Ester has become such an icon. I deeply admire her and her work. I'm an avid listener of her podcast. She really models what it is like to be a femenist and yet have a deep compassion for men. In a time when people are so divided and ego driven, she is a champion for relationships and what holds us together, despite our flaws, our mistakes and our diferences.
I’ve been reflecting on some criticism I’ve received for interrupting Esther too much throughout this conversation. In general, this is a recurring complaint. Sometimes (often) it's well-deserved. Other times, it's intentional. These are conversations, not interviews. I'm always trying to cultivate something more dynamic than Q&A. If a guest is monologuing or venturing off on a tangent, I see it as my job to interject and direct the trajectory of the experience. But I can also own that maybe I do this too much and too often. In the case of Esther, I will also admit that I was nervous. She is a force of nature--and the idea of laundering the intimacies of my marriage with her in a very public forum requires a level of vulnerability I think anyone would agree is a bit intimidating. Looking back, perhaps I was compensating for my nervousness by talking too much. Not an excuse but maybe an explanation. Anyway, thank you for the feedback. I'm grateful for the opportunity to share her insights with all of you and glad many people are enjoying her powerful message. Cheers, r
Huge respect to you Rich for being so vulnerable, it must have been really hard for you and you were extremely open and honest. Not many men would open up on such a sensitive topic as sexual intimacy in their marriage. When you talk you're reflecting on what's being said and digesting it and making sense of what you've heard, that works I reckon, thank you.
Keep up the great work. Your conversations are incredibley thought provoking and deep. Thanks for sharing such personal ideas with us all. You're job is to ask questions and talk about these things.
I have no complaints I never sensed you were interrupting her. I have listened to many people interviewing Esther, and I love your depth and authenticity in this podcast. This is my second or third listen
If anything, you were mirroring her style. She often interrupts podcasters as well, and even raises her voice sometimes. She’s quite expressive and that’s her style.
These 2 people Esther Perel and Rich Roll are among my favourite people to listen to. I have been following Rich Roll for many, many years and i simply think he is my favourite podcaster on youtube and i respect him enormously and i have listened to all the podcasts Esther Perel has done and i totally love her and everything she does. When i saw they were together in this podcast i felt soo happy to see them together interacting. Such an interesting interview and a total pleasure to listen and watch. Thank you Rich one more time for being soooo good to convey the reality of being human expressing it soo well and thank you Esther for bringing soo much wisdom and brilliance to the table. You both together are a beautiful treat!
When I saw that Esther Perel is on Rich's podcast I got excited and started listening right away! I love Esther and ponder on the things I learned from listening to her on TH-cam a lot. I love her perspective on things. My husband and I have been married for 15 years. Thinking outside the box has been very helpful in my relationship. Peace from a subscriber in Ukraine.
Esther is wonderful and full of wisdom, as always. We could all listen to her for hours. But I also wanted to salute and thank Rich for opening up the way he did in the second half of the episode. It's not easy and it was beautiful to see. I also loved the way she called him out on his "narrative", she does it in the best, kindest, humorous way possible. Really wonderful episode, thank you both for sharing!
I love Ester! I’ve been following her for a little bit and I feel she is such a gift to everyone! There is always something you can gain from what she puts out to the world 😊
I agree also that focusing on just romantic relationships is far too limiting and many of us do not give enough attention or value to friendships which can be just as important for our wellbeing and happiness and there are plenty of couples who do not have other relationships/friendships outside of their partnership and it can be very insular and limited and closed off to new experiences and people
Great interview. Especially the second hour. From his responses to Ester's advice, I don't get the sense that Rich is truly motivated to move beyond the status quo in his relationship with his wife. He always has excuses to justify holding back. And that is risky, if not riskier than taking the needed leap.
The interviewer was long winded, boring, and self-absorbed. Instead of asking questions, he made long assertions as if he is an expert and didn’t let the actual expert speak so many times, I got irritated and turned it off.
In the English classroom when a friendship becomes a disruption to the teacher, they will do everything they can to separate the children as much as possible.
Maybe Rich has the same challenges with his wife as with Esther, when he interrupts and does not really listen or respect, which is possible to see when he tends to interrupt. He does not do it constantly, but if he gets a bit eager to tell his thoughts, instead of being present for the other one, with genuine respect, curiosity, and vulnerability. Perhaps it is also an American way, where the ego takes up a lot of space. Just thinking out loud.
Very valuable conversation and yes it is interesting that people can have sex with each other and yet not able to talk about it,what they want, what they desire, whay they don't want...etc probably alot of very unsatifaying sex going on out there !! sex lacking intimacy and yes that "binary between the salacious and puritanical"is exactly it,the acessiblity of porn etc but a total lack of psycho-emotional side of sexual education is totally lacking, its recipe for disaster
I would suggest that if you need to be aware of all of this ‘analysis’ then you are flogging a dead horse of a relationship.. the main beneficiaries of this advice are those selling it
She was not as good looking as Dr. Ruth Westheimer who at 4'7" tall well, er, uh, if I was that height and came up to a man's crotch, I would also be a sex therapist.
What is romance ? whats romantic to one is not for another...its more complex than that, shes talking about our deepest emotional needs ....it goes so much deeper than "whats romantic"...learning to love well is one of the hardest and greatest lessons in life whether romantic or otherwise

I've been listening/ watching Esther Perel from different podcasts for a while. She's my rock. Thank you both so much!

EASILY IN THE TOP 5 RICH ROLL EPISODES
So many years and Rich Roll hasn’t still learned to listen
Totally, he talks soo much and Interrupting perel
"When you're not in control, you're not safe." Dang, I paused on that one, too. Worthy of reflection.
Thx so much Rich Roll for having this gem of a person on the show! Thx for enriching my life w/ your show.
This is the best podcast with her that I've listened to (and the standards were high)
I agree 😊
Agreed! Another one (for me personally anyway) is her podcast with Peter Attia, think it was back in 2021.

WOW. Thanks Esther Perel and Rich Roll. This is so beautiful & powerful. You have enriched my Life and I am grateful.
59:52 Was holding up til this part 🥹 Such a beautiful yet tangible concept for a long-lasting relationship.
39:30: No, life within the tribe is much more harmonious than this.
Thank you for this AMAZING episode. And most importantly for time stamping the episode 😊 🙏
Yeah, need the timestamps
Amazing guest and terrific episode🫶
Rich so needed to hear the cold hard truth. “Your story is stale and self serving”
Me 2 😅

People don’t abandon the ones they love. They abandon the ones they use.
Did no one else feel that Esther wasn’t allowed to interject which would have made the conversation flow as almost all of her interviews do?
The interviewer was long winded, boring, and self-absorbed. Instead of asking questions, he made long assertions as if he is an expert and didn’t let the actual expert speak so many times, I got irritated and turned it off.
@@BettieAnneBlume No just the opposite.
What a wonderful conversation
Esther Perel is a badass!
Immediate like just because of of Esther!😍

Is it that much pressure?
When Esther catches a beat, she starts cooking with nuclear fusion. Rich get out of there 😂
"the truth" like if there is one
I can‘t have it with these clickbait titles.

10:30: No, the biology of love hasn’t changed the last few million years. One is strongly advised not to deviate from that biology.
Love is mostly self delusion.
