at 30th Street Station were broken and so was the customer service (not) provided by the human attendants.
Stop doing that please, you are going to make them put more of the unjumpable turnstiles in. Which of course is going to cost alot of money, which will make the SEPTA costs go up more. Not only that, but the unjumpable turnstyles that SEPTA has breaks alot sometimes, and then you can't even get through.
I think they’d use a receipt or a barcode on a ticket or something to go through them if they didn’t use a SEPTA Key Card. Believe it or not, Amtrak train tickets for Philadelphia give you free SEPTA Regional Rail access between 30th Street and either Suburban or Jefferson Stations (as like getting into Center City from your Amtrak train and vice versa), and the barcode on those Amtrak travel documents/tickets are to be scanned on the turnstiles of the SEPTA Regional Rail Stations.
