I have curly hair, I stopped brushing it over 20 years ago. Shampoo, conditioner, curly defying spray and serum, finger comb only and 10 minutes drying with diffuser attachment. So easy and quick, my mother didn’t know what to do with it when I was a child so I still have flashbacks to the pain of being brushed and ending up looking like poodle! 🐩😢
The whole soaking wet hair styling seems to be key. Honestly, I have curly fine hair and it's really hard for me to do the soaking wet styling, like in the shower wet. Stop brushing it, unless it's soaking wet with conditioner. Hope this all helps. This video is great for curly hairs.

My hair looks similar to yours, but I do have some 2C pieces in the sides and underneath, which I hate.
